Esta semana quiero hablarles del remake de "El Padre de la Novia" que estrenó recientemente HBOmax el pasado mes de Junio de este año, dándonos una versión refrescada de la primera película que fue estrenada en 1991 y protagonizada por Steve Martin, Diane Keaton y Martin Short.
Para la versión latina (o miamera, a mi parecer), con Andy García, Gloria Estefan, Adria Arjona y Diego Boneta, ofreciéndonos una forma alternativa con sabor y drama latino de este film.

This week I want to talk to you about the remake of "The Father of the Bride" that recently premiered HBOmax last June of this year, giving us a refreshed version of the first film that was released in 1991 and starred by Steve Martin, Diane Keaton and Martin Short.
For the Latin version (or Miamera, in my opinion), with Andy García, Gloria Estefan, Adria Arjona and Diego Boneta, offering us an alternative way with flavor and drama Latin of this film.

Si vieron la primera película sabrán de que va esta, seguramente hay algunos cambios en la trama para adaptarla a estos tiempos. Una historia recurrente, aunque contada ya varias veces, en donde el padre de la novia (Andy García) se impone a pagar los gastos que conlleva la boda de su hija mayor (Adria Arjona) con un novio (Diego Boneta) el cual todavía no conocen ni la madre (Gloria Estefan) ni el padre al momento del compromiso de la pareja.
If you saw the first movie you will know what this one is about, surely there are some changes in the plot to adapt it to these times. A recurring story, although already told several times, in which the father of the bride (Andy García) imposes himself to pay the expenses involved in the wedding of his eldest daughter (Adria Arjona) with a boyfriend (Diego Boneta) who is still unknown to the mother (Gloria Estefan) nor the father at the time of the couple's engagement.
Todo se vuelve caótico al tener solo 1 mes para planear la boda y es ahí donde comienzan todos los problemas y a revelarse secretos de la familia de la novia que los llevan a convertirse en el centro de atención por las razones equivocadas, alejando un poco las miradas de la novia y el novio para enforcarse en las vidas de sus padres.
Everything becomes chaotic having only 1 month to plan the wedding and that is where all the problems begin and secrets of the bride's family are revealed that lead them to become the center of attention for the wrong reasons, turning their eyes away a little. of the bride and groom to focus on the lives of their parents.

La adaptación de este film me pareció interesante, abordaron temas importante dentro de la cultura latina (sin estar necesariamente en un país latino, ya que toda la película se desarrolla en Miami), se habla de las tradiciones y costumbres, de la importancia de los lazos familiares y de sobrellevar las vicisitudes de la vida acompañado de los seres que nos aman.
The adaptation of this film seemed interesting to me, they addressed important issues within the Latin culture (without necessarily being in a Latin country, since the entire film takes place in Miami), they talk about traditions and customs, the importance of family ties and coping with the vicissitudes of life accompanied by the beings who love us.
Pero no todo es color rosa, se tocan temas importantes que culturalmente se han pasado de generación en generación y que hoy en día son considerados "tóxicos" dentro de nuestra comunidad latina. Un padre arraigado a sus tradiciones cubanas que le impiden ver que lo que quiere hacer por su familia no es lo correcto, intenta imponer su voluntad ante los deseos de su hija mayor (y también sobre la menor) porque su "tradición" así lo dicta.
But not everything is rosy, important issues that have been culturally passed from generation to generation and that today are considered "toxic" within our Latino community are touched upon. A father rooted in his Cuban traditions that prevent him from seeing that what he wants to do for his family is not the right thing to do, he tries to impose his will on the wishes of his eldest daughter (and also on the youngest) because " tradition" of him so dictates.
También vemos a los novios como hijos algo irrespetuosos contra sus padres, intentando por todos los medios ser escuchados para acabar con los estereotipos/tradiciones con los que sus padres fueron criados y los padres de sus padres, y así seguimos.
We also see the bride and groom as somewhat disrespectful children against their parents, trying by all means to be heard to end the stereotypes/traditions with which their parents were raised and their parents' parents, and so we continue.

La inclusión de una familia cubana y una familia mexicana me pareció bastante buena, los actores y actrices dieron la talla en la producción, aunque solo fueron algunas caras conocidas para mi, fue bueno ver talento latino reunido en una producción estadounidense de calidad de exportación.
The inclusion of a Cuban family and a Mexican family seemed quite good to me, the actors and actresses were up to the task in the production, although they were only a few familiar faces for me, it was good to see Latin talent gathered in an export quality American production.
Sin duda fue la familia cubana la que se llevó el centro de atención durante toda la película. También pudimos ver como la música latina fue incluida, géneros como el bolero, la salsa, el merengue y mariachis se destacaron dentro de la película, y por supuesto el reggaeton, que me pareció innecesario pero creo que hay latinos quienes se identifican con esa música.
Without a doubt, it was the Cuban family that took the center of attention throughout the film. We could also see how Latin music was included, genres such as bolero, salsa, merengue and mariachis were highlighted in the film, and of course reggaeton, which seemed unnecessary to me but I think there are Latinos who identify with that music.

En producción se llevan un buen puntaje, me gustó bastante. El presupuesto se justificó en las escenografías y en algunos montajes, aunque vi efectos especiales que no valieron la pena o fueron innecesarios, pero entendiendo que la película se grabó recientemente aún con las restricciones de la pandemia, lo puedo dejar pasar, porque tal vez no tenían permitido realizar una escena en particular en un escenario real.
In production they have a good score, I quite liked it. The budget was justified in the sets and in some montages, although I saw special effects that were not worth it or were unnecessary, but understanding that the film was recently recorded even with the restrictions of the pandemic, I can let it go, because maybe not they were allowed to perform a particular scene on a real stage.
Aunque fue la tercera adaptación de esta película, no creo que sea la mejor que se haya hecho, sigue siendo para mi la versión de 1991 la que continua en el primer lugar para mi. Nada en contra de esta versión pero como que no dio el click del todo. Según los medios, la película arrasó en su estreno y se convirtió en la más vista de la plataforma.
Although it was the third adaptation of this movie, I don't think it's the best ever made, it's still the 1991 version that continues to be in first place for me. Nothing against this version but it kind of didn't click at all. According to the media, the film swept its premiere and became the most watched on the platform.

Para concluir, ¿es una película latina o miamera?
No lo sé. El elenco de la película es casi todo latino (salvo las damas de honor y la wedding planner y su asistente, al igual que el compañero de la hermana menor de la novia), las historias y la cultura latina están presente, pero en la película solo se habla en español un 15%, más o menos, dejando un 85% de inglés como idioma dominante dentro de la película.
To conclude, is it a Latino or Miamera movie?
I do not know. The cast of the film is almost all Latino (except for the bridesmaids and the wedding planner and her assistant, as well as the companion of the bride's younger sister), the stories and the Latino culture are present, but in the film is only spoken in Spanish 15%, more or less, leaving 85% English as the dominant language within the film.
Tal vez el film fue pensado para un nicho anglo pero con sus protagonistas latinos sabían que atraerían a una audiencia latina si o si, porque nos gusta ver a nuestra gente en proyectos anglos, no lo podemos negar.
Perhaps the film was intended for an Anglo niche but with its Latin protagonists they knew that they would attract a Latin audience yes or yes, because we like to see our people in Anglo projects, we cannot deny it.
De ahí surge mi pregunta y quisiera saber que opinan ustedes al respecto. Por mi parte, eso es todo. Espero leerlos pronto por acá.

Esta pelicula ha estado en mi lista desde que salió, pero aun no he conseguido donde verla que no sea hbo max jajaja, me parece super fresco que traigan una versión actual y con aire latino de un clasico de clasicos, eso me emociona.

No es una mala versión, la disfruté y hasta me reí en varias ocasiones, refrescarla fue un acierto, eso es seguro. Se disfruta más en compañía, así que, no dudes en verla con alguien más.

Se ve entretenida, recuerdo la primera versión de esta película, un padre totalmente caótico con la boda de su pequeña hija, un gran personaje, esta versión es como dices totalmente actualizada, habrá que verla, gracias por compartirla, saludos.
Si, creo que esa es la mejor recomendación que puedo hacer, que la vean y que concluyan en base a lo que ven y perciben sobre esta versión.
