From time to time in the world of series comes out one that breaks everything, one that at birth breaks the mold so that it will be very difficult for something similar to emerge again; this series in question is Severance. The point against it is that it is on Apple TV+ and perhaps many people do not have access to this platform but that it is a genius, that it is one of the best there is on “television” today and that its second season was considerably better than the first is undeniable. What Ben Stiller has done, which I compare it a bit to Mike White's The White Lotus, is one of the best series in years whose ending of this second season reminded me of feelings when I saw Ozymandias, the best episode of Breaking Bad.

For those who are not yet on the Severance train, let me explain very quickly what it is. Lumon is a company that has its employees severed, that is, they underwent a procedure where they separate the mind from the person. You are one outside the company, you are another inside it. As a result of this, everything unravels and certain cracks begin to appear between the group that works together. It must be said that the people who run Lumon are a kind of “cult” very strange, cartoonish, nonsensical to the point that it is funny but with a very sinister and dark undertone. The second season begins after a piece of news that occurs in the first season and based on it the whole plot develops.

But how did this second installment improve? - In absolutely everything. The deepening of the plot was elevated to another level, here we will know more about Lumon, what they are up to, what their goals are, we will see new faces of the company; there is much more context to detest, or not, this peculiar company. Another thing is the development of their characters. I think they gave each one their corresponding share of attention so that we can understand well where each one of them is going. What impresses me the most is the ability they have to play two characters within the same series, because yes, physically they are the same but they have to change the chip too many times, never said more literally. In fact in the final chapter there is a scene of the most surreal between the Mark employee of Lumon and the Mark of outside talking to each other through a camera recorder; of the best I've seen.

And third are the visuals. This series puts a lot of effort in this department, everything is very neat, clean, details are taken care of, there are many Easter eggs of the same series in each episode, it is an ode to OCD. This goes hand in hand with the absurd and this series has a lot of that, there are things that happen in Lumon that are very difficult to understand for those of us who are not employees. For me that is the magic of Severance, it is very complicated to explain what one sees in the series. I take as a reference again the final chapter, there is a scene of Mr. Milchick with a martial band dancing in the middle of the offices that does not make any kind of sense but at the same time it is incredible. That's Severance.

The characters are special because the actors do a great job. Tramell Tillman is extraordinary, his character is very complex, I still can't figure him out, he is an extremely strange guy that I have a feeling that at some point he will explode and we will see the real Mr. Michick. Patricia Arquette as Harmony Cobel is also a very good character, I hope her top moment of the series because we already know everything she has contributed to Lumon so that closure has to happen. I didn't mention the 4 main characters because their great contribution is more than known.

In general terms it is a series, in this case a season, that from the very first episode will catch you, there is no room for boredom and being more familiar with the whole environment the hook is total. This is a dystopian story, obviously, with a psychological and conspiracy thriller, there is drama, there is suspense, intrigue; all in one. I can say and without fear of exaggeration that Severance is easily top 3 of the best series of the last 10 years. It's been a long time since we've seen something like this. Do yourselves a favor and watch it because I feel it will soon be part of all pop culture to come.

All my family loved it so much I must admit maybe it's not my genre I didn't like but there is a very good cast and plot.

It usually happens. If you don't get hooked it can be a bit heavy. Undoubtedly the plot and the way it was developed is the best.

Best series of the last year for me easy. I liked the 2nd season more that the 1st and really look forward how it will continue. Looking at the image of the goat area, I do wonder if that mystery is now solved with the explaination that they are just a sacrifice that they make at lumon which would be quite unederwhelming or if there is a lot more to it.

Considering that season 3 is already confirmed I would think there is more under the rug. This second one was the preamble to what's really underneath even though we've already seen almost everyone who runs Limón.

The script is crazy, let's see what they come up with.
