Twister is a movie about the first mother nature that I watched, I watched it in 1998, two years after it was released on May 10, 1996. And at that time I really liked this movie and became one of the very memorable ones. For this reason, I also tried to review Twister for an entry in Theme of the week: "Mother Nature" in League of Movies Third Edition, Week 02. You can see the following post if you want to join the contest and read the rules.

Twister is an Action, Adventure, and Drama movie genre directed by Jan de Bont. I don't really know about this director, but if I'm not mistaken, I also watched the film Speed of his work, and indeed became one of the directors to be reckoned at that time on the Hollywood Cinema.

Starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, and Jami Gertz. Twister is able to become the number 2 best movie in the United States after The Independent Day, this movie is known to spend a budget of approximately 92 million dollars and earned 494 million dollars after release around the world. And that's a fair price this movie was nominated for 2 Oscars and 10 winnings and 13 nominations in various movie awards.

Twister tells about the storm hunt team trying to perfect the data collection instruments. The device was designed to be released into tornado funnels, and interestingly they competed with other teams who had better government-funded equipment with similar devices during a tornado in Oklahoma.

Jo (Helen Hunt), a meteorologist, reunited with her husband, Bill "The Extreme" Harding (Bill Paxton), a former weather and storm researcher who has since become a weather reporter.

Bill tried to chase his wife into signing his divorce papers so he could marry his new lover, Melissa. But nature has other plans. During their meeting, there was actually a storm and made them have to re-prepare for what they created when they were husband and wife. Like the blessing behind the disaster, their relationship that was tenuous even at least melted back.Synopsis

I like this movie, the reason is that in a disaster genre movies, there is usually another story that can be listened to. The story of love, family love, and romance. But certainly, there is usually a sacrifice. Any disaster movie usually uses the formula as I mentioned above. But I could say, Twister did not adopt all the recipes above.

Actually, I watched this film accidentally because at that time I was looking for another work from Jan De Bont, thanks to his first made by the phenomenal Speed. So I got this movie. Twister has a very good picture taking, maybe because Jan De Bont is a photographer manager, of course, he is quite proficient in his field.

Starring the actor Helen Hunt, who was not yet well-known in Hollywood except for her role in the series Mad About You, and Bill Paxton, who was also not as well-known as in the film Speed [Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock] by Jan De Bont before.

But who would have guessed Philip Seymour Hoffman who here only gets a small role? and it is not unexpected that he has become a character actor to be reckoned now.

In my opinion, the main character in this movie is Twisters of all types of sizes. With the series of cast mentioned earlier, this film managed to become the number two best-selling film at that time in the US after Independence Day which of course was very difficult to match at that time.

Twister invites the audience to witness the great disaster, Tornado. Although there are other stories in this film, Twister is very complete for a disaster-themed film that makes you wait for a tornado to come and sweep some land.

Despite being ranked second best-selling in America that year, it was enough for De Bont to increasingly establish his name on the Hollywood scene as a top-notch director, but unfortunately, his name is now fading, even though he was the coolest director of his time. I have the trailer below to remember some of our Memoriam about Twister, check it out!
