There is much that has been said about this subgenre of metal, especially the events that occurred in Norway, documentaries, and books have been made to show us what at first was extreme music and that turned out to be a tragedy.
Black metal is a genre of music that was born in the 80's, Norwegian bands like Mayhem and Burzum were the pioneers and also the main focus of this film.
The film shows us a lot of misfits who, despite listening to marginalized music, were upper-middle-class like most families in Norway. The main characters are Euronymous and Varg Vikernes, legends of the genre who created the basis for an entire musical genre.
Es mucho de lo que se ha hablado de este subgénero del metal en especial de los eventos ocurridos en Noruega, documentales y libros se han hecho para mostrarnos lo que en un principio fue música que extrema y que resulto como una tragedia.
El black metal es un género de música que nació en los 80’s, bandas en noruega como Mayhem y Burzum fueron las pioneras y también el foco principal de esta película.
El film nos muestra un montón de chicos inadaptados que a pesar de escuchar música marginada eran de clase media-alta como la mayoría de familias en Noruega. Los personajes principales son Euronymous y Varg Vikernes, leyendas del género que crearon la base para todo un género musical.
Euronymous was a rebellious boy who pretended to spread evil and chaos through music even saying that he wishes people would commit suicide by listening to his music. At first we can see the band's rehearsals at their house and then another boy from Sweden nicknamed Dead decides to join them. This boy was quite depressed and socially maladjusted, he buried his clothes in the ground to give a more deadly presence on stage, he cut off his arms and other paraphernalia which made the band look like a dark and visceral show.
Dead, soon commits suicide, cutting his arms, neck and finally shoots himself with a shotgun. Euronymous decides to take advantage of this fact by taking photos of the corpse, turning that image into the cover of an album that went down in history as the most gore of all time.
Burning of churches, subversive acts and others we can appreciate in this film that in a certain way de-romanticizes the legend of this story by making the members of the band see as only misfits and not as dark demons as fans usually see them.
Euronymous era un chico rebelde que pretendía esparcir la maldad y el caos a través de la música incluso diciendo que desearía que las personas se suicidaran al escuchar su música. Al principio podemos ver ensayos de la banda en su casa y luego otro chico de Suecia apodado Dead decide unírseles. Este chico era bastante depresivo e inadaptado socialmente, enterraba su ropa en la tierra para dar una presencia más mortífera en el escenario, se cortaba los brazos y demás parafernalia lo que hacía ver a la banda como un espectáculo oscuro y visceral.
Dead no tarda en suicidarse, cortándose brazos, cuello y finalmente se dispara con una escopeta. Euronymous decide tomar ventaja de este hecho tomándole fotos al cadáver convirtiendo esa imagen en la portada de un álbum que paso a la historia como la más gore de todos los tiempos.
Quema de iglesias, actos subversivos y demás podemos apreciar en esta película que de cierta manera desromantiza la leyenda de esta historia haciendo ver a los integrantes de la banda como solo unos desadaptados y no como unos demonios oscuros como suelen verlos los fans.
It must be taken into account that all these events were perpetuated by boys between 15 and 25 years old and the events that appear in this film are probably closer to the reality of how the living members of these bands tell it. Despite everything, it is still an interesting story, the events definitely went very far, leading to the praxis of lyrics and extreme music to acts of vandalism.
After the burning of numerous churches, the group was in the crosshairs of the police. Varg Vikernes and Euronymous disputed the power of a group of extremists called Inner Circle, Satanists, and anti-Christians. Varg, unlike the other members, had a fondness for National Socialism and Odinism, which made him even more dangerous.
Hay que tomar en cuenta que todos estos hechos fueron perpetuados por chicos de entre 15 y 25 años y los hechos que aparecen en este film probablemente sean más cercanos a la realidad de cómo lo cuentan los integrantes vivos de estas bandas. A pesar de todo sigue siendo una historia interesante, los hechos definitivamente llegaron muy lejos, llevando a la praxis las letras y la música extrema a actos vandálicos.
Después de la quema de numerosas iglesias el grupo estaba en la mira de la policía. Varg Vikernes y Euronymous se disputaban el poder de un grupo de extremistas llamado Inner Circle, satanistas y anticristianos. Varg a diferencia de los demás integrantes, tenía afición por el nacionalsocialismo y odinismo lo que lo convirtió en un ser aún más peligroso.
The murder of Euronymous by Vikernes is a widely known fact in the metal world. More than twenty stab wounds were perpetuated in Euronymous' body causing Varg to be soon put in prison for more than twenty years (the highest penalty in Norway).
The facts are not there and there is much more to tell when you finish documenting yourself and watching the film, being something regrettable about how fragile minds can commit such acts. The world of extreme metal is not about vandalizing or murder or worship, it is about a dark reflection towards the depths of human decadence, making a musical and visual shock an act of rebellion and climax, hence the power. of extreme music.
El asesinato de Euronymous por parte de Vikernes es un hecho ampliamente conocido en el mundo del metal. Más de veinte puñaladas fueron perpetuadas en el cuerpo de Euronymous haciendo que pronto Varg fuera puesto en prisión por más de veinte años (siendo la pena más alta en Noruega).
Los hechos no quedan allí y hay mucho más que contar al terminar de documentarse y de ver la película siendo algo lamentable de como unas mentes frágiles pueden llegar a cometer semejantes actos. El mundo del metal extremo no se trata de vandalizar ni de asesinatos ni adoración, se trata de una reflexión oscura hacia lo más profundo de la decadencia humana, haciendo de un shock musical y visual un acto de rebeldía y clímax, de allí radica el poder de la música extrema.
The need to create a milestone in history was what led these guys to perform all these acts that remain in the minds of many today. Music will never be to blame for such events, but rather the previously deranged minds of a few. The extreme and the dark are only one of the many trends and forms of art not only in music but also in literature and cinema and should not therefore be judged as guilty of barbarism.
Everyone can take art as they please, since it is something subjective and abstract, but bringing a massacre to reality is an act that can only be perpetuated by a person who already had tendencies to have mental disorders.
La necesidad de crear un hito en la historia fue lo que condujo a estos chicos a realizar todos estos actos que permanecen en la mente de muchos en la actualidad. La música nunca será la culpable de que sucedan este tipo de hechos sino la mente previamente trastornada de unos pocos. Lo extremo y lo oscuro solo son una de las muchas tendencias y formas de arte no solo en la música sino en la literatura y el cine y no por ello deben ser juzgadas como las culpables de una barbarie.
Cada quien puede tomar como plazca el arte, ya que es algo subjetivo y abstracto pero llevar a la realidad una masacre es un acto que solo puede ser perpetuado por una persona que ya tenía tendencias a tener trastornos mentales.
Personally, I support any type of art, human expression should not be limited only to positive emotions but also pain, sadness, anger since they are part of us as humans and we can learn to channel all those emotions through artistic creation or perception.
In conclusion, a quite entertaining film that shows us real events of a story that is not known in the mainstream but in the underground environment. If you are interested in this type of music or you just want to see a movie with touches of terror and even humor, do not hesitate to keep an eye on it, however, it can be difficult to see for a person unfamiliar with this type of music.
En lo personal apoyo cualquier tipo de arte, la expresión humana no debe limitarse solo a emociones positivas sino también dolor, tristeza, ira ya que son partes de nosotros como humanidad y podemos aprender a canalizar todas esas emociones a través de la creación o percepción artística.
En conclusión una película bastante entretenida que nos muestra hechos reales de una historia que no es conocida en el mainstream sino en el ambiente underground. Si estas interesado en este tipo de música o solo quieres ver una película con toques de terror y hasta humor no dudes de echarle ojo, sin embargo puede ser difícil de ver para una persona no familiarizada con este tipo de música.

Esa es la parte que mas impresiona, saber que todo eso fue real. Es una historia que yo ya conocía desde mi adolescencia. La película en si puede llegar a ser medio ridícula en ciertos momentos pero los hechos que ocurrieron fueron una salvajada y vale la pena prestarle atención un poco. Gracias por leer hermano !!
