Shutter Island ( Known in Spanish America as "la isla siniestra") is a film of American origin with a duration of 138 minutes (2 hours and 18 minutes), is officially attributed to the genres of horror, drama, suspense, crime and mystery, is an installment of 2010, was directed by Martin Scorsese (director known worldwide for directing The Wolf of Wall Street '13, goodfellas '90 and cab driver '76), the film is based on a novel written by Dennis Lehane (with several novels such as embrace me darkness '96 and a drink before the war '94). It is not known exactly how much was the budget but it ranges between 80 and 35 million dollars (a very wide spectrum), it is known that its current box office is almost 295 million dollars.

La película fue estrenada en el festival de Berlín el 13 de febrero de 2010, aunque fue lanzada oficialmente en los cines estadounidenses el 19 de febrero del mismo año. Esta era una película a estrenar para el 2009 pero la cadena de producción Paramount Pictures decidió retrasar la entrega hasta el año siguiente, Paramount Pictures es la distribuidora oficial y Phoenix Pictures y Sikelia Productions son sus productores.
The film premiered at the Berlin Film Festival on February 13, 2010, although it was officially released in U.S. theaters on February 19, 2010. This was a film to be released in 2009 but the production chain Paramount Pictures decided to delay the delivery until the following year, Paramount Pictures is the official distributor and Phoenix Pictures and Sikelia Productions are its producers.
La película comienza con Teddy en un bote muy mareado por el meneo, al salir del camarote/baño en el que se encontraba decide ir a la proa donde se encuentra con Chuck, chuck es su nuevo colega. Ya que ellos son agentes federales y se dirigen a la isla Shutter a un hospital psiquiátrico para delincuentes, para conocerse mejor chuck le hace una serie de mini preguntas a Teddy y entre esas preguntas esta si estuvo casado, él respondiendo que sí pero que murió su esposa en un incendio, dando detalles personales como que, lo que lo reconforta a veces es saber que murió debido al humo y no por el fuego mismo (un poco retorcido igual pero… ok).
The film begins with Teddy in a boat very dizzy from the shaking, when he gets out of the cabin / bathroom where he was he decides to go to the bow where he meets Chuck, Chuck is his new colleague. Since they are federal agents and are headed to Shutter island to a psychiatric hospital for criminals, to get to know each other better chuck asks Teddy a series of mini questions and among those questions is if he was married, he answering yes but that his wife died in a fire, giving personal details like that, what comforts him sometimes is knowing that he died because of the smoke and not because of the fire itself (a little twisted anyway but... ok).
Al arribar en la isla estos fueron recibidos por varios guardias bastate armados y fuertemente malhumorados que pone incomodo a Teddy; al irse tras unos minutos en el auto del hospital hacia el establecimiento, pueden ver las instalaciones por sus exteriores dando una apariencia lúgubre y carcelaria, al llegar al portón principal son atendidos por el director que les explica cómo está distribuido el hospital; el pabellón A para hombres, B para mujeres y el pabellón C que era donde estaban los reclusos de máxima seguridad al cual no se puede acceder sin permiso. Seguidamente a esto les hacen pasar no sin antes entregar sus armas en la entrada lo cual crea un poco de tensión entre ellos ya que también eran oficiales igual que ellos, pero por reglas de penitenciaría, la entregaron.
Upon arrival on the island they were greeted by several armed and heavily armed guards, which made Teddy uncomfortable; when leaving after a few minutes in the hospital car to the establishment, they can see the facilities on the outside giving a gloomy and prison-like appearance, upon arriving at the main gate they are met by the director who explains how the hospital is distributed; Ward A for men, B for women and Ward C which was where the maximum security inmates were and which could not be accessed without permission. After this they are shown in, but not before handing in their weapons at the entrance, which creates a bit of tension among them, since they were also officers like them, but due to penitentiary rules, they handed them in.
procediendo a ver al doctor encargado para que les explicara que estaban haciendo ahí específicamente, el director explica que en ese hospital solo están los reclusos más peligrosos, y ningún otro lugar los admite (a pesar de que mientras dice eso, un recluso cortando la grama del hospital saluda a chuck de forma superficial pero muy gentilmente), al llegar al doctor y tener una platica sobre como era el hospital antes de su llegada Teddy lo interrumpe y le exige saber el porque estan ahi, a lo que le explica que hay una paciente desaparecida “rachel solando”, que es extremadamente peligrosa, estaba recluida porque mató a sus hijos en el lago atrás de su casa y era viuda ya que su esposo había muerto en la guerra, el doctor también detalla que había enloquecido y vive en un mundo de fantasía, creía que sus hijos siguen vivos, el hospital era su casa y los guardias con los enfermeros eran sus vecinos.
proceeding to see the doctor in charge to explain what they were doing there specifically, the director explains that only the most dangerous inmates are in that hospital, and no other place admits them (although while saying that, an inmate cutting the hospital grass greets Chuck superficially but very gently), upon reaching the doctor and having a talk about what the hospital was like before his arrival Teddy interrupts him and demands to know why they are there, to which he explains that there is a missing patient "Rachel Solando", who is extremely dangerous, she was a recluse because she killed her children in the lake behind her house and was a widow since her husband had died in the war, the doctor also details that she had gone mad and lives in a fantasy world, she believed that her children are still alive, the hospital was her home and the guards with the nurses were her neighbors.
La tarea de estos agentes era la de investigar cómo se esfumó, porque no ha sido encontrada por toda la isla, indagando sobre solando, Teddy no se explica cómo esta mujer vive en un mundo de fantasía, le parece irreal, en la investigación del cuarto de solando, Teddy encontró un papel que contenía escrito “quien es el 67?” lo cual solo deja una incógnita pero no dice nada. Al terminar hacen una inspección completa de la isla y es prácticamente imposible salir de ella o seguir ahí sin haber sido detectada.
The task of these agents was to investigate how she vanished, because she has not been found all over the island, inquiring about solando, Teddy does not explain how this woman lives in a fantasy world, it seems unreal, in the investigation of solando's room, Teddy he found a paper that contained written "who is 67?" which only leaves an unknown but says nothing. At the end they make a complete inspection of the island and it is practically impossible to leave it or remain there undetected.
Al platicar con el doctor por la noche tuvo flashbacks de guerra, de campos de concentración nazis, eso lo puso un poco agresivo y exige los expedientes de todos los que trabajaban en la isla, aunque el doctor se lo negó porque era contra la política. Molesto fue a dormir, y le confiesa a chuck que solando no había solo desaparecido, la habían “ayudado”, al dormir comenzó a soñar con su esposa dolores, la cual reclamaba por ser un alcohólico, y al explicarle porqué y estar en paz con ella el sueño solo se esfuma.
While talking to the doctor at night he had flashbacks of war, of Nazi concentration camps, that made him a little aggressive and he demanded the files of all those who worked on the island, although the doctor refused because it was against politics. Upset he went to sleep, and confesses to Chuck that Solando had not only disappeared, she had been "helped", while sleeping he began to dream of his wife pains, which claimed to be an alcoholic, and when he explained why and be at peace with her the dream just vanishes.
Al despertar comienza a entrevistar a los recluidos que pudieron haber tenido contacto con solando, varios pasaron pero no tenían respuesta alguna porque decían merecía la muerte por haber matado a sus hijos, la única que entablo una conversación con Teddy fue una señora que platico que no sabía nada de ella e inmediatamente pidió un vaso de agua, chuck amablemente fue a buscarlo y cuando estuvieron solos Teddy y ella, la señora tomó la libreta de él y escribió algo, ella marchó al “tomarse el agua” y los agentes también lo hicieron, Teddy le comenta a chuck que todo parece muy irreal, que esta última reclusa dijo todo como si fuera un guión, que hay algo mucho más detrás de esto.
When he woke up he began to interview the inmates who may have had contact with Solando, several passed by but had no response because they said he deserved death for having killed their children, the only one who struck up a conversation with Teddy was a lady who said she did not know anything about her and immediately asked for a glass of water, Chuck kindly went to get it and when Teddy and she were alone, the lady took his notebook and wrote something, she left to "drink the water" and so did the agents, Teddy tells Chuck that everything seems very unreal, that this last inmate said everything as if it were a script, that there is something much more behind this.
Mucho después en una junta de los directivos del lugar exponen que querían tener resguardados a los reclusos del pabellón c, aunque el doctor en jefe les dije que eso no debería de ser así, aunque un doctor refuta esta opinión diciendo que por las fuerte tormenta se ahogaran 24 pacientes del pabellón C, en eso llegan nuestros agentes escuchando que hay 42 pacientes en los pabellones restantes, que con los del C hacian 66 pacientes, Teddy le pregunta al doctor “¿porque 66?” si solando dejó una nota de que eran 67.
Much later, at a meeting of the directors of the place, they stated that they wanted to keep the inmates in ward C safe, although the chief doctor told them that this should not be so, although a doctor refutes this opinion saying that due to the strong storm, 24 patients from ward C drowned, when our agents arrive, hearing that there are 42 patients in the remaining wards, that with those in ward C there were 66 patients, Teddy asks the doctor "why 66?" if he only left a note that there were 67.
Muy vivaz el doctor desvía su atención diciéndole que ya no tiene que preocuparse ya que solando fue encontrada, Teddy fue rápidamente a interrogarla dándose cuenta que efectivamente que vive en una fantasía, Teddy extraído de toda esta situación decide investigar a fondo el verdadero misterio que se esconde tras este hospital y porque todo es tan sospechoso.
Very lively the doctor diverts her attention telling her that she no longer has to worry since she was just found, Teddy quickly went to interrogate her realizing that she is indeed living in a fantasy, Teddy extracted from this whole situation decides to investigate in depth the real mystery that hides behind this hospital and why everything is so suspicious.
Shutter island es un film que te deja muy apretado de tiempo para comprender que realmente sucede en esta película, pero sin duda el suspenso hace que no te pierdas ni un detalle, pareciera tener fallos, ¿pero realmente los tiene? hay que prestar mucha atención, no parece tan salida de la realidad, hay una escenografía muy buena y ambientada con música clásica de la época, muy buena si me lo preguntan, lo único con lo que no cuentan es con el final que realmente, ni sé para qué lo digo, pero es un final que dices “QUE? WAO”.
Shutter island is a film that leaves you very tight of time to understand what really happens in this film, but certainly the suspense makes you do not miss a detail, it seems to have flaws, but really has them? you have to pay close attention, it does not seem so out of reality, there is a very good scenery and set with classical music of the time, very good if you ask me, the only thing that does not count is the end that really, I do not know why I say it, but it is an ending that you say "WHAT? WOH".
