Madness is just the beginning.
In the Mouth of Madness John Carpenter's film (Master of Horror Movies) in 1994 made another horror masterpiece.
The film is also, to some extent, a tribute to the works of H.P. Lovecraft.
As for the visual side, it's a good movie, the special effects are done well and there are many practical effects here, John's style from the time of the Thing movie.
The film is very good in its plot, it is a combination of Noir cinema and horror, but one that only scares at the end of the film. Most of the story is a detective story. which might be reminiscent of Chinatown or other old-style movies.
A detective acting on his own, gets an order from a publisher because it turns out that a very well-read writer has suddenly disappeared.
The publisher does not know what to do because the writer does not give a sign of life for a long time, he asks the detective to find him or, if he is dead, confirm. He sets out with the editor to look for the writer, the trail leads to a small quiet town, which strangely resembles the writer Sutter Cain's books.
The longer the detective and editor are in town, the stranger things happen, the evil in the writer's last book.
A well-built horror film, not scary from the first minutes, but builds the right tension for the insanity in which the detective, and then the viewer, falls.
The finale is well thought out and shows the whole thing perfectly, breaking the fourth wall. I watched the film as a child and today, after a dozen or so years, this production is still well realized.
Many scenes and dialogues are unforgettable.
Although the film is about strange writers, it can also be compared to Stephen King and the number of his books. Carpenter made a movie worth paying attention to, no nonsense.
The storyline is well guided until an interesting finale, which surprises the viewer as well. The music is performed correctly and the intro songs sound like Metallica.
Interesting fact, in several scenes on the bike, the director and creator of this film, John Carpneter, appears in his gray hair.

The creators of the game Call of Cthulu from 2005 modeled on this film, creating the game, there are many similarities between the film and the game, of course, not as big as in the last Resident Evil and the Frankenstein's Armies.
