Arrival is another alien movie, but wait a minute! In this story something very different happens to what happens in the recurring invasions of aliens. Arrival was released in 2016 receiving multiple Academy Award nominations. Eric Heisserer was the one who gave life to the script inspired by the homonymous novel by Ted Chiang titled “Story of Your Life”. Under the direction of Denis Villeneuve, this film makes a difference from the classic science fiction of alien invasions, using the drama technique to delve deeper into the protagonists and discover the other side of the "Visitors", those intergalactic beings who have arrived on Earth not to destroy it but quite the opposite: to be participants in its reconstruction.

Arrival is one of those films that enchants for its form, its development and its surprising outcome. The line of action is timeless, allowing a distortion of time that occurs before our noses but that we are unable to see. I really liked that new perception of aliens, whose appearance is part of a much larger trigger. This film leads you to analyze again and again about the complex paradox of the present and the future, and the sacrifices that are involved. Although we are talking about a story where beings from another planet have arrived to cause some confusion, the paradigm intersects this premise with the psychological aspect of the characters, more precisely that of its protagonist.
In short, it presents us with a journey to come, a journey to a static memory in time, visible but not tangible, but which will be touched anyway sometime. And it is precisely this resource that hooks you, the one that catches you during the more than an hour that the film lasts. Arrival is the antithesis to space enemies, and further strengthens the message of the conflictive, harsh man, scared in his yearning for war. Part of life is like this: if something unknown terrifies us, we see it as a threat even though it may not have bad intentions. The war scene has been present for centuries in our history, and it seems to be carved even in classic science fiction, for example, in the films that I cited at the beginning of this Post. But Arrival shows us a completely different situation: reconciliation and peace, without leaving aside the union, more precisely between galaxies.
Arrival es una de esas películas que encantan por su forma, su desarrollo y su sorpresivo desenlace. La línea de acción es atemporal, lo que permite una distorsión del tiempo que ocurre ante nuestras narices pero que somos incapaces de verla. Me gustó muchísimo esa nueva percepción de los extraterrestres, cuya aparición forma parte de un desencadenante mucho más grande. Este filme te lleva a analizar una y otra vez sobre la compleja paradoja del presente y el futuro, y los sacrificios que hay de por medio. Si bien hablamos de una historia donde unos seres de otro planeta han llegado para causar algunas confusiones, el paradigma entrecruza dicha premisa con el aspecto psicológico de los personajes, más precisamente la de su protagonista.
En síntesis, nos presenta un viaje por venir, una travesía a un recuerdo estático en el tiempo, visible más no tangible, pero que de todas formas se va a tocar alguna vez. Y es precisamente este recurso el que engancha, el que te atrapa durante la más de una hora que dura la película. Arrival es la antítesis a los enemigos espaciales, y fortalece más aun el mensaje del hombre conflictivo, áspero, asustado en sus anhelos de guerra. Parte de la vida es así: si nos aterra algo desconocido, pues lo vemos como una amenaza a pesar de que quizás no tenga malas intenciones. El escenario bélico ha estado presente por siglos en nuestra historia, y parece tallarse incluso en la ciencia ficción clásica como por ejemplo, en las películas que cité al inicio de este Post. Pero Arrival nos muestra una situación completamente distinta: la reconciliación y la paz, sin dejar a un lado la unión, más precisamente entre galaxias.

It may not be your typical invasion movie, but this is not a flaw, rather an indisputable quality. It does not take a war scene to show the beauty of a story, only a profound and refreshing message is enough to give a captivating turn to all those cinephiles eager for transcendental films and who swim against the current. To me, Arrival is the red alien in a bunch of green aliens. It was a feature film that I enjoyed from start to finish, and it kept me scattered until, surprisingly, the ends were tied up in a Plot Point that I was definitely not expecting.
Amy Adams's performance is charismatic from start to finish, full of that spark that enchants from the first minutes of the film. Successful her role for this story: solemn, confusing, risky but above all brave. The soundtrack was magnificent, not to mention the difficult work that the camera showed us with sensational images, very interconnected with the characters. It was a good job that Denis Villeneuve did under the direction of this feature film, one that led to him being nominated for an Academy Award. Too bad the story only got an Oscar, even so, it is an admirable film.
Quizás no sea la típica película de invasiones, pero esto no es un defecto, más bien una cualidad indiscutible. No hace falta un escenario bélico para mostrar la belleza de una historia, solo un mensaje profundo y renovador es suficiente para dar un giro atrapante en todos aquellos cinéfilos ansiosos por filmes trascendentales y que naden en contra de la corriente. Para mí, Arrival es el alíen rojo dentro de un montón de alienígenas verdes. Fue un largometraje que disfruté de principio a fin, y que me tuvo disperso hasta que, sorprendentemente, los cabos se ataron en un Plot Point que definitivamente no me esperaba.
La actuación de Amy Adams es carismática de principio a fin, repleta de esa chispa que encanta desde los primeros minutos de la película. Acertado su papel para esta historia: solemne, confusa, arriesgada pero sobretodo valiente. La banda sonora estuvo magnifica, y ni hablar del difícil trabajo que la cámara nos mostró con imágenes sensacionales, muy interconectadas con los personajes. Fue un buen trabajo el que hizo Denis Villeneuve bajo la dirección de este largometraje, uno que lo llevó a ser nominado al premio Oscar de la Academia. Lástima que la historia solo consiguiera un Oscar, aun así, es un filme admirable.

Este film es expectacular, me encanto la manera en la que diseñaron a los extraterrestres. Fue interesante como estos seres percibían el tiempo, y lo que sucede con el personaje principal cuando descubre la manera de comunicarse que estos seres emplean. Me pareció una peli súper original y muy disfrutable para los amantes de la ciencia ficción.
Me pregunto si has visto una serie que se llama Devs? La trama no tiene nada que ver con Arrival pero también explora una tema de la ciencia ficción relacionado al libre elbredío. Si puedes verla te la recomiendo muchísimo. El creador de esa serie también hizo una peli que se llama Ex Machina, esta es un poco famosa así que a lo mejor ya la has visto, pero si no, también deberías verla.
Supongo que también has visto a Interstellar no? Sino, bueno esa es otra recomendación de mi parte xD.
De todas las pelis y series que me recomendaste solo he visto interstellar de la cual planeo hacer una reseña muy pronto. he oído sobre devs estoy esperando almacenar algo de tiempo para disfrutarla y así apreciar su trama. siempre he sido un amante de las paradojas del tiempo y el misterio enmarcado en los alinigenas.
