2001 drama directed by Erik Skjoldbjærg.

After ending a traumatic period in her life, Elizabeth is accepted into Harvard, and it seems that everything will go better, but her sudden mood swings and self-destructive behavior cause problems with everyone around her while she deals with her distant father and her mother, whom she considers intrusive.

Prozac Nation, based on Elizabeth Wurtzel’s book, tells a story about dealing with atypical depression, about the role of parents and the effects of family breakdown, about how relationships with friends or partners can be pushed to the limits of tolerance, and about how a young college student must deal with these problems.

The film premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival, however, it never had a national release in the United States, but after a few years it was released on television and DVD, a place that I consider more appropriate for a film of these characteristics.

In general the movie has good performances, Christina Ricci is very good in the role of Elizabeth Wurtzel, and was acceptably accompanied by a cast with actors like; Jessica Lange in the role of a woman who strives to be a good mother despite the difficulty of dealing with her daughter’s condition, Michelle Williams as the protagonist’s friend, Jason Biggs as the good guy, Jonathan Rhys Meyers as the cool guy or something and Anne Heche in the role of a psychologist.

Prozac Nation is an interesting, moderately entertaining and decently directed film, with a good main performance by Christina Ricci, who really becomes the only memorable element of the film.

If you saw the movie, let me know your opinion and if you haven’t seen it yet, let me know if you are interested in seeing it or if you prefer to see something different.
