The new Disney+ and Star+ series premiered last Tuesday, February 27th and the hype among fans has flooded the press and networks, the publicity work for its promotion has been shocking for me to the point of awakening a lot of hype to see it, and finally I witnessed its first two episodes and I couldn't contain myself in writing about it mainly to invite you to see it and why you should do it, without giving any spoilers.

La nueva serie de Disney+ y Star+ se ha estrenado el pasado martes 27 de febrero y los elogios previos y el hype entre los fan ha inundado la prensa y redes, el trabajo publicitario para su promoción a sido impactante para mi al grado de despertar mucho hype por verla, y finalmente fui testigo de sus dos primeros episodios y no pude contenerme en escribir al respecto principalmente para invitarles a que la vean y porque razones deben hacerlo, sin dar algun spoiler.
I must clarify for the most orthodox film critics that this publication isn't a review, I can't establish a positive or negative criticism until I see it in full, I intend to talk about the context of the series, why it promises to be so good and why it is being compared before its premiere with blockbusters like Games of Throne.

Shōgun didn't invent the wheel, like many good movies and series it is based on a book with the same title, published in 1974 by James Clavell, a book that I lament not having known before, because in the past I haven't hidden my fascination for the Japanese culture between the tenth and seventeenth centuries where it struggled to establish itself as a nation trying to unify among all its lords.

The main attraction for me are the stories of samurai, I really like what they represent as warriors, and the book and Shōgun series don't romanticize this genre at all, on the contrary, they build their characters based on the reality of what they were during these centuries, proud warriors, who could have deep contempt for the lower classes, foreigners and especially with women, but their codes of ethics in defense of their lands and honorable combat if they were admirable, something contradictory I know.
El principal atractivo para mi son las historias de samurais, me gusta mucho lo que representan como guerreros, y el libro y serie Shōgun no romantizan en lo absoluto a este genero, todo lo contrario, construyen sus personajes basados en la realidad de lo que fueron durante estos siglos, guerreros orgullosos, que podían tener profundo desprecio por las clases inferiores, los extranjeros y en especial con las mujeres, pero sus códigos de ética en defensa de sus tierras y el combate honorable si eran admirables, algo contradictorio lo se.
The other great attraction of this series is that its history tells the preamble of the Tokugawa era, the shogunate that began in the early eleventh century and lasted more than 250 years isolating Japan. This era is the most studied and represented in books, series and movies for its great warriors who were able to defeat any foreigner who wanted to invade and overthrow them from power, 250 years of unbeatable warriors is no small thing.
EL otro gran atractivo que esta serie tiene, es que su historia cuenta el preámbulo de la era Tokugawa, el shogunato que comenzó a principios del siglo XI y que duró mas de 250 años aislando a Japon. Esta era es la mas estudiada y representada en libros, series y películas por sus grandes guerreros que fueron capaces de vencer a cuanto extranjero quiso invadirles y derrocarlos del poder, 250 años de guerreros imbatibles no es poca cosa.
Now perhaps you can understand why this story is promising, it doesn't exalt the beauties of Japanese culture at all, it is a story of ambition, its characters are machiavellian and calculating, especially its protagonist Lord Yoshii Toranaga played majestically by Hiroyuki Sanada who always plays perfectly everything related to Japan as Ôishi in 47 Ronin, the superb Ujio in The Last Samurai, or the loyalty of Shimazu Koji in John Wick: Chapter 4, great performances that set a precedent of excellence and become one more reason not to miss this series.
Ahora quizás puedan entender porque esta historia promete, para nada enaltece las bellezas de la cultura japonesa, se trata de una historia de ambición, sus personajes son maquiavélicos y calculadores, en especial su protagonista Lord Yoshii Toranaga interpretado majestuosamente por Hiroyuki Sanada que siempre desempeña perfectamente todo lo relacionado a Japón como Ôishi en 47 Ronin, el soberbio Ujio en The Last Samurai, o la lealtad de Shimazu Koji en John Wick: Chapter 4, grandes interpretaciones que marcan un antecedente de excelencia y se convierten en una razón mas para no perderse esta serie.
Just to give you a brief overview of what the story is about, we are in the time of the feudal lords who rule Japan after the death of his regent, the daimio is disputing who will be the next ruler and Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) is cornered by his peers in the city of Osaka. Enter John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis), a skilled English sailor who arrives in Japan with the purpose of eradicating the Portuguese and Spanish, his religious and warlike rivals, who have been trading in Japan for a long time.
Solo para darles un pequeño abreboca sobre de que va la historia, estamos en la época de los señores feudales que gobiernan Japón tras la muerte de su regente, el daimio se esta disputando quien sera el proximo gobernante y Lord Yoshii Toranaga (Hiroyuki Sanada) está acorralado por sus pares en la ciudad de Osaka. Entra en escena John Blackthorne (Cosmo Jarvis) un marino ingles muy habil que llega a Japón con el propósito de erradicar a los portugueses y españoles, sus rivales religiosos y bélicos, que ya desde hace mucho tiempo comercian en Japón.
John is initially treated as the worst scum until Toragana sees his potential as a tool to defeat his enemies, through his navigational and combat skills, along with the resources he can provide. Both despise the Christian religion brought by the Jesuits that gives them a common ground and unites them in combat, in order to benefit together and eradicate a mutual enemy.
John en un principio es tratado como la peor escoria hasta que Toragana logra ver su potencial como herramienta para vencer a sus enemigos, a través de sus habilidades de navegación y combate, junto a los recursos que puede proveer. Ambos desprecian la religion cristiana traida por lo jesuitas eso les da un punto en comun y les une en combate, afin de beneficiarse en conjunto y erradicar a un enemigo mutuo.
The series has a strong resemblance to The Last Samurai, but its creators have promised that it will be a faithful adaptation to the book that never places the character of John the foreigner as a central part, rather it is the development of a set of stories, very similar to those we saw develop in Game of Throne, that is why it has been compared to this series, each character has its protagonist and a very rich story with which to feel attracted and have a favorite.
La serie tiene un gran parecido con The Last Samurai, pero sus creadores han prometido que será una fiel adaptación al libro que nunca coloca el personaje de John el extranjero como parte central, mas bien es el desarrollo de un conjunto de historias, muy parecidas a las que vimos desarrollar en Game of Throne, por eso ha sido comparada con esta serie, cada personaje tiene su protagonismo y una historia muy rica con la cual sentirnos atraídos y tener un favorito.
La verdad es que todas las historias ubicadas en Japón siempre llaman mí atención y tomando en cuenta lo bien que escribes sobre ella le daré una oportunidad, realmente me parece muy interesante. ¡Excelente reseña!

Cuando termine la serie es probable que haga aun post. Aunque con dos episodios ya es para mi una de las mejores del año.
