Hello friends, today I want to tell you about a film that its world premiere was in 2017. It is a film based on real events. A story of love, courage and struggle to overcome obstacles, cultural, social and racial, in a time when it was inconceivable for a black man to fall in love with a white woman, both in Europe and in Africa this was not well seen or accepted. This film went unnoticed by the public, it is the story of the African Prince Seretse Khama, who was destined to become "King".

Una historia de amor, coraje y lucha para superar obstáculos, culturales, sociales y raciales, en una época en donde era inconcebible que un hombre negro se enamorara de una mujer blanca, tanto en Europa como en África esto no era bien visto o aceptado. Esta película pasó desapercibida para él público, es la historia del Príncipe africano Seretse Khama, quién estaba destinado a convertirse en “Rey”.
In 1940 Seretse, was to become head (kgosi), of the Bamangwato tribe, of the then British Protectorate Bechuanaland (now Botswana), in Africa.
But before taking office, he went to study law at Oxford University, to be better prepared to assume his responsibilities as king. What I can't imagine is that this trip would change his life forever. While studying he met a missionary named Muriel Williams, with whom he became friends in 1947, at a party he introduced her to her sister, Ruth Williams.

Ruth was a secretary for an insurance company, middle class. From the first moment they met, something arose between him and Ruth, and although they tried to avoid it and be just friends, they couldn't. They continued to see each other at social gatherings, and in private. It was love at first sight; their closest friends would tell. But from the first moment they saw each other, their lives would never be the same.

An interracial relationship in 1948 was almost impossible at that time. They fought against the British government, their families and the press, to have the right to be happy and make their dreams come true. They got married having everything against them. Seretse returned to Africa to take his place as king and leader of his tribe, but had to face his uncle; the man who raised him and loved him like a son.
Una relación interracial en 1948, era casi imposible en esa época. Lucharon contra el gobierno británico, sus familias y la prensa, para tener el derecho a ser felices y hacer sus sueños realidad. Se casaron teniendo todo en contra de ellos. Seretse retornó a áfrica para tomar su lugar como rey y líder de su tribu, pero debió enfrentarse contra su tío; el hombre que lo crio y amó como a un hijo.
Seretse and Ruth due to political pressure from both Africa and the United Kingdom, were separated for 6 years, when Seretse went to defend his case in London, he was not allowed to return to Africa with his wife, nor could he see his first child born. Still they fought through thick and thin to get together again.
Seretse y Ruth por presiones políticas tanto de África como del Reino Unido, estuvieron separados por 6 años, cuando Seretse fue a defender su caso a Londres no se le permito regresar a África al lado de su esposa, ni pudo ver nacer a su primer hijo. Aun así lucharon contra viento y marea para lograr estar juntos de nuevo.
Seretse was a man ahead of his time and the time in which he lived, he had progressive ideas where racial segregation was a natural way of life in his country, where 80% of the population was black. He spoke of the equality of races, where there were no whites or blacks, only citizens who lived together in the same land, who had to be united to lift the nation out of poverty and lead it towards united progress.
Seretse fue un hombre adelantado a su tiempo y la época en que vivió, tuvo ideas progresistas donde la segregación racial era una forma natural de vida en su país, donde 80% de la población era negra. Habló de la igualdad de razas, donde no había blancos o negros, solo ciudadanos que convivían en una misma tierra, que tenían que estar unidos para sacar a la nación de la pobreza y llevarla hacia el progreso unida.
This is a wonderful movie that shows us the struggle between two cultures; the African and British. Between society and racial prejudices, which are still in force today in many countries. The political game and the interests of nations over their citizens. But in the end, a powerful message that teaches us that, despite obstacles and vicissitudes, when you believe in something and fight to make it happen, you can succeed.
Esta es una película maravillosa que nos muestra la lucha entre dos culturas; la africana y británica. Entre la sociedad y los prejuicios raciales, que hoy siguen vigentes en muchos países. El juego político y los intereses de las naciones por encima de sus ciudadanos. Pero al final un mensaje poderoso que nos enseña que, a pesar de los obstáculos y vicisitudes, cuando crees en algo y luchas por hacerlo realidad puedes triunfar.
