[ ESPAÑOL ] Esta definitivamente no es la típica película de navidad. Pero esta es una ocasión especial ya que es mi primera entrada para el concurso navideño de Movies & TV Shows Community. Asi que quería comenzar con una película fuera de serie que considero un tesoro escondido, dado que no veo a nadie hablando de esta peli. Aqui veremos a Mel Gibson y a Walton Goggins protagonizando una comedia negra filmada estilo Western que los dejara al borde del asiento.
"The Fatman" nos narra la historia de cómo un niño que no recibió lo que quería para navidad contrata a un asesino a sueldo muy eficiente para que encuentre y termine con la vida de Santa, mientras que el gobierno de los estados unidos hace un trato con él y sus duendes para que fabriquen armamento para las fuerzas militares del país.
Primero que nada, esta peli es un estudio de personajes. Poco a poco iremos conociendo al asesino a sueldo. Sus costumbres, sus hábitos y hobbies, y esto nos permite comprender el porqué aceptó este trabajo y que lo motiva a seguir, a pesar de lo difícil que es para el llevarlo a cabo. También veremos cómo es la vida de un Santa muy rudo, que no es tan fácil como algunos podrían pensar dado que las nuevas generaciones de niños cada vez se comportan peor y esto trae problemas para el negocio.
Debo decir que amo ambos personajes. Creo que el cast estuvo muy bien seleccionado y que ambos actores nos dieron actuaciones memorables. Walton Goggins nos da un personaje memorable lleno de excentricidades como que habla chino y que ama comerse algo así como un pato asado completo cuando comienza un trabajo. O que santa hace boxeo y hace practicas de disparo de forma recurrente. Los hermanos Nelms se tomaron su tiempo para escribir personajes muy completos sobre los que uno debe aprender y eventualmente terminaras amándolos. La atención al detalle en esta peli es un punto fuerte! Disfruto mucho de esto cada vez que lo veo, creo que es parte importante de lo que considero una buena película.
La dirección en esta peli está cuidada al detalle. La cámara se mueve con precisión y los diálogos están muy bien escritos. Creo que no se pierde ninguna palabra da ningún personaje y hablando de líneas, una de mis frases favoritas la dice Goggins cuando se molesta con el agente de viajes que le tranca cuando Goggins le pregunta donde vive Santa Claus y este grita al aire "porque tenias que colgar el teléfono". O quizá se el discurso en el que Gibson llora mientras le habla a los duendes sobre los cambio que se llevaran a cabo en el taller de juguetes para estas navidades... No los sé, igual me parto de la risa y se me encoje el corazón respectivamente cada vez que veo estas escenas.
La tensión en la peli va aumentando lentamente de manera que no quieres soltar hasta que ya es demasiado tarde y viste la hora y media de largometraje. Tiene buena comedia, buena acción, buen suspenso y el aire de Western se siente desde el principio, pero está escondido tras un aura de navidad que usualmente no está ahí en este tipo de historias, pero que en este caso le da un toque de unicidad que hace memorable a esta entrega y de seguro les dará algo en que pensar una vez que la película acabe.

[ ENGLISH ] This is definitely not your typical Christmas movie. But this is a special occasion as it is my first entry for the Movies & TV Shows Community Christmas Contest. So I wanted to start off with an out-of-the-ordinary movie that I consider to be a hidden treasure, since I don't see anyone talking about this movie. Here we will see Mel Gibson and Walton Goggins starring in a Western-style filmed black comedy that will leave them on the edge of their seats.
"The Fatman" tells the story of how a boy who did not get what he wanted for Christmas hires a very efficient hitman to find and end Santa's life, while the United States government makes a deal with him and his goblins to make weapons for the country's military forces.
First of all, this movie is a character study. Little by little we will get to know the hit man. His customs, habits and hobbies, and this allows us to understand why he accepted this job and what motivates him to continue, despite how difficult it is for him to carry it out. We will also see what the life of a very tough Santa is like, which is not as easy as some might think given that the new generations of children behave worse and worse and this brings problems for the business.
I must say that I love both characters. I think the cast was very well selected and that both actors gave us memorable performances. Walton Goggins gives us a memorable character full of eccentricities like he speaks Chinese and loves to eat something like a whole roast duck when he starts a job. Or that Santa does boxing and does shooting practice on a recurring basis. The Nelms brothers took the time to write very well-rounded characters that one must learn about and you will eventually end up loving them. The attention to detail in this movie is a strong point! I really enjoy this every time I watch it, I think it's an important part of what I consider to be a good movie.
The direction in this movie is taken care of in detail. The camera moves with precision and the dialogue is very well written. I think that no word is lost from any character and speaking of lines, one of my favorite phrases is said by Goggins when he gets upset with the travel agent who blocks him when Goggins asks him where Santa Claus lives and he yells at the air "because you had to hang up the phone. " Or maybe I know the speech in which Gibson cries while talking to the elves about the changes that will take place in the toy workshop for this Christmas ... I don't know, I may just break out laughing and shrink heart respectively every time I see these scenes.
The tension in the movie builds slowly so you don't want to let go until it's too late and you've seen an hour and a half of the feature film. It has good comedy, good action, good suspense and the Western air is felt from the beginning, but it is hidden behind a Christmas aura that is not usually there in these types of stories, but in this case it gives it a touch of uniqueness. that makes this movie memorable and is sure to give you something to think about once the movie is over.
