El filme Belfast (2021) dirigido por Kenneth Branagh, nacido justamente en Belfast, Reino Unido. Comenzó su carrera en los años 80, pero su fama fue a finales de la década con “Enrique V” (1989), película por la que consiguió ser nominado al Oscar como mejor actor y director. De ahí en adelante siguió actuado y dirigiendo sin parar, logrando llamar la atención del mundo del entretenimiento con su puro talento y creatividad.
Ahora, ya conociendo quién dirigió tal pieza de arte, vamos a hablar del filme. Una obra que todos deben ver. Comencemos con el reparto: Caitríona Balfe, Jamie Dornan, Judi Dench y el debutante Jude Hill. El filme es autobiográfico, la infancia del director le marcó para siempre. En la década de los años 60 hubo un serio conflicto socio político y religioso en Belfast que provocó muchas muertes, persecuciones, detenciones y migración forzada.
La historia es en blanco y negro, con una soberbia actuación de la mítica Judi Dench quien con 87 años sigue dando batalla en el cine. Ahora bien, el protagonista es Buddy (Jude Hill) quien carga el peso de la historia en gran parte. Él vivía muy feliz en Belfast, como todo niño juega, corre, hace travesuras y se enamora de una niña. Pero el reciente y creciente conflicto en Belfast le hace una mala jugada, su familia debe debatirse entre quedarse y afrontar la realidad o huir en busca de un mejor futuro para todos.
Mientras todo esto ocurre, Buddy se une emocionalmente a sus abuelos (Judy Dench) y (Ciarán Hinds) quienes con sus historias logran crear un vínculo especial. Buddy sigue tratando de llevar una vida normal, pero los conflictos en este caso más religioso logran alcanzarle. Revolucionando su infancia, juegos, estudios, relaciones familiares y su primer amor.
Belfast me hizo recordar a Roma de Alfonso Cuarón, pero sin las tomas tan hermosas. En Belfast, el director apostó a lo lúdico en cuanto a la historia. Todo va de a poco, sin prisa pero con aciertos tan hermosos que el filme es extraordinario. Contado de forma sencilla, desde la cotidianidad que permitió un conflicto de tal magnitud. Su iluminación fue perfecta, la banda sonora exacta y las actuaciones a nivel.
Puedo seguir escribiendo sobre Belfast, pero ya saben que prefiero vean el filme. Saquen sus conclusiones, admiren una joya contada desde la niñez, la inocencia y el amor de un niño que sólo quería ser feliz en su ciudad natal sin otro conflicto que ir por sus sueños.

Belfast reminded me of Alfonso Cuaron's Roma, but without the beautiful shots. In Belfast, the director bet on the playfulness of the story. Everything goes slowly, unhurriedly but with such beautiful shots that the film is extraordinary. Told simply, from the everyday life that allowed a conflict of such magnitude. Its lighting was perfect, the soundtrack accurate, and the performances on the level.
I could go on writing about Belfast, but you know I'd rather watch the film. Draw your conclusions, admire a jewel told from the childhood, innocence, and love of a child who only wanted to be happy in his hometown with no other conflict than to go for his dreams.

Me cuesta ver películas en blanco y negro, a menos que sean filmes viejos que ya no hay nada que hacer... pero igual, creo que tocará verla.
