Hello, people of Internet, today I want to tell you about one of my favourite films, The Princess and the Frog, a reimagining of the original fairy tale "The Frog Prince" by the Brothers Grimm (which actually exists within the universe of the film). This film returns to 2d animation, and is a very well crafted musical, reminding us that Disney, if it wants to, can make animated gems.
Hola, gente de Internet, hoy quiero hablarles de una de mis películas preferidas, La princesa y el Sapo una reimaginación del cuento original "El Príncipe Rana" de los hermanos Grimm (el cuál de hecho existe dentro del universo de la película). Este film vuelve a la animación en 2d, y es un musical muy bien trabajado, recordándonos que Disney si quiere, puede hacer joyas de la animación.
I love everything about the story, on the one hand we have a useless, materialistic prince who needs to be saved by a princess (the opposite of what is usual in fairy tales) on the other hand, the princess of limited time (Charlotte) who is spoiled and superficial (at least to the naked eye) and the real princess, Tiana, a hard-working and dreamy young woman. Naveen, a useless, immature, materialistic, classist and self-centred prince, is banished by his parents from his nation in order to do something important with his life and prove that he can own his fortune and responsibility (the kingdom of Maldonia), however, Naveen is more interested in marrying a rich commoner in order to have the money he wants without the responsibilities of a kingdom, however, he gets involved with the Dr Facilier to get the money without having to marry, which evidently goes wrong and he ends up as a toad.
Me encanta todo de la historia, por un lado tenemos a un príncipe inútil, materialista y que necesita ser salvado por una princesa (todo lo contrario a lo usual en los cuentos de hadas) por otro lado, la princesa de tiempo limitado (Charlotte) quien es mimada y superficial (al menos a simple vista) y la verdadera princesa, Tiana, una joven trabajadora y soñadora. Naveen, un príncipe inútil, inmaduro, materialista, clasista y egocéntrico, es desterrado por sus padres de su nación con el propósito de que haga algo importante con su vida y demuestre que puede ser poseedor de su fortuna y responsabilidad (el reino de Maldonia) sin embargo, Naveen está más interesado es desposar a una plebella rica para así tener el dinero que quiere sin las responsabilidades de un reino, no obstante, se deja envolver por el Dr Facilier para obtener el dinero sin tener que casarse, lo que evidentemente sale mal y termina convertido en sapo.
On the other hand, Tiana is a young girl who never stops working in order to raise money to have her own restaurant, a dream she shares with her father, who died during the first war. During her best friend's party where she hired her for her candy table, Tiana is denied the purchase of the restaurant because someone offered more than her, desperate tries to make a wish to the star of the dawn although she does not believe in that, it is then when she meets a toad who turns out to be Naveen, who, believing that she is an attentive princess, asks her to kiss him as in the fairy tale in order to become a prince in exchange for him paying for Tiana's restaurant (at least what she needs to complete the amount asked for), she accepts but as she is not a princess, she ends up becoming a toad as well. From there they must set out on a journey across the Bayou to try to become human again.
Por otro lado, Tiana es una joven que no deja de trabajar para poder juntar dinero y tener su propio restaurante, el sueño que comparte con su padre, el cual murió durante la primera guerra. Durante la fiesta de su mejor amiga donde esta la contrató para su mesa de dulces, a Tiana le niegan la compra del restaurante porque alguien ofreció más que ella, desesperada intenta pedir un deseo a la estrella del amanecer aunque no cree en eso, es entonces cuando se encuentra con un sapo que resulta ser Naveen, que creyendo que ella es una atentica princesa, le pide que lo bese como en el cuento para poder transformarse en príncipe a cambio de que él pagará el restaurante de Tiana (al menos lo que necesita para completar la cantidad que le piden) ella acepta pero al no ser princesa, ella termina convertida en sapo también. A partir de ahí deben iniciar un viaje a través del Bayou para intentar volver a ser humanos.
The characters are tremendously memorable. My favourites are Charlotte and Dr. Facilier. Charlotte, despite being a bit superficial and spoiled, is not a bad person at all, she is humble and treats her best friend, Tiana, who is working class, very nicely. Charlotte's father is not prejudiced about this either and since they were both children, he let them play peacefully. Charlotte cares for Tiana and is capable of making sacrifices for her, resulting in a very funny, amusing and noble character.
Los personajes son tremendamente recordables. Mis preferidos son Charlotte y el Dr. Facilier. Charlotte, pese a ser un poco superficial y muy mimada, no es para nada mala persona, es humilde y trata muy lindo a su mejor amiga, Tiana, la cual es de clase trabajadora, el padre de Charlotte tampoco tiene prejuicios con esto y desde que ambas eran niñas, las dejó jugar tranquilamente. Charlotte se preocupa por Tiana y es capaz de hacer sacrificios por ella, resultando en un personaje muy divertido, gracioso y además muy noble.
Dr. Facilier (whose name is derived from French and means easy because he offers things with ease) is one of Disney's best villains (and my second favourite after Frollo) is a cunning man who offers dark magic "voudou" jobs that consist of offering people what they want with ease in exchange for money, however the jobs turn out badly in some ways, not because Dr. Facilier is bad at magic, but because he scams people.
El Dr. Facilier (cuyo nombre es derivado del francés y significa fácil, dado a que ofrece cosas con facilidad) es uno de los mejores villanos de Disney (y mi segundo preferido después de Frollo) es un hombre astuto que ofrece trabajos de magia oscura voudou, que consisten en ofrecerle a la gente lo que quiere con facilidad a cambio de dinero, sin embargo los trabajos resultan mal de alguna manera, no porque el Dr. Facilier sea malo con la magia, sino porque estafa a la gente.
He is ambitious, selfish and has no limits. He needs to pay the debt he owes to the beings from beyond, so his plan is to use a fake Naveen to marry Charlotte in order to kill Charlotte's father and possess the LaBouff fortune, by gaining power, Dr. Facilier will give the souls of all of New Orleans to these beings, and thus pay off his debt. One of the things I like most in the film is its soundtrack and I must say that the best piece in the film is "Influence in the afterlife" performed by this character.
Es ambicioso, egoísta y no tiene límites. Necesita pagar la deuda que tiene con los seres del más allá, así que su plan consiste en usar a un falso Naveen para que se case con Charlotte con el objetivo de acabar con el padre de esta y poseer la fortuna de los LaBouff, al obtener poder, el Dr. Facilier les dará las almas de toda Nueva Orleans a estos seres, y así saldar su deuda. Una de las cosas que más me gusta en la película es su soundtrack y debo decir que la mejor pieza en la película es "Influencia en el más allá" interpretada por este personaje.
It's not just the cinematography and staging, the music is a spectacle, the voice of the interpreter in both languages is great, but the lyrics of the song and the scene that takes place is amazing. It shows perfectly the way in which charlatans wrap people up with their lip service, however, this "charlatan" is much more dangerous as he not only swindles you out of money, but he can severely harm you with his magic, the final phrase of the beings from beyond the grave expresses it perfectly "You got what you wanted, you lost the rest".
No se trata nada más de la fotografía y la ´puesta en escena, la música es un espectáculo, la voz del interprete en ambos idiomas es buenísima, pero la letra de la canción y la escena que transcurre es asombrosa. Muestra perfectamente la forma en la que los charlatanes envuelven a la gente con su labia, sin embargo, este ""charlatan" es mucho más peligroso, ya que no solo estafa con dinero, sino que puede perjudicarte severamente con su magia, la frase final de los seres del más allá lo expresa perfectamente "tendrás lo que quieres, perderás lo demás"
The colour palette changes drastically once Naveen and his butler accept the deal with Dr. Facilier, throughout the scene we see the presence of red (the colour of the voudou) and when the palette changes we see the presence of blue and gold (other secondary colours of religion) as well as a lot of purple and green (which contrast in the polychromatic disc) but which in cinema go hand in hand, at least in the context of this scene as purple signifies magic or mysticism and green, evil.
La paleta de colores cambia drásticamente una vez que Naveen y su mayordomo aceptan el trato con el Dr. Facilier, durante toda la escena vemos presencia del rojo (el color del voudou) y cuando cambia la paleta vemos presencia de azul y dorado (otros colores secundarios de la religión) además de mucho protagonismo de morado y verde (los cuales hacen contraste en el disco policromático) pero que en cine van de la mano, al menos en el contexto de esta escena ya que el morado significa magia o misticismo y el verde, maldad.
Talking about the cinematography, I have to say that the introductory song is very good, it is very short but it encompasses all the characters as well as showing their personalities, the lyrics of the song also express the life of New Orleans and the music is a delight.
Hablando de la fotografía, tengo que decir que la canción introductoria es muy buena, dura muy poco pero engloba a todos los personajes, además de mostrar sus personalidades, la letra de la canción también expresa la vida de Nueva Orleans y la música es un deleite.
It has beautiful scenes such as the waltz sung by Ray with a beautiful display of lights and colours, which brings me to the soundtrack, which is very good. As expected, it is made up of jazz, blues, soul and gospel songs, all derived from the Louisiana area, New Orleans itself.
Tiene escenas preciosas como las del vals que canta Ray con un despliegue de luces y colores muy bonitos, lo que me lleva a hablar del soundtrack que es buenísimo. Como era de esperar, está compuesto por canciones de jazz, blues, soul y gospel, todos derivados de la zona de Louisiana, propiamente de Nueva Orleans.
My favorite (besides Dr. Facilier's song) is Never Knew I Needed, a promotional song performed by Ne-yo, who has a beautiful voice (like every black boy 😍) The song is also with Cassandra Steen (who I don't know who is he but he also sings beautifully) (I love black voices)
Mi preferida (además de la canción del Dr Facilier) es Never Knew I Needed, canción promocional interpretada por Ne-yo, el cuál tiene una voz preciosa (como todo chico negro 😍) La canción también está feat Cassandra Steen (quien no sé quien es pero también canta hermoso) (amo las voces de los negros)
In short, it is a beautiful film, whose features are perfectly crafted and whose story shows us values such as hard work, nobility, valuing what we have and getting what we want without forgetting what really matters. For me it is a 10 out of 10.
En resumen, es una película hermosa, cuyas características están perfectamente trabajadas y cuya historia nos muestra valores como el trabajo duro, la nobleza, valorar lo que tenemos y conseguir lo que queremos sin olvidar lo que realmente importa. Para mi es un 10 de 10.
