Have you ever been bullied in your life? Or are you treated like dirt by others because they don't respect you? Well, you will love this movie haha. I remember that's what I thought when I saw this movie that besides funny is quite bizarre, it's called the art of self defense and tells the story of a boy that nobody pays attention to him and even a group of people beat him up, but he learns karate to be a man.
I remember in high school or at school I was like Casey, a weak kid that everyone looked down on and made fun of, weapons on several occasions I got hit just by mistake, but I never got an apology. So when I was about 14 years old I wanted to prove I was a man by challenging the tallest boy in the class to a fight, obviously that didn't go well as I ended up on the ground and with a huge bruise on my face, clearly picking fights wasn't my thing. After that moment I never looked for more fights and I focused on making them respect me respecting others and it worked for me, I mean I defended myself without giving a blow.

Recuerdo que eso fue lo que pensé cuando vi esta película que además de graciosa es bastante bizarra, se llama el arte de la autodefensa y cuenta la historia de un chico que nadie le presta atención e incluso un grupo de personas lo golpean, pero que aprende karate para ser un hombre.
Recuerdo que en el liceo o en la escuela yo era como Casey, un chico débil al que todos despreciaban y burlaban, armas en varias ocasiones me golpearon solo por error, pero nunca recibí unas disculpas. Así que cuando tenía unos 14 años quise probar que era todo un hombre al retar al muchacho más alto de la clase a una pelea, obviamente eso no salió nada bien ya que terminé en el suelo y con un enorme morado en la cara, claramente lo de buscar pelea no era lo mío. Después de ese momento nunca busque más peleas y me centre en hacer que me respetaran respetando a los demás y me funciono, es decir me defendí sin dar un golpe.
But Casey (Jesse Eisenberg) had to make himself respected using other more lethal means. Como Casey no quiere sufrir esto de nuevo, cuando se recupera va a la tienda de arma a comprar una pistola para defenderse cuando sea necesario, Pero el vendedor le dice que debe esperar para obtenerla ya que hay ciertos papeles y reglamentos que deben cumplirse. Así que Casey decepcionado sale a la calle cuando de repente llega hasta un dojo de Karate y ve una clase gratuita de karate donde le enseñan algunas técnicas de autodefensa, es allí donde piensa que el karate es lo mejor y decide inscribirse, pero poco a poco ira descubriendo secretos del sensey que lo decepcionaran y terminara de una manera bizarra. Normalmente vivimos en una sociedad donde los más fuertes creen que tienen el derecho de dañar a los más débiles, pero esta película demuestra que no siempre es así, ya que Casey al final logra vengarse de todos los que le hicieron mal, y todo Pao cuando él se valoró a sí mismo y se dio el lugar que merecía tener, ya que nadie lo respetaba o lo tomaba en cuenta, pero con una transformación adecuada logro lo que siempre había querido.
It is interesting that, in the process of Casey's transformation, the sensey mentioned to him that he should leave his feminine tastes, since Casey liked French and listening to relaxing music, but the sensey recommended him to listen to metal and change French for German which would give him the necessary attitude to be respected as he should be, and in the film we can see how this process of transformation of Casey was effective. Of course in my case I never studied French nor did I have to change my tastes so that others would respect me, I simply changed my mentality and gave myself the importance I had as a person, and it worked very well for me. Obviously this movie is a mockery of the society that always applies the law of the strongest as an excuse to hurt others, but you can always apply the saying it backfired, as Casey applies different methods to buy revenge on all those who did him wrong, which is quite realistic and very adapted to what happens today.
Es interesante que, en el proceso de transformación de Casey, el cense le menciono que debía dejar sus gustos femeninos, ya que Casey le gustaba el francés y escuchar música relajante, pero el sensey le recomendó escuchar metal y cambiar el francés por el alemán que le daría la actitud necesaria para darse a respetar como debía ser, y en la película podemos ver como ese proceso de transformación de Casey fue efectivo. Claro en mi caso yo nunca estudie francés ni tuve que cambiar mis gustos para que los demás me respetaran, simplemente cambie mi mentalidad y me di la importancia que tenía como persona, y funciono muy bien para mí. Obviamente esta película es una burla a la sociedad que aplica siempre la ley del más fuerte como excusa para hacerle daño a otros, pero siempre se puede aplicar el dicho le salió el tiro por la culata, ya que Casey aplica métodos distintos para comprar venganza de todos los que le hicieron mal, lo cual y bastante realista y muy adaptado con lo que si pasa hoy día.

Of course in this movie he stands out for his incredible way of playing a loser, but he does it so well that it is very believable, especially in the scene where he cries because he can't defend himself from a man who damages his car door.
Otra cosa que me gustaría hablar es la propia actuación de Jesse Eisenberg, él ha hecho distintos papeles de entre los que más destaca es como ilusionista en Now You Se Me, tarado en Zombieland, Empresario en The Social Network o como villano en Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. Pero su personalidad al haber películas es única, por ejemplo, recuerdo en Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice cuando interpretó a Lex Luthor, un villano algo Psicótico que, aunque se legaba un poco de lo que es el villano él le dio un toque personal que quedo increíble e incluso gano un premio por eso. Claro en esta película destaca es su increíble manera de interpretar a un perdedor, pero lo hace tan bien que es algo muy creíble, sobre todo en la escena que llora porque no puede defenderse de un hombre que le daña la puerta del auto.
So this is an enjoyable movie, as I mentioned before with a bizarre but satisfying ending, and it also has the iconic performance of Jesse Eisenberg, so I recommend it if you want to enjoy a good time of laughter and black and bizarre humor. Esta es muy buena película; la historia es impresionante es tan ligada a la época de films de acción de los 80', pero a la vez tiene temas que tienen mas resonancia en esta época actual.
El humor de esta historia si que es oscuro y eso me gustó porque es perfecto para todo lo alocado que se convierte el final del segundo acto junto con el final; siempre he pensado que es una lastima que este film no tenga mas reconocimiento.
