Es una película de fantasía de 2009, conocida en Latinoamérica como “Donde Viven los Monstruos”. Esta basada en el cuento infantil de Maurice Sendak del mismo nombre, y fue dirigida por Spike Jonze.

Max es un niño imaginativo, juguetón y travieso, como muchos otros, tiene grandes lazos con su madre, ya que su padre murió, y con su hermana adolescente, aunque esto a decayó producto a la diferencia de edad. Al descubrir que su madre tiene un novio, huye de casa y llega a la isla de los monstruos. Donde vivirá aventuras y entenderá algo mas sobre el mundo que lo rodea.

Esta película la vi de pequeña, casi iniciando la adolescencia, desde ese momento le tome aprecio. La verdad estaba buscando que ver con mis sobrinos mas cercanos, alli encontré nuevamente esta cinta y no pude evitar llenarme de nostalgia, así que quise compartir con ellos algo de eso. Aunque no negare, esta vez la vi con otros ojos, ya mas adulta y mas consiente. Sin embargo, me sigue cautivando.
Max es un niño bueno, a pesar de ser impulsivo y travieso, se preocupa por su familia y amigos, esta experimentando el mundo a su alrededor, el cual esta lleno de cambios e inquietudes difíciles de describir, lo que lo frustra en gran medida, por ello termina haciendo cosas que no están bien, llevándolo a este recorrido por sus emociones donde reflexionara, sobre si mismo y lo que quiere de verdad.
El filme es simbólico en gran parte, se trata del crecimiento emocional de un niño, la madures y la aceptación de los cambios propios de la edad. Cada monstruo representa una o varias emociones del pequeño, tanto malas como buenas. Max tendrá que confrontarlas para poder avanzar y abrirse al mundo.
Al llegar al mundo de los monstruos, Max se autoproclama su rey y entabla relaciones con cada uno de ellos. El grupo vive grandes aventuras, juegan y planean la construcción de una fortaleza, para que todos vivan juntos. El monstruo que mas resalta es Carol, que representa su miedo a estar solo o al abandono, Carol es el primero con el que Max interactúa y al poco tiempo se vuelven grandes amigos. Es una alegoría, pues, ese fue el motivo que lo llevo a escapar de su hogar, ya que tiene miedo de perder el amor de su madre o la compañía que ella ofrece, así como con su hermana que al tener nuevos amigos se distancio de él. Claro, sus acciones están infundadas, pero son miedos comunes de cualquier niño en su situación, creo que todos al ser pequeños nos llegamos a plantear algo parecido, pensado erróneamente que el lazo con nuestra familia es mas débil de lo que es.
El también convive mucho con K.W, quien seria el cariño y la amistad entre sus sentimientos, ella le enseña varias cosas como la importancia de conocer nuevas personas y abrirse a las experiencias, también le muestra lo errado que esta el discurso de Carol, quien se niega a compartir el amor. El cariño le permite al pequeño, entender sus errores, además a aceptar que no puede dominar o reinar sobre sus monstruos, es decir, sus emociones, pues necesita el apoyo de su familia, especialmente su madre para hacerlo. Para este momento Max ya no tiene ningún refugio al cual huir, lo que impulsa al niño madurar y abrirse al mundo.
La cinta también profundiza sobre la responsabilidad de nuestras acciones y la empatía. Max es un niño y como la mayoría de ellos, es inconscientes de sus actos. Sin embargo, es propio del crecimiento comenzar a entender esos hechos, además de comprender los sentimientos de quien nos rodea y el daño que podemos hacer. Al mismo tiempo, muestra como afrontamos la culpa, desde que sentimos esa emoción de malestar, hasta que pedimos perdón al ofendido.
En una escena, el grupo entero juegan a lanzarse tierra, y Alexander es herido. Sin embargo, ninguno muestra piedad de él, incluso Max que se ve reflejado en esa situación, no se detiene. Esto es un paralelismo pues, en el inicio es Max quien se siente de esa misma manera, ya que los amigos de su hermana fueron muy bruscos con él. Después de hablar con Alexander, que es su miedo a ser invisible o rechazado, entiende sus actos y la importancia de pensar en otros. Esto es interesante pues muestra, la facilidad con la que transmitimos, en especial los niños, las malas experiencias hacia otros, volviéndolo un circulo vicioso, si es que alguien no hace nada para detenerlo.
De forma general esta película trata de los cambios y la madurez que debemos enfrentar en la niñez. Cosa con la que podemos empatizar perfectamente con el protagonista, pues todos en algún momento enfrentamos dudas iguales, ya sea en mayor o menor medida, incluso en cualquier parte de nuestra vida, los cambios son agobiantes, no solo en la niñez, y esta bien es parte de la vida, así como también esta bien pedir ayuda o no sentirse preparado, el miedo es una de las emociones mas naturales del ser humano. Sin embargo, esto no puede o debe limitarnos.
La actuación de Max Records fue muy buena, teniendo en cuanta la edad y que en gran parte de la película tiene que dialogar con animatrónicos o actores disfrazados, demuestra su nivel actoral y que supo trabajar con el materia que tenia. Los aspectos técnicos en general están bien, creo que lo que causa algo disgusto son los monstruos, las técnicas que usaron para dar vida estas criaturas no están mal según la época. Sin embargo, entiendo el choque que puede causar, aunque a mi en lo particular no me molesta.
Sin duda recomiendo esta película, es para todo publico, si tienes hijos o convives con niños pequeños, es excelente si quieres de cierta forma entender el pensamiento de un infante ante algunas situaciones.

I saw this movie when I was a child, almost starting adolescence, from that moment I took appreciation. The truth was looking for something to watch with my closest nephews, there I found again this tape and I could not help but be filled with nostalgia, so I wanted to share with them some of that. Although I will not deny, this time I saw it with different eyes, more adult and more conscious. However, it still captivates me.
Max is a good boy, despite being impulsive and mischievous, he cares about his family and friends, he is experiencing the world around him, which is full of changes and concerns difficult to describe, which frustrates him greatly, so he ends up doing things that are not right, leading him to this journey through his emotions where he will reflect on himself and what he really wants.
The film is largely symbolic, it is about a child's emotional growth, maturity and acceptance of the changes that come with age. Each monster represents one or more of the child's emotions, both bad and good. Max will have to confront them in order to move forward and open up to the world.
Upon arriving in the world of the monsters, Max proclaims himself their king and establishes a relationship with each of them. The group has great adventures, they play and plan the construction of a fortress, so that they can all live together. The monster that stands out the most is Carol, who represents his fear of being alone or abandonment, Carol is the first one with whom Max interacts and soon they become great friends. It is an allegory, because that was the reason that led him to run away from home, as he is afraid of losing his mother's love or the company she offers, as well as with his sister who, having new friends, distanced herself from him. He also lives a lot with K.W., who would be the love and friendship among his feelings, she teaches him several things like the importance of meeting new people and open to experiences, also shows him how wrong Carol's speech is, who refuses to share love. The affection allows the little boy to understand his mistakes, and to accept that he cannot dominate or reign over his monsters, that is, his emotions, because he needs the support of his family, especially his mother to do so. This is interesting because it shows how easily we, especially children, pass on bad experiences to others, turning it into a vicious circle, if someone does nothing to stop it.
In general, this film is about the changes and maturity that we must face in childhood. Something with which we can perfectly empathize with the protagonist, because we all at some point face the same doubts, either to a greater or lesser extent, even in any part of our lives, the changes are overwhelming, not only in childhood, and it's okay is part of life, as well as it is also okay to ask for help or not feel prepared, fear is one of the most natural emotions of human beings. However, this cannot or should not limit us.
Max Records' performance was very good, considering his age and the fact that in most of the movie he has to dialogue with animatronics or costumed actors, it shows his acting level and that he knew how to work with the material he had. The technical aspects in general are fine, I think what causes some displeasure are the monsters, the techniques used to give life to these creatures are not bad according to the time. However, I understand the shock it can cause, although to me in particular it does not bother me.
I definitely recommend this movie, it is for all audiences, if you have children or live with small children, it is excellent if you want to understand the thinking of an infant in some situations.

Aww qué bonito encontrarse con una reseña de esta película, yo soy muy fan de las adaptaciones de historias fantásticas y esta es una de esas que vale la pena mantener viva generación tras generación.
Entiendo la forma en que percibiste la película al retomarla en tu adultez, nos pasa mucho que la forma de procesar una historia, una imagen, un mensaje, cambia no solo con la edad y la madurez sino también según las experiencias que vamos acumulando a lo largo de nuestra vida, yo creo que a los adultos nos ayudaría mucho retomar estas historias de vez en cuando y ver qué en las acciones simples y vivencias de pequeños encontramos muchas veces las respuestas a nuestros dramas y complicaciones de adultos, a fin de cuentas esto lo escribió alguien mayor después de haber superado quién sabe qué situación.

Exactamente es hermoso, en mi caso revivi un poco de mi infancia ademas que entendi muchos de los dramas que ignoraba en ese momento. Es interesante darle nuevas perspectivas a nuestra niñez, nos ayuda a ver el paso del tiempo y lo mucho que hemos avanzado.
