La película tiene un objetivo más allá, no solo el hacer reír y pasar un buen rato a los espectadores sino llevarlos a una buena reflexión por medio de este personaje Jack McCall (Eddie Murphy) que habla mucho y muy rápido, diría yo, hasta por los codos, es un famoso agente de ventas de una editorial de libros, que puede convencer a cualquiera de cerrar un trato. Él busca que esta editorial compre los derechos comerciales del libro de un gurú de la Nueva Era el Dr. Sinja (Cliff Curtis) en el cual ha puesto los ojos para sus propios beneficios. Jack va a conversar con el Dr. Sinja para convencerle y se pincha con la astilla de un árbol boddhi. El Dr. Sinja ve las intenciones egoístas de Jack, acepta el trato, pero le dará una lección a Jack.
Cuando Jack llega a su casa, empieza como de costumbre las discusiones con su esposa Caroline (Kerry Washington), sienten un temblor, después de esto él puede notar que el árbol de Bodhi aparece en el patio de su casa, y le pregunta al jardinero si él plantó eso ahí, pero no lo hizo él. Cada vez que decía una palabra caía una hoja y Jack se percata de este incidente a partir del día siguiente. Jack busca reclamarle al Dr. Sinja y es cuando empieza la trama de esta película a transcurrir. Jack tiene un asistente que le va a ayudando, pero no logra conseguir la solución para que dejen de caerse las hojas, empieza a comunicarse con señas, ruidos fuertes, pero no es entendido por lo demás, y comienza a tener serios problemas en la familia, en el trabajo, en todo lugar por no poderse comunicar con las palabras.
Jack comienza a reflexionar como va su vida, sus relaciones interpersonales, qué ha sido lo más importante para él hasta ese momento y como desplazó a un lado lo que realmente debió haber sido lo más importante en su vida.
Esta película me lleva a la reflexión que muchas veces colocamos el trabajo como centro de nuestras vidas, nuestros intereses, metas y objetivo pasan a ser lo más importante en nuestra mente y corazón, a veces hasta toca llevarnos a las personas por el medio, sin importar lo que pueden causar nuestras palabras y
acciones.
El árbol pasó a representar el alma de Jack, cada vez que pronunciaba una palabra caía una hoja, y se dio cuenta que al caer la última hoja moriría. ¿Cuántas palabras en la vida nos llevan a la muerte espiritual? ¿Cuántas malas palabras han llenado nuestra mente y corazón de malos pensamientos y malos sentimientos? ¿Cuántas palabras vacías han hecho de nuestro corazón un lugar vacío? El tiempo perdido ya no vuelve, ya el pasado no existe, y el futuro tampoco, lo que existe es el presente y es el que nos toca vivir. Muchas veces he escuchado que un gesto vale más que mil palabras, porque también se dice que las palabras se las lleva el viento, este es el “HOY”, el mejor momento para ser feliz, para amar a nuestra familia, para dar lo mejor en nuestros trabajo sin dejar de ser nosotros mismos y sin llevarnos a nadie por el medio para lograr el éxito.
Debemos aprender que muchas veces vale más un silencio que mil palabras, debemos saber controlarnos, dejar que los demás se expresen, el trato que tenemos con los demás, lo que habla la boca es de lo que está lleno el corazón dijo Jesucristo en su Palabra, muchas veces podemos ser como Jack vender nuestras ideas, nuestras formas de pensar, lograr cerrar cualquier trato como sea sin saber que siente o piensa las personas con las que nos relacionamos.
Podemos comunicarnos también con los gestos, con un abrazo, una hermosa sonrisa, con las lágrimas, escribiendo un bello poema, tocando una armonía con un instrumento.
Somos como el árbol, tenemos raíces que fueron sembradas desde nuestra niñez, en nuestra familia y colegio, vamos creciendo, fortaleciendo nuestro tronco con valores, debemos nutrirnos con buenas enseñanzas para que nuestras ramas crezcan fuertemente con muchas hojas y podamos dar sombra a los demás, que se sientan agradados de nuestra presencia, pero si sembramos raíces en terreno de antivalores y malos sentimientos, nos secaremos por dentro y nuestras hojas caerán.
Algún día se caerá nuestra última hoja, ojalá que cuando nos llegue el día de la muerte nos recuerden como buenas personas que supimos respetar la dignidad de las personas, amando y siendo generosos, que los demás se sientan agradados con la sombra que el árbol de nuestra vida dio, sobre todo queden los frutos.
