Recuerdo mi infancia plagada de sus canciones, desde el día en que una Geisha bebé estaba en su silla para comer y empezó a sonar Yellow Submarine, empecé a mover mis piernitas al ritmo de las percusiones.
Alguna vez en la preparatoria, en un ejercicio escolar nos hicieron diseñar el soundtrack de nuestra vida y elegí para empezar Strawberry fields forever.
En secundaria, me aprendí casi todas las canciones. Vi casi todas las películas, precursoras de los vídeos musicales... Incluso en el taller de teatro dijeron que me parecía a John Lennon y en un ejercicio de imitaciones, adivinen a quien eligieron sus amigos para el marido de Yoko Ono, así es, a mi.
Sin dudarlo, puedo decir que es una de las bandas que pese a tener tantos años extinta, me ha marcado para toda la vida.
Así que, ahora imaginen mi carita, cuando mi padre entró a la sala y me dijo "hay una mini serie que van a sacar para Disney+".
De repente mi emoción pasó a seriedad, nosotros no contamos con ese servicio bajo contrato. Contamos con el viejo y confiable Netflix, el tío HBO Max, Amazon porque también compramos bastante en línea; contratar Disney era demasiado, empezando porque no somos consumidores de los productos infantiles de la compañía, tampoco es que seamos seguidores de hueso colorado del ya saturado universo de Marvel, los productos de Fox están en la otra plataforma más adulta llamada Star+.
En mi país (México), el contrato del servicio es por año, no al mes... Así que para meter el período de prueba, se tiene que meter un método de pago, y no ví a mi padre con intenciones de tener otra plataforma.
Como consumidora de videojuegos,tengo algunas promociones de códigos de un mes o tres meses en algunas suscripciones, y pensé en hacerlo, pero una amiga llegó a mi diciendo "mírenla por mi cuenta, yo no uso mi sesión, mis hermanos tiene la suya, yo no la uso". Así que después de meditarlo, abrí la sesión en mi pantalla nueva (sacada a pagos de 18 meses) que ya es 4K, y conecté mi mini componente: si vamos a ver una serie musical, hay que verla y escucharla bien.
Recordaba mucho del contexto de este material: de un programa en vivo, terminó en documental (en dónde resaltaban más los problemas entre ellos, dando una versión distorsionada de la situación), y el documental que tuvo premios hasta de la academia fue odiado por los mismos Beatles, hartos de la experiencia —y entre ellos—, no fueron ni a la ceremonia de los Oscares. La producción del disco fue odiada por Paul al grado de hacer la versión original que quería en su álbum Naked.
El documental "Let it be" del director Michael Lindsay-Hogg, mostraba la cara más amarga, y el proyecto que tomó Peter Jackson (director de la saga de "El señor de los anillos") fue una selección de material, remasterizando y arreglando desde hace cuatro años, terminando de realizarse en estos tiempos de pandemia de la Covid-19. Catorce técnicos especializados en Nueva Zelanda trabajaron con 60 horas de imagen y 100 horas de audio, las mismas grabaciones ayudaron a mostrar el concepto final para el director.
Ahora un poquito de historia... LOS SPOILERS
En el momento que ingresaron al estudio (primero el set de película y luego trasladarse a la disquera), Los Beatles llevaban casi tres años sin presentarse en vivo (decisión tomada desde 1966 por el exceso de gritos que les impedía escucharse), de manera que estaban ansiosos por reunirse a grabar. Extrañaban la conexión que tenían como grupo y tenían la esperanza de volver a capturar la energía de sus primeras actuaciones en vivo en Hamburgo y el Cavern Club.
Peter Jackson estaba fascinado por lo que descubrió, ya que pese a ser el previo a meses antes de la separación, había imágenes de los miembros cálidos entre ellos, de trato alegre, pláticas emotivas, bobas —plagadas de bromas— y juguetonas.
Yo particularmente estaba encantaba al escuchar los audios "de contrabando" que había, el arreglo y la calidad rescataron muchas situaciones que aclaraban mitos y creencias erróneas de la cultura popular, por ejemplo a Paul hablando bien de Yoko, que le caía bien y que si no la querían en el estudio era por un acuerdo de los miembros de no llevar a las parejas, pero estando John tan enamorado, no decían mucho.
Incluso hay improvisaciones con todos los miembros y Yoko cantando —gritando—, la tan satanizada mujer la mayor parte del tiempo estaba callada y no se metía en el proceso, es más, se la pasaba hasta leyendo revistas.
Fue un deleite ver cómo de una visita casual, Billy Preston terminó en el álbum acreditado como el único artista en toda la historia Beatle.
Los detalles de ver canciones del pasado y de futuras apariciones de esbozos tanto del grupo como en solitario fue muy lindo. Cada que aparecía una parte de una canción que formaría parte del futuro como The Wings, o de John en solitario fue genial, era como escuchar el inicio de versiones acústicas.
Eso sí, como tomaban y fumaban —sobretodo George—, a ratos se vería como abrían botellas de vino, cerveza, algunos refrescos pero lo que era el tabaco, no faltaba. De alguna forma me daba tristeza ver eso, ya que sabemos que le sucedió a Harrison.
Y hablando de Harrison, tremenda escena se arma con él cuando se toma personal una broma de los chicos de meter a alguien más. George era reconocido por ser un tanto rencoroso, pero ya verlo fue un pequeño dolor en el pecho. Aunque volvió a los días después de charlas que no salieron bien, se nota la inconformidad de no sentirse valorado como compositor e intérprete.
Era un momento delicado, Paul intentando llevar a flote todo, Ringo que tenía una actitud demasiado pasiva, John que estaba en otro mundo y George molesto.
El momento final, el concierto en la azotea es de los más memorables, ya que se ven las entrevistas a nivel de suelo de los transeúntes, vecinos, gente que llegaba. Todos desconcertados inicialmente por escucharlos, opiniones diversas de que pensaban de la muestra de canciones y como en todos lados, las quejas de los vecinos por la música llevando a la policía al lugar.
Adoré como todos en las oficinas de Apple literalmente fingían demencia con la policía hasta que llegó el jefe del departamento.
Finalmente aunque no se grabó todo el álbum en vivo, algunas de las canciones en la azotea fueron elegidas para el disco y algunas de las grabaciones del interior previas también. Terminaron después las grabaciones del álbum y en lo que ha sabemos sería la pelea de Paul con Spector por los arreglos en algunas canciones que no deseaba con orquesta.
En conclusión, como archivo histórico y de interés si eres fan de la banda, es un gran trabajo que creo vale la pena a pesar de la duración de hora y media de cada episodio.
Pienso que pudieron hacerlos de al menos una hora para la gente que no disfruta de tanto tiempo viendo programas, pero en lo personal, a mí me gustó tal cual.
Espero que les haya gustado un poco de mi narración y si no han ido a ver Get Back, vayan a verla.

So, now imagine my little face, when my father walked into the room and said "there's a mini-series coming out for Disney+".
Suddenly my excitement turned to seriousness, we don't have that service under contract. We have the old and reliable Netflix, uncle HBO Max, Amazon because we also buy a lot online; contracting Disney was too much, starting because we are not consumers of the company's children's products, nor are we red-boned followers of the already saturated Marvel universe, Fox products are on the other more adult platform called Star+.
In my country (Mexico), the service contract is per year, not per month? So to get the trial period in, you have to get a payment method in, and I didn't see my father with intentions of having another platform.
As a video game consumer, I have some promotions of one month or three month codes on some subscriptions, and I thought about doing it, but a friend came to me saying "look at it on my own, I don't use my session, my brothers have theirs, I don't use it". So after mulling it over, I opened the session on my new screen (taken out at 18 months payments) which is already 4K, and plugged in my mini component: if we're going to watch a music series, it needs to be watched and listened to well.
I remembered a lot of the context of this material: from a live show, it ended up as a documentary (where they highlighted the problems between them, giving a distorted version of the situation), and the documentary, which even won awards from the academy, was hated by the Beatles themselves, fed up with the experience -and between them-, they didn't even go to the Oscars ceremony. The production of the album was hated by Paul to the point of making the original version he wanted in his album Naked.
The documentary "Let it be" by director Michael Lindsay-Hogg, showed the bitter side, and the project that Peter Jackson (director of the saga of "The Lord of the Rings") took on was a selection of material, remastering and arranging from four years ago, finishing in these times of the Covid-19 pandemic. Fourteen specialized technicians in New Zealand worked with 60 hours of image and 100 hours of audio, the same recordings helped to show the final concept to the director.
Now a little bit of history... THE SPOILERS
By the time they entered the studio (first the film set and then moving to the record label), The Beatles had not performed live for almost three years (a decision made since 1966 due to excessive shouting that prevented them from hearing each other), so they were anxious to get together to record. They missed the connection they had as a group and hoped to recapture the energy of their early live performances in Hamburg and the Cavern Club.
Peter Jackson was fascinated by what he discovered, for despite being the lead-up to months before the split, there were images of the members being warm with each other, cheerful with each other, emotive, goofy - full of jokes - and playful.
I particularly loved listening to the "bootleg" audios, the arrangement and quality rescued many situations that clarified myths and erroneous beliefs of popular culture, for example Paul speaking well of Yoko, that he liked her and that if she was not wanted in the studio it was because of an agreement of the members not to take the couples, but being John so in love, they didn't say much.
There are even improvisations with all the members and Yoko singing -shouting-, the much demonized woman most of the time was quiet and did not get involved in the process, in fact, she even spent her time reading magazines.
It was a delight to see how from a chance visit, Billy Preston ended up on the album credited as the only artist in Beatle history.
The details of seeing songs from the past and future appearances of both group and solo sketches was very nice. Every time a part of a song appeared that would be part of the future as The Wings, or of John solo was great, it was like listening to the beginning of acoustic versions.
Of course, as they drank and smoked -especially George-, at times you could see how they would open bottles of wine, beer, some soft drinks but there was no lack of tobacco. Somehow it made me sad to see that, since we know it happened to Harrison.
And speaking of Harrison, what a scene he makes for himself when he takes the guys' joke about bringing someone else in personally. George was known for being somewhat spiteful, but seeing him was a bit of a pain in the chest. Although he returned to the days after talks that didn't go well, the discomfort of not feeling valued as a songwriter and performer is palpable.
It was a delicate moment, Paul trying to keep everything afloat, Ringo who had a too passive attitude, John who was in another world and George upset.
The final moment, the rooftop concert is one of the most memorable, as you see the ground level interviews of passers-by, neighbors, people arriving. All initially bewildered to hear them, varying opinions of what they thought of the sample of songs and as everywhere else, complaints from neighbors about the music bringing the police to the venue.
I loved how everyone at the Apple offices literally feigned insanity with the police until the head of the department arrived.
Eventually although the whole album was not recorded live, some of the songs on the rooftop were chosen for the album and some of the previous interior recordings as well. The recordings of the album were later finished and in what we know would be Paul's fight with Spector over the arrangements on some songs he did not want with orchestra.
In conclusion, as a historical archive and of interest if you are a fan of the band, it is a great work that I think is worthwhile despite the hour and a half length of each episode.
I think they could have made them at least an hour long for people who don't enjoy watching so much time watching shows, but personally, I liked it as is.

Music videos has always been a motivation for me from onset. The beatles, great music from them

When I was a teenager I liked Beatles songs, people looked at me funny because I liked such old music. I didn't think anything of it, music is timeless and enjoyable. Especially from these geniuses. I'm going to look for some videos to listen to them again.
I totally understand you, I consider myself ignorant of many current songs and artists, and I listen more to music from my teenage years, and very old ones.
