It's another week and whole new set of recommendations to share with the community. It has been a bit of a fast and busy week for me, days feeling shorter and a bit of a struggle to juggle all the responsibilities and little moments of life alongside watching things and getting these Hive obligations out of the way, but I wanted to stick with the routine I set out with the first post in which I recommended a few things that I had been watching as of late and would recommend. I had the idea of ensuring these recommendations wouldn't be too niche, though with this one, I feel it might be leaning a bit too much to specific genres. But either way, there might be some here that find something interesting!
Before getting into the recommendations I would like to highlight a part of this post to recent community announcement regarding our efforts to build up the community account's Hive Power, and what you could potentially do to contribute to the community and aid its improved curation and engagement efforts! Let's get into the fun stuff, next!
- Civil War
The screenwriter of 28 Days Later brings us a cinematic, action-packed anxious look into the (less) United States of America during a civil war, as we follow the dangerous lives of photojournalists through different states as they aim to capture the reality of these events. This is a film that any photographer should enjoy, and looks at the hard lives of those who roam the lands in search of stories that aren't always so positive. Showing the world the unfortunate realities during such troubled times. Beautifully shot, and with plenty of meaning to it.
- When Evil Lurks
I know, I know, it isn't Halloween. But I couldn't help myself when I stumbled across an Argentinian horror film that looks into a world in which demons possess and spread across a remote environment, leading to the frantic attempts to survive for a few families. The film relies on suspense, immersive cinematography, and the eerie nature of never knowing who you could trust in the event that some entity controls their body. Imagine getting a phone call from a loved one after moments prior witnessing them being hit by a car, now hearing them tell you they're coming to get the kids. Spooky stuff!
- The Fall Guy
This is a film that didn't perform all that well in the box office, and became a bit of a symbol for the troubled world of the cinema industry as it failed to gain the traction it hoped. A sign that things aren't all that healthy as people continue to avoid cinemas and rely on streaming services and the comfort of their own homes. I actually really enjoyed The Fall Guy for its narrative on the love for storytelling, and how cinema is a massive connection of hundreds of people coming together to produce something beautiful. To share with the world the stories that are usually a result of a person's own experiences, influences, and coping mechanisms. Mixed in is action, a whole lot of stunts, and a love story.
- The Ghosts Above
Not so much a film or television show, but a free documentary available on YouTube released by Sony Alpha. An incredibly cinematic story on how a few filmmakers and passionate climbers aim to find one of the first people to attempt to reach Mount Everest's summit about a century ago. A body that was never found. Narration that immerses us into the struggles of trying to climb the mountain, while holding a huge respect for it. Understanding the culture of those that consider this mountain a God, and what it means to reach the summit. Do you claim conquer over a God, or refuse to reach the very peak in honour of the lives lost trying to climb it, and its power over the mind as something that requires years of preparation for many.
Hopefully you managed to find something interesting here! It was a tough week for me in which I really struggled with finding things to watch as well as the time for them. Though I had a lot of fun watching these, and hope you all do too. Decide to check one of these out? Post your reviews and share your thoughts with the community! Until next week, take care and happy watching!
The Fall Guy caught my attention, I'll keep it in mind to watch that film 😀
Hi. I saw Guerra Civil and I found incredible that tranquility that a war photographer must have, at times it seemed to me that it was impossible so much apathy, but it is necessary for the work they do.
When evil lurks, I wanted to see it, but I am very lazy and I do not watch horror movies alone, I must be accompanied. But I have it on my list, I want to see it.
It's not because it's Argentine (or yes), but When Evil Lurks is a great horror movie. I'm glad you were able to see it, I'm still disturbed by the scene with the dog and the girl.
It's the first, I think, film from Argentina I have seen. It was a great surprise. I loved the suspense.
It's not a movie I want to see, but I have certain expectations regarding the action scenes in The Fall Guy.
Civil War I had the opportunity to see it last week and it is very good, I really liked the story of a war from the point of view of people who live to capture the horror that happens in those events and how it may or may not affect them. This is the first movie I've seen released this year that makes me want to see it again.
I had little interest in The Fall Guy when it was released too, it seemed like everything I wouldn't be interested in, but it really did surprise me. It's pretty much a film about the love of filmmaking, but they threw in some love drama and some crime stuff to make it a bit more interesting and mix things up so it isn't essentially just stunt man version of La La Land.
"Civil War" is a quality work I expected from Alex Garland. To me it always seemed it had something to do with the Guns n' Roses song. The movie is just packed with actors of that generation. Not to say anything about references such as Charlottesville. In my view it is like Gen X saying to Gen Z, "this is what we can tell you about preserving democracy and civil liberties, good luck!"
I've seen two out of four and I liked them, so I trust in your judgement about the other two. Keep on doing this good job!
