Junji Ito collection Review

in Movies & TV Shows3 years ago (edited)

Hello and welcome to read my short review on the anime series related to the work of Junji ito. Junji Ito Collection consists of 12 episodes of 24 minutes of anime full of grotesque and even Lovecrat-like atmosphere, each also takes place in the same universe. In each episode there are two things that are not commonly related to each other.

1 episode is getting to know Souchi who loves nails and dolls. He has certain skills that they exercise with peers in the class suddenly disappear

He can manipulate the surroundings and swim to them, but he is also quick-tempered and extremely funny when he makes a mistake. The whole story with Souchi consists of three different episodes where we learn about his various activities in elementary school, from burying one of the students to making rag dolls of teachers who talked and ending with gossip. The whole story from the anthology is also the calmest and the most humorous, although the grotesque and macabre is around, the main character makes us laugh with clumsiness. The story is addictive and thanks to that we will remember it for a long time.

Another story that I think is worth paying attention to is about the new neighbor. The young boy decides to discover who the mysterious new neighbor is, but it is only at night that he discovers the terrifying truth. I remember the famous "Boy, Boy, a little more and I will be able to knock on your window and then open it for me." I watched it yesterday and I felt somehow strange; D the atmosphere from this episode is quite big, we have stories that seem simple, the ending causes shivers on the back.
Unfortunately, I have not read Junja Ito's work and I only base my knowledge of anime, which I watched with great curiosity.

Anime touches on various things like privacy, incest, homicide and jealousy in an appropriately macabre way.
Another episode worth attention is the privacy one. Well done, showing that the main character does not have even a second of privacy and is constantly watched by their family and everyone around them, an interesting and strong message because currently our privacy is disappearing, additionally someone is hunting the main character. Happy ending in episodes rarely occurs, always ends suddenly as if someone shouted, just let the viewer tell you. The only exception is the episode about privacy, which on the one hand gives a positive ending, on the other hand, we as a viewer can take it very negatively, it depends on looking at the last sequence;)

I mentioned incest and there is a strong reference here and the episode about oil. A young girl lives with her brother and father in a small house where her brother drinks oil and drinks in such quantities that she slowly begins to change. A strong and ambiguous episode because many scenes are actually sexualization of the hero. It is worth watching how this episode full of oil and pimples ends. In 12 episodes we get a whole misha of macabre and an atmosphere torn alive from Lovecraft's prose, from crawling rows of skulls to a murderous tree and ending with the world's ugliest model who likes to snack on herself.

Jealousy can refer to the episode with Tomie, where the title Tomie wants to look perfect, whether in a picture or as a sculpture, but no artist can cope with such beauty, which turns on jealousy. Although this anime does not reject this line, you can get used to the slightly strange eyes and behavior of the characters. The heroes have all kinds of adventures, they will meet strange characters only to die in an unbelievable way. This is my first contact with anime in 15 years and it made a ravishing impression on me. I absorbed these 12 episodes like oxygen during a pandemic;)

Now, after the anime, I have an even greater desire to read the manga because you can see that here only the germ of strange has been placed And the evil sits deeper. Unfortunately, the anime is not with a voiceover and only the subtitles remain. Nevertheless, I recommend it with a clear conscience because horror is bigger here than in many super-production;)
