I found the movie to be pretty bad. I kept expecting it to tie into the games somehow, and at one point even thought that maybe it was a prequel. But naw, that didn't happen. This is a clear cut case of just using the name of a popular IP to get some quick cash!

well if you look at the CCTV's at the end of the film they seem to elude to the mountain top setting that was the real location of the game. This might indicate that they intend to do the sequel there, which would be fine provided they dramatically improve their writing staff.

There's also a section in the movie where when you look at the shrinks desk you can see Joshua's medical file there. That is the reason why I thought it might have been prequel.

ah, good find. I didn't notice that. It's hard to say what movie studios will do. Making $20 million sounds awesome to us, but is that a meaningful enough amount of money for Sony? maybe not. Plus if the do the one on top of the mountain and DON'T have Rami Malek in it, it's going to make a lot of people upset.
