We all know that in the instances where there are ways of exercising justice there will always be some corruption.
In the case of Mayor Of Kingstown there are no exceptions, it is a story where they want to illustrate injustice and abuse of power in its intense forms.
Although I don't empathize much with action series and this one is a crime cop series, I didn't feel that the action was the highlight of the best scenes, in fact I felt that it was trying to get closer to the drama genre because there are specific things that feel almost like a documentary.
The story of the series is about Mike, a character who for some reason becomes the Mayor of the town and has to keep the peace between the criminal gangs and the prison, it's weird because there are situations that have to go directly through the jail before they have an impact on the street and even though Mike is not the warden he has a power to exercise where he always seeks tranquility in the face of social, personal and other uneasiness problems, but he doesn't enjoy his job even though he wants to do good, he knows that by getting his hands dirty he will never be completely calm.
The best thing about this series is that it shows a reality that is not something to be proud of, and that is that Mike does not enjoy being corrupt, in the course of the story many times it is made clear that he already had a criminal past so it is relatively easy for him to reach peace agreements with criminals.
Mike lives under stress but he is someone with solid and decisive attitudes because his mission is to keep the jail and the town without so many problems.
In the series there are many problems that get out of control and everything causes uncontrollable chaos, even there are silly things that at first glance will not have importance but then can end in more than one death.
This series in some moments reminded me of Vis a Vis, a great Spanish series that I will probably dedicate a post to it in the future. I say this because in Vis a Vis they have a dynamic throughout the series where interviews with the prisoners appear in documentary tone, which gives a realistic and raw air and that would fit perfectly with Mayor Of Kingstown because the realities are so wild.
In this series we will see more than corruption and reality, there are dramatic and symbolic moments that slowly become emotional details like when Mike meets a bear, illustrating a sentimentally ambiguous scene.
I would recommend watching Mayor Of Kingstown, I had no expectations and it has caught me with many elements and characters, it is a series that seems soft for the commercial action that can be seen but handles concepts between murders, rapes, kidnappings, etc. that obviously all goes beyond the level that wants to highlight.

Todos sabemos que en las instancias donde hay formas de ejercer la justicia siempre habrá algo de corrupción.
En el caso de Mayor Of Kingstown no hay excepciones, es una historia donde nos quieren ilustrar la injusticia y el abuso de poder en sus formas intensas.
Aunque no empatizo mucho con series de acción y esta sea de crimen policiaco, yo no sentí que la acción fuera lo destacable en las mejores escenas, de hecho sentí que buscaba acercarse al género de drama porque hay cosas específicas que se sienten casi como en un documental.
La historia de la serie trata de Mike, un personaje que por alguna razón se convierte en el Mayor del pueblo y tiene que mantener la paz entre las bandas criminales y la prisión, es raro porque hay situaciones que tienen que pasar directamente por la cárcel antes de que tengan impacto en la calle y aunque Mike no es el director de la cárcel tiene un poder que ejercer donde siempre busca la tranquilidad ante problemas sociales, personales y demás intranquilidades, pero no disfruta de su trabajo aunque quiere hacer el bien, sabe que ensuciando sus manos nunca estará tranquilo del todo.
Lo mejor de esta serie es que muestra una realidad que no es algo de lo que sentirse orgulloso, y es que Mike no disfruta de ser corrupto, en el transcurso de la historia muchas veces aclaran que él ya tuvo un pasado criminal por lo cual se le hace más relativamente fácil llegar a acuerdos de paz con criminales.
Mike vive estresado pero es alguien con actitudes sólidas y decisivas porque su misión es mantener la cárcel y el pueblo sin tantos problemas.
En la serie hay muchos problemas que se salen de control y todo hace que se desate un caos incontrolable, incluso hay tonterías que a simple vista no tendrán importancia pero que luego puede acabar en mas de una muerte.
Esta serie en algunos momentos me recordó a Vis a Vis, una gran serie española que probablemente le dedique un post en el futuro. Lo digo porque en Vis a Vis tienen una dinámica en toda la serie donde asoman entrevistas a las prisioneras en tono documental, cosa que da un aire realista y crudo y que encajaría perfecto con Mayor Of Kingstown porque las realidades son tan salvajes.
En esta serie veremos mas que corrupción y realidad, hay momentos dramáticos y simbólicos que poco a poco se convierten en detalles emocionales como cuando Mike se encuentra con un oso, ilustrando una escena sentimentalmente ambigua.
Recomendaría ver Mayor Of Kingstown, no tenía expectativas y me ha atrapado con muchos elementos y personajes, es una serie que parece soft por la acción comercial que se puede ver pero maneja conceptos entre asesinatos, violaciones, secuestros, etc. que obviamente todo va más allá del nivel que quiere destacar.
Este tipo de series tampoco son mis preferidas, pero algunas como mencionas, no llegan a sorprender y nos atrapan que no podemos parar de verla. Muchas gracias por la recomendación y análisis de esta serie.
