¡Hola amigos! El otro día estaba en Netflix revisando qué podía ver que sea corto y me tope con un documental que dura solo 40 minutos y nos habla de un refugio en la India que se dedica a la conservación y preservación de elefantes. Se llama: Nuestro bebé elefante.
El título es bastante emotivo, si que saben cómo atraparme eh. Seguro que estás cosas las hacen para mí jajaja.
Hello friends! The other day I was on Netflix checking what I could watch that is short and I stumbled upon a documentary that is only 40 minutes long and tells us about a refuge in India that is dedicated to the conservation and preservation of elephants. It's called: The Elephant Whisperers.
The title is quite touching, they sure know how to get me eh. I'm sure they make these things for me hahaha.

El documental está enfocado en una pareja, Bomman y Bellie, que crían a una cría de elefante llamada Raghu.
Raghu llegó a sus vidas porque en verano, cuando las temperaturas son elevadas, se producen muchos incendios y hay sequía, entonces los elefantes tienen que movilizarse y recorrer varias distancias para encontrar otro lugar que les provea alimentos y agua.
En su camino la mamá de Raghu y él llegaron hasta una ciudad. A ella la encontraron muerta, dicen que se electrocutó con algo y su pequeña cría estaba muerta de sed, hambre y herida porque unos perros la atacaron. La gente de la ciudad lo alimentó e hizo lo que pudo, pero al ver qué no mejoraba contactaron con este santuario y lo vinieron a buscar.
The documentary focuses on a couple, Bomman and Bellie, who raise a baby elephant named Raghu.
Raghu came into their lives because in summer, when temperatures are high, there are many fires and drought, then the elephants have to move and travel several distances to find another place to provide them with food and water.
On their way, he and Raghu's mother came to a town. She was found dead, they say she was electrocuted by something and her little calf was dead of thirst, hunger and wounded because some dogs attacked it. The people of the city fed him and did what they could, but when they saw that he was not getting better, they contacted this sanctuary and came to look for him.

Bomman, el hombre que lo recibe, se dedica al cuidado y rescate de los elefantes. Es un trabajo que paso de generación en generación, lo hizo su abuelo y su padre, ahora es su turno. Sin embargo, a raíz de un accidente que tuvo ya no puede trabajar con elefantes adultos, así que quedó al cuidado de las crías. Con respecto a Bellie, ella es la primera mujer en criar un elefante. En el documental dejan en claro que las mujeres, hasta ella, no podían cumplir esta tarea. Pero Raghu necesitaba toda la ayuda posible porque estaba muy mal herido y había altas probabilidades de que no sobreviviera. Y Bellie recientemente pasó por una pérdida muy grande y devastadora que hizo que le entregara todo de sí a este elefante huérfano para que saliera adelante.
Así que Bomman y Bellie empezaron a cuidar de Raghu con esmero, lo trataban y querían como un hijo. Además era uno muy especial, lograron conectar enseguida y él se aferró a ellos para seguir viviendo. Formaron una unión muy sólida.
Bomman, the man who receives him, is dedicated to the care and rescue of elephants. It is a job that has been passed down from generation to generation, his grandfather and father did it, now it is his turn. However, due to an accident he had, he can no longer work with adult elephants, so he is left to take care of the calves. As for Bellie, she is the first woman to raise an elephant. In the documentary they make it clear that women, until her, could not fulfill this task. But Raghu needed all the help he could get because he was badly injured and there was a high chance that he would not survive. And Bellie recently went through a very big and devastating loss that made her give her all to this orphaned elephant so that he would survive.
So Bomman and Bellie began to take care of Raghu with care, they treated him and loved him like a son. He was also a very special one, they were able to connect right away and he clung to them to keep on living. They formed a very strong bond.
A partir de que mejoró se empezó a integrar con otros elefantes porque hay cosas que deben aprender de sus pares. Me impresionó lo inteligentes y empáticos que pueden llegar a ser. En una ocasión estaba con una elefanta más grande que le estaba enseñando a arrancar hierbas para comer y Raghu agarró una que tenía espinas, se le quedó clavada una en la boca y la elefanta fue enseguida con su trompa a sacarla, quedé conmovida por este gesto.
Once he got better, he started to integrate with other elephants because there are things they need to learn from their peers. I was impressed by how intelligent and empathetic they can be. On one occasion I was with a larger elephant who was teaching her how to pull herbs to eat and Raghu grabbed one that had thorns, one got stuck in her mouth and the elephant immediately went with her trunk to pull it out, I was touched by this gesture.
También Billie nos cuenta que cuando está triste y llora, Raghu se le acerca y le limpia las lágrimas con su trompita. Es que lo amo. Perdón si les doy muchos datos, es que no puedo creer los seres maravillosos que son. Trataré de no revelarles mucho más. Pero si les digo que vale la pena mirar este documental, aparte es muy corto, dura menos que un capítulo de una serie convencional.
Billie also tells us that when he is sad and cries, Raghu comes to him and wipes his tears with his little trunk. I just love him. I'm sorry if I give you too many facts, I just can't believe what wonderful beings they are. I will try not to reveal too much more. But I will tell you that this documentary is worth watching, besides it is very short, it lasts less than an episode of a conventional series.
Me gustó que este par no solo sanó su alma con estos elefantes, sino que se encontraron el uno al otro y formaron una conexión familiar entre ellos dos. Estoy hablando de Bomman y Bellie. Adoré verlos trabajar en equipo. Al principio pensé que eran marido y mujer, me sorprendí al saber que no, pero de todos modos en algo andaban jajajaja.
I liked that this pair not only healed their souls with these elephants, but that they found each other and formed a family connection between the two of them. I'm talking about Bomman and Bellie. I loved watching them work as a team. At first I thought they were husband and wife, I was surprised to find out they weren't, but they were up to something anyway hahahaha.
Después de Raghu llegó otra pequeña huérfana de 5 meses llamada Ammu. Esto trae un poco de discordia porque Raghu se pone celoso pero no le dura mucho.
After Raghu came another little 5 month old orphan named Ammu. This brings a bit of discord because Raghu gets jealous but it doesn't last long.
Algo que sabía, pero que igualmente fue bueno ver, es que en la India estos animales son una especie de divinidad porque ellos creen en el dios Ganesha, una entidad con cuerpo de hombre y cabeza de elefante. Ellos nos explican que ver a un elefante es como ver al Dios. También podemos ver cómo estos elefantes participan de las ceremonias religiosas que hacen, les pintan la cara con unas rayas de colores y les ponen coronas de flores.
Something I knew, but it was still good to see, is that in India these animals are a kind of divinity because they believe in the god Ganesha, an entity with the body of a man and the head of an elephant. They explain that seeing an elephant is like seeing the god. We can also see how these elephants participate in the religious ceremonies they perform, they paint their faces with colored stripes and put crowns of flowers on them.
Hacia el final del documental nos dan un llamado de atención, de que la situación de estos animales empeora por culpa de los humanos y que debemos ayudar como podamos porque estos que nos muestran son una pequeña parte de los que logran salvarse. Otros no corren con la misma suerte. También hay una escena muy linda con unos niños bañando un elefante adulto y dicen que son el futuro.
Towards the end of the documentary we are given a warning that the situation of these animals is worsening because of humans and that we must help as we can because these animals are a small part of those who manage to save themselves. Others are not as lucky. There is also a very nice scene with some children bathing an adult elephant and they say that they are the future.
En definitiva, me gustó mucho este documental, me pareció entretenido, emotivo (por supuesto que sí) e interesante. Está más que recomendado por mi parte. Está bueno ver algo diferente cada tanto, ¿no lo creen?
Puede parecer que revele mucho de la historia pero hay cosas que las omití para que puedan apreciarlas por ustedes mismos si se interesan por verlo. De todos modos creo que este tipo de documentales hay que sentirlos, no solo mirarlos.

All in all, I really enjoyed this documentary, I found it entertaining, emotional (of course I did) and interesting. It is more than recommended by me. It's nice to see something different every now and then, don't you think?
It may seem to reveal a lot of the story but there are some things I left out so you can appreciate them for yourselves if you are interested in watching it. Anyway, I think this kind of documentaries should be felt, not just watched.

Mi pregunta es la siguiente, es basada en la vida real? Si es así sería bueno buscar más información, a simple vista se ve una historia conmovedora.
Es un documental real, las personas filmadas no son actores. También hay filmaciones caseras de la gente de la ciudad cuando encontró al pequeño elefante antes de que terminara en el santuario. Este refugio también existe hace muchos años (ahora no recuerdo el nombre). Gracias por dejar tu comentario. Un saludo.
