Hoy quisiera compartir una reseña, bueno sin ser realmente una, es en realidad una recomendación de una película animada española que tuve el placer de ver hace unos años y es una verdadera joya. Basada en la novela gráfica del mismo nombre por Paco Roca y dirigida por Ignacio Ferreras, con las actuaciones de Tacho González (Emilio), Álvaro Guevara (Miguel), Mabel Rivera (Antonia) y Antonio Salazar (Eustaquio); les quiero presentar Arrugas, ¡espero que disfruten!

Today I would like to share a review, well without being really one, it is actually a recommendation of a Spanish animated film that I had the pleasure of watching a few years ago and it is a real gem. Based on the graphic novel of the same name by Paco Roca and directed by Ignacio Ferreras, starring Tacho González (Emilio), Álvaro Guevara (Miguel), Mabel Rivera (Antonia) and Antonio Salazar (Eustaquio); I would like to introduce you to Arrugas, I hope you enjoy!
Sinopsis
La historia cuenta los lazos de amistad que se crean en un asilo para ancianos, entre Emilio y Miguel. El primero padece los primeros síntomas de la enfermedad del Alzheimer, por lo que el segundo le echará una mano, para que éste no acabe en la segunda planta del lugar, allí donde llevan a los asistidos o "desahuciados" como los llaman los internos. Su divertido plan añadirá algo de salsa a una triste y aburrida vida, de la que algunos piensan que se ha acabado, pero para otros solo acaba de comenzar. Sin embargo, Emilio poco a poco comienza a perderse en los oscuros pasadizos de su memoria y a confundir la realidad convirtiéndola en extrañeza.
Synopsis
The story tells the story of the bonds of friendship that are created in a nursing home for the elderly, between Emilio and Miguel. The former suffers the first symptoms of Alzheimer's disease, so the latter will lend him a hand, so that he does not end up on the second floor of the place, where they take the assisted or "evicted" as the inmates call them. Their amusing plan will add some spice to a sad and boring life, which some people think is over, but for others it has only just begun. However, Emilio gradually begins to lose himself in the dark passages of his memory and to confuse reality by turning it into strangeness.
Podría decirse que es un recuento de la vida de un grupo de personas de la tercera edad en un asilo, es curioso, es común que se piense que una vez entrando en la vejez no hay vuelta atrás y que somos incapaces de vivir una vida plena, especialmente cuando la sociedad intenta fingir que una vez alcanzada cierta edad ya no eres útil y por ende es mejor esperar la muerte. Creo que la manera en que la película maneja la vejez y en especial la enfermedad del Alzheimer es lo que más me conmueve, no aborda a los temas de una manera condescendiente para que el espectador sienta piedad, más bien crea personajes humanos y carismáticos que logran que me inmersa en sus historias, esperando un buen final para cada uno de ellos.
La reacción de Emilio para el Alzheimer me pareció perfectamente natural, nadie quiere aceptar que se está enfermo, y aún más considerando que es alguien que solía tener un trabajo tradicionalmente respetado en la sociedad y de un estilo de vida independiente, verse en una situación donde tus facultades cognitivas van empeorando y ser dependiente de otras personas es estresante e incluso para alguien orgulloso como Emilio, humillante. Su caracterización de ser alguien negativo a aceptar lentamente la vida me pareció de lo más interesante de la película. Y luego tenemos a Miguel, creo que uno de los personajes del reparto en tener más cambios significativos, que me abstendré de decir puesto que sería genial que lo descubriesen. Podemos ver como a raíz de la convivencia, lentamente se forma una fuerte amistad entre ellos y otros de los habitantes del asilo que sin duda alguna vale la pena atestiguar.
Emilio's reaction to Alzheimer's seemed perfectly natural to me, no one wants to accept that they are sick, and even more so considering that he is someone who used to have a traditionally respected job in society and an independent lifestyle, to find yourself in a situation where your cognitive faculties are getting worse and being dependent on other people is stressful and even, for someone as proud as Emilio, humiliating. I found his characterization from being someone negative to slowly accepting life to be one of the most interesting in the film. And then we have Miguel, I think one of the characters in the cast to have more significant changes, which I will refrain from saying since it would be great to be discovered. We can see how as a result of living together, a strong friendship slowly forms between them and other inhabitants of the asylum that is definitely worth witnessing.
La película trata de una forma muy respetuosa el Alzheimer, no lo hace el foco principal de la trama ni lo usa como un arma de manipulación emocional para el espectador,la trata como lo que es, una enfermedad que la podría padecer cualquiera y es empática tanto para la persona que la tiene como para sus allegados, diría que la película lograr de manera acertada manejar los momentos dramáticos, cómicos y emotivos sin ningún problema; así como presenta a personajes encantadores en situaciones entretenidas y diálogos ingeniosos que brillan sin la necesidad de una variedad en los ambientes. El diseño de los personajes es muy similar al de la novela gráfica, siendo los diseños distintivos y atractivos a la vista, cada personaje tiene unas características específicas que los hacen únicos a los demás; la paleta de colores es agradable y si bien hay una simplicidad en los fondos, creo que estos se adecuan al diseño general del filme. De igual manera, creo que la actuación de voz (a pesar de mi ignorancia en comparación a otros en el tema), es bastante disfrutable.
Así que si desean ver un slice of life con personajes carismáticos, una historia agradable y diálogos divertidos, denle una oportunidad a este filme español.

The film treats Alzheimer's in a very respectful way, it does not make it the main focus of the plot or use it as a weapon of emotional manipulation for the viewer, it treats it as it is, a disease that could be suffered by anyone and is empathetic to both the person who has it and their loved ones, I would say that the film manages to handle the dramatic, comic and emotional moments without any problem; as well as presenting charming characters in entertaining situations and witty dialogues that shine without the need for variety in the environments. The character design is very similar to that of the graphic novel, with the designs being distinctive and appealing to the eye; each character has specific characteristics that make them unique from the others; the color palette is pleasing and while there is a simplicity to the backgrounds, I think they suit the overall design of the film. Likewise, I think the voice acting (despite my ignorance compared to others on the subject), is quite enjoyable.
So if you want to see a slice of life with charismatic characters, an enjoyable story and funny dialogue, give this Spanish film a chance.
