A review/breakdown of the movie by Tyler perry "STRAW"
Synopsis
A single mother navigates a series of unfortunate events, leading her down an unforseen path where she becomes embroiled in a situation she never envisioned, finding herself at the centre of suspicious in an indifferent world.
I will like to give Taraji P. Henson her flowers for embodying the role and bringing the character "Janiyah" to life.
Lets take a look at Janiyah Wilkinson, a single mother grappling with the trauma of losing a child, who in a state of dissociative amnesia goes on her normal everyday activities with her make belief daughter oblivious to the fact that the child was death. Janiyah gets caught up in a robbery, murder and another robbery again but in all she stood strong. A mothers love is everything, in everything she did, it was for her child. Losing a child is one thing, but losing a child that your whole life revolves around is another, the trauma, the pains, the self absorbent and everything, and the world? As cruel as ever.
Lets take a look at her friend who she worked with. In everything you do, pray for a friend like this, sorry I forgot her name. Someone who would stand up for you even when accused of murder, she never had anything bad to say about Janiyah and stood up for her.
Next will be Tayena Taylor who played the role of Detective Kay Raymond
.
You know what I do say " in every situation there is someone who understands and relates with you, and certainly if there was no detective Raymond the situation would have been in reverse. She understood cos she had been in those shoes before, and she stood firm in what she believed. She never bended even with pressure from her boss and FBI.
Up next we have Sherri Shepherd who played the role of the Bank Manager
Damn! The way she stood by her, walked out the bank with her with their hands raised. Janiyah could not have done that alone, she needed someone who she could trust both in the inside and outside. She put herself in Janiyah shoes, even though she was scared, she was a mother and knew about the inner battles Janiyah fought.
Ashley Versher who played the role of Tessa.
She was quite a pain in the a**s but looking at it in her own point of view. She was scared at first and being kept hostage with a gun and a ticking time bomb( so they believed) you could have panicked badly than her. She couldn't relate with Janiyah lose maybe because she has never been in such a position before. She's never know pain and how it feels like the whole world is against you.
Up next is Mike Merrill who played the part of Detective Grimes
They are the kind of Detective who don't look past evidence, he was doing his job, yes! But he wasn't looking past his nose, I think in a detective kinda job you need more than evidence, you need to know when you need to connect feelings and guts together.
I wouldn't conclude this without talking about these two.
One trying to obstruct the law by lying and one threatening a civilian, he made matters worst by threatening to kill Janiyah and hitting her car and still went for her arrest .
The power of social media, social media has its pros and cons. The voice of the people is one thing that saved Janiyah. If those protesters were not outside trust me the police would have forced their way into the bank and that could have escalated the incident.
All in all, always be good, let the world have something positive to say about you. Let your good deeds overshadow your bad deeds, and don't forget to be kind to whoever you meet, irrespective of your position like Janiyah helped her poor neighbour even when she had nothing.
