The night of last October 23 was one of the most anticipated and highly expected nights since a Game of Thrones season finale a few years back and of course it was due to the season finale of House of the Dragon, the spin-off of the previous named that chronicles the events of the Targaryen family leading up to the historical events of the Dance of Dragons. Now, even with spoilers roaming the web since Friday due to a leak, was it really a good season finale?
La noche del pasado 23 de octubre fue una de las más esperadas y con muchas expectativas que se ha tenido desde un final de temporada de Game of Thrones hace unos años atrás y por supuesto fue debido al final de temporada de House of the Dragon, el spin-off de la anterior nombrada que narra los eventos de la familia Targaryen que llevó a los eventos históricos de la Danza de Dragones. Ahora, aun con los spoilers rondando por la web desde el viernes por una filtración, ¿fue realmente un buen final de temporada?
For those who have also been following the series, the previous episode was completely focused on the "Greens" and how after a misunderstanding of some words by King Viserys before his death to Alicent, she understands (to convenience) that he wants Aegon to be the heir to the throne to unite the kingdoms and thus fight a common enemy. Evidently, he was referring to a different Aegon and believed he was talking to Rhaenyra but with his death it is too late to clarify that matter, the "Greens" began to move and usurp the throne that is rightfully Rhaenyra's while she did not know of her father's death, seeking to crown Aegon as soon as possible and forcing different lords to agree to the coronation. But they did not count on that Rhaenys appeared to interrupt them mounted on her dragon and although she could have ordered him to burn everyone at that moment, she did not do it, very cleverly given that it would bring consequences in the future, she decided to go to Dragonstone to inform Rhaenyra about everything although that did not prevent Aegon to be recognized as king before lords, civilians and the great septon.
Para los que han estado también siguiendo la serie, el episodio anterior fue completamente enfocado en los “Verdes” y en cómo tras un malentendido de unas palabras por parte del rey Viserys antes de morir a Alicent, ella entiende (a conveniencia) que él desea que Aegon sea el heredero del trono para que uniera los reinos y así combatir un enemigo en común. Evidentemente, él se refería a un Aegon diferente y creía que hablaba con Rhaenyra pero ya con su muerte es tarde para aclarar ese asunto, los “Verdes” empezaron a moverse y a usurpar el trono que es legítimamente de Rhaenyra mientras ella no sabía de la muerte de su padre, buscando coronar a Aegon lo más pronto posible y forzando a diferentes lords a que estuvieran de acuerdo con la coronación. Pero no contaron con que Rhaenys apareciera a interrumpirlos montada sobre su dragón y aunque pudo ordenarle a que calcinara a todos en ese instante, no lo hizo, muy inteligentemente dado a que traería consecuencias a futuro, decide irse a Dragonstone para informar de todo a Rhaenyra aunque eso no impidió que de igual modo Aegon fuera reconocido como rey ante lords, civiles y el gran septón.
In this last episode, we start with a day that could be normal and ordinary for Rhaenyra and her family, she is still pregnant and waiting for the moment when she must give birth. Her son Lucerys has doubts about himself and his abilities to take care of Driftmark and exposes his doubts to his mother, she as always, is empathetic to the emotions of her second son but tries to make him understand that things do not always happen as desired and that sometimes fate is forged for everyone without looking for it. She draws parallels from her life as heir to her son's situation, somehow making him see that things will be able to work out, closing with warm words and a kiss, not as Princess Rhaenyra but mainly as his mother. The meeting is interrupted by a guard who reports that Rhaenys has arrived and wishes to see her and Daemon immediately, upon seeing them he immediately reports that Viserys died and Aegon took the throne and also that they would go after her for being a threat. The news caused the birth to begin earlier than expected.
Ya en este último episodio, iniciamos con un día que pudo ser normal y corriente para Rhaenyra y su familia, ella aun en estado de embarazo y esperando el momento en que deba dar a luz. Su hijo Lucerys tiene dudas de sí mismo y de sus capacidades para encargarse de Driftmark y expone sus dudas a su madre, ella como siempre, se muestra empática a las emociones de su segundo hijo pero intenta hacerle entender que no siempre las cosas pasan como se desea y que a veces el destino se forja para cada quien sin buscarlo. Ella hace paralelismos de su vida como heredera con la situación de su hijo, haciéndole ver de alguna forma que las cosas podrán funcionar, cerrando con cálidas palabras y un beso, no como la Princesa Rhaenyra sino principalmente como su madre. El encuentro se ve interrumpido por un guardia que informa que Rhaenys ha llegado y desea verla y a Daemon inmediatamente, al verlos informa inmediatamente que Viserys murió y que Aegon tomó el trono y también que irían tras ella por ser una amenaza. La noticia provocó que el parto empezara antes de lo esperado.
Rhaenyra goes through much pain and discomfort while Daemon is planning the start of the war against the "Greens". Jaecerys informs Daemon that he must not mobilize without her permission which did not please much. While everything was going on, Rhaenyra gave birth without anyone's help to her daughter but unfortunately she was born lifeless. She did not allow anyone to touch her and she herself was in charge of wrapping and preparing her, she wanted to take care of it personally as a mother. During the baby's funeral, Sir Arryn appears and gives the crown to Rhaenyra swearing loyalty and his sword to her, going against Aegon's usurpation. At the impromptu coronation, all present except Rhaenys, bow in reverence to the now crowned Queen Rhaenyra.
Rhaenyra pasa por mucho dolor e incomodidad mientras Daemon está planeando el inicio de la guerra contra los “Verdes”. Jaecerys informa a Daemon que no debe movilizarse sin permiso de ella lo cual no agradó mucho. Mientras todo ocurría, Rhaenyra dio a luz sin querer ayuda de nadie a su hija pero lamentablemente nació sin vida. No permitió que nadie la tocara y ella misma se encargó de envolverla y prepararla, quería ocuparse personalmente como madre de ello. Durante el funeral del bebé, Sir Arryn aparece y le entrega la corona a Rhaenyra jurando lealtad y su espada a ella, yendo en contra de la usurpación de Aegon. Ante la improvisada coronación, todos los presentes exceptuando Rhaenys, se inclinan haciendo reverencia a la ahora coronada reina Rhaenyra.
The queen meets with different servants, knights and maester to discuss what would be the best decision to take and to take into account which allies they have among all Westeros. At that moment, Otto Hightower makes a visit to deliver a message and request of surrender to Rhaenyra, to admit that Aegon is the king, offering land and a position in the court to her sons, Daemon endures his patience and attempt to kill him along with the guards who accompany him, she makes an appearance riding her dragon. She maintains her position as a true queen despite having even had a nostalgic stroke over the page from the book she and Alicent used to read as children presented by Otto as an object of manipulation. Rhaenyra decides to have an answer later to avoid bloodshed. Meeting alone with Daemon, she begins to reconsider the offer to avoid trouble and keep the prophecy Viserys told her from The Song of Fire and Ice but Daemon becomes enraged to the point of grabbing her by the throat for a few seconds.
La reina se reúne con diferentes sirvientes, caballeros y maestre para discutir cual sería la mejor decisión a tomar y tomar en cuenta cuales aliados poseen entre todo Westeros. En ese instante, Otto Hightower hace visita para entregar un mensaje y petición de rendición a Rhaenyra, que admita que Aego es el rey, ofrenciéndole terrenos y una posición en la corte a sus hijos, Daemon aguanta su paciencia e intento de asesinarlo junto con los guardias que lo acompañan, ella hace aparición montada en su dragón. Ella mantiene su postura como verdadera reina a pesar de haber tenido incluso un golpe nostálgico por la página del libro que ella y Alicent solían leer de pequeñas presentado por Otto como objeto de manipulación. Rhaenyra decide tener una respuesta más adelante para evitar el derramamiento de sangre. Reunida a solas con Daemon, empieza a reconsiderar la oferta para evitar problemas y mantener la profecía que Viserys le contó de La Canción de Fuego y Hielo pero Daemon se enfure al punto de tomarla por el cuello por unos segundos.
Corlys returns in better health and is persuaded by his wife Rhaenys to take a position of loyalty to Rhaenyra, offering his fleet and revealing the different lands at his disposal and giving his opinion regarding the different houses. Visualizing the map, they realize that there is a way to win the war without resorting to so much slaughter but they need to secure the position of Houses Stark, Baratheon and Arryn as loyal to her. Jacaerys gives the idea of being the ones sent to those houses to leave a message from the queen, despite Rhaenyra's doubts, she agrees. He prepares the messages and with some advice and a warm farewell after swearing not to engage in combat with anyone, they leave on their dragons. Daemon is meanwhile in a subway cave, singing a song in old Valyrian to calm a great dragon that is there.
Corlys regresa en mejor condición de salud y es convenido por su esposa Rhaenys de tomar posición de lealtad ante Rhaenyra, ofreciendo su flota y revelando los diferentes terrenos que están a su disposición y dando su opinión con respecto a las diferentes casas. Visualizando el mapa, se dan cuenta que hay una manera de ganar la guerra sin recurrir a tanta masacre pero necesitan asegurar la postura de las casas Stark, Baratheon y Arryn como leales a ella. Jacaerys da la idea de ser ellos los enviados a esas casas para dejar un mensaje de parte de la reina, a pesar de las dudas de Rhaenyra, accede. Prepara los mensajes y con unos consejos y una cálida despedida tras jurar no entablar combate con nadie, se marchan sobre sus dragones. Daemon es mientras tanto en una cueva subterránea, cantando una canción en antiguo valyrio para calmar a un gran dragón que se encuentra ahí.
Lucerys arrives at House Baratheon and realizes that his uncle Aemond's dragon is also there. He is taken to Lord Boros who, although he receives him properly, makes it clear that it is too late and he has already shown interest in loyalty to Aegon since Aemond offered to marry one of the lord's daughters and Lucerys could not offer the same because he is betrothed. Unhappy with Rhaenyra's message, he offers to withdraw, but Aemond stops him to provoke a fight and take the opportunity to pluck out his eye as happened to him many years before. Lord Boros stops them saying that combat is not allowed in his hall, Lucerys leaves as soon as possible but there is a strong storm which makes Arrax, his dragon, has difficulty flying. In full darkness and among the clouds, he is surprised by Aemond riding his huge dragon Vhagar, chasing him everywhere. The situation becomes complicated for both riders, until in a fit of rage, Arrax throws fire on Vhagar which made her become enraged and take control by herself ignoring the orders of her rider. Lucerys and Arrax go to the top of the clouds away from the storm but when they thought they had gotten away from their pursuers they are taken by surprise by their pursuers, Arrax is being bitten in half with Vhagar killing him instantly and with him, Lucerys. This brought worry to Aemond.
Lucerys llega hasta la casa Baratheon y se da cuenta que el dragón de su tío Aemond también está ahí. Es llevado ante el lord Boros que aunque lo recibe adecuadamente, deja en claro que es muy tarde y ya ha mostrado interés en tenerle lealtad a Aegon puesto que Aemond ofreció casarse con una de las hijas del lord y Lucerys no podía ofrecer lo mismo por estar comprometido. Ante el descontento del mensaje de Rhaenyra, le ofrece su retirada, pero Aemond lo detiene para provocarle pelea y aprovechar la oportunidad de arrebatarle un ojo como pasó a él muchos años atrás. Lord Boros los detiene diciendo que no se permite combate en su salón, Lucerys se marcha lo más pronto posible pero hay una fuerte tormenta lo que hace que Arrax, su dragón, tenga dificultades para volar. En plena oscuridad y entre las nubes, es sorprendido por Aemond montando en su enorme dragón Vhagar, persiguiéndolo por todos lados. La situación se hace complicada para ambos jinetes, hasta que en un arrebato de ira, Arrax lanza fuego en Vhagar lo cual hizo que se enfureciera y tomara por si misma el control ignorando las órdenes de su jinete. Lucerys y Arrax van hacia lo más alto de las nubes alejándose de la tormenta pero cuando creían que se habían alejado de sus perseguidores son tomados por sorpresa por estos, siendo Arrax mordido por la mitad con Vhagar asesinádolo al instante y con él, Lucerys. Esto trajo preocupación a Aemond.
Back to Dragonstone, Daemon is seen approaching Rhaenyra to tell her what happened, she without facing him shows great pain to then recover her posture and turn around showing a different expression from seconds before, there was no more room for negotiations, it was time for war.
De vuelta a Dragonstone, Daemon es visto acercándose a Rhaenyra para contarle lo ocurrido, ella sin estar de frente muestra gran dolor para luego recuperar la postura y dar la vuelta mostrando una expresión diferente a segundos antes, ya no había lugar negociaciones, era tiempo de guerra.
Now, with this summary of the chapter, these are my opinions on the matter:

- Let's start with the story that covered the episode, I can say it was good and had no moments that felt unnecessary. The scenes happened appropriately and the information and content was not exhausting. But for a season finale and not just any season, but the first, there was a bit of a hectic feel, many shocking events of course, both near the beginning and at the end since here alone Rhaenyra lost two children and both directly and indirectly from the "Greens". It was a chapter that felt like the penultimate of the season and not the last until a few minutes before it ended. The closing was excellent of course, it makes it clear how the next story arc can start but I think it could have had something more even if it was faithful to the books.
- Empecemos con la historia que cubrió el episodio, puedo decir que fue bueno y no tuvo momentos que se sintieran innecesarios. Las escenas ocurrieron de manera adecuada y la información y contenido no eran agotadores. Pero para haber sido un final de temporada y no cualquiera, sino la primera, hubo una sensación pequeña de ajetreo, muchos eventos impactantes por supuesto, tanto cerca del inicio como al final ya que nada más en acá Rhaenyra perdió a dos hijos y ambos de manera directa e indirecta de los “Verdes”. Fue un capítulo que sentí como un penúltimo de la temporada y no el último hasta a pocos minutos que terminara. El cierre fue excelente por supuesto, deja en claro como puede arrancar el próximo arco argumental pero creo que pudo tener algo más aun siendo fiel a los libros.
The scenography was excellent as always, even though we saw mainly Dragonstone, the different camera angles, the decoration of the halls, the exterior views simply beautiful as well as the shot of the sky. I found it very simple is the Baratheon's hall scene, I expected something better but maybe it's a thing of how was the status of that family back then.
One point that didn't impact me much was the musical side, don't get me wrong, I admire and love Ramin Djawadi's works for this saga but there were no melodies that were memorable in this episode, except the one used when Jaecerys, Lucerys and Rhaenys left Dragonstone because I understand it is the same or similar to one that was used in Game of Thrones in scenes with Daenerys.
La escenografía fue excelente como siempre, a pesar que vimos principalmente Dragonstone, los diferentes ángulos de cámara, la decoración de los salones, las vistas exteriores simplemente hermosas así como la toma del cielo. Me pareció muy sencilla es la escena del salón de los Baratheon, esperaba algo mejor pero tal vez es cosa de cómo era el status de esa familia en ese entonces.
Un punto que no me impactó mucho fue el lado musical, no me malentiendan, admiro y me encantan los trabajos de Ramin Djawadi para esta saga pero no hubo melodías que fueran memorables en este episodio, salvo la que se usó cuando Jaecerys, Lucerys y Rhaenys partieron de Dragonstone porque tengo entendido es la misma o parecida a una que se usó en Game of Thrones en escenas con Daenerys.
- The special effects were spectacular, I have nothing negative to say about them. There was a lot of focus on the dragons in the episode and you could appreciate the details of each one, both in color, looks and special size, which helps a lot to understand those details that left to the imagination what you read in the books.
- Los efectos especiales fueron espectaculares, no tengo nada que decir negativo al respecto. Hubo mucho enfoque en los dragones en el episodio y se podía apreciar los detalles de cada uno, tanto en color, miradas y especial tamaño, lo cual ayuda mucho a entender esos detalles que dejaban a la imaginación lo que se lee en los libros.
- Now an important point, the performances were brilliant and spectacular! I was blown away with how well personified the emotions and situations were. Emma D'Arcy did an excellent job during the birth scene, her expressions of fear, concern for both the baby and what was happening with the kingdom, the expression of nostalgia when she saw the page of the book she used to read with Alicent as a child and that even though those scenes were not lived by her but by Milly Alcock when she played Rhaenyra as a child, she knew how to get into the role as if she had lived it too. The scene embracing her deceased baby was very strong, they let understand the great strength and love she feels, not only she wanted to take responsibility and take care of herself but she understood that there were also weighty situations and she could not allow herself to lie down, the actress assumed with great detail all those points. But the most important and shocking scene, the last one, when Daemon informs her of what happened with Lucerys, that even though she is not seen from the front her reaction is to touch her belly showing her pain as a mother, the effort of not falling to the ground and then rejoin and turn around showing a fierce look indicating that now the conditions were over. Ewan Mitchel did very well in playing the different facets of Aemond Targaryen, in the books basically he is seen as an intelligent but somewhat sociopathic being, Ewan's interpretation let us understand that his character is much deeper, the great emotional charge and lack of fears until at the end he found something in him, concern and one that exists only because of his love for his mother or just because he knows it may imply what happened. Even the younger cast did an excellent job, I also highlight Elliot Grihault in his role as Lucerys, his face of innocence, commitment, fears and at the same time with the determination to fulfill his missions, even though he was only seen very little throughout the series, it was enough to get attached to him.
- Ahora un punto importante, las actuaciones ¡Que brillantes y espectaculares fueron! Quedé impactado con lo bien personificadas que estuvieron las emociones y las situaciones. Emma D’Arcy hizo un excelente trabajo durante la escena del parto, sus expresiones de temor, preocupación tanto por la bebé como por lo que estaba ocurriendo con el reino, la expresión de nostalgia al ver la hoja del libro que solía leer con Alicent de pequeñas y que a pesar que esas escenas no las vivió ella sino Milly Alcock cuando interpretó a Rhaenyra de pequeña, supo meterse en el rol como si lo hubiese vivido también. La escena abrazando a su bebé fallecido fue muy fuerte, dejaron entender la gran fortaleza y amor que ella siente, no solo quiso tomar responsabilidad y ocuparse ella misma sino que entendió que había situaciones también de peso y no podía permitirse tumbar, la actriz asumió con gran detalle todos esos puntos. Pero la escena más importante e impactante, la última, cuando Daemon le informa de lo ocurrido con Lucerys, que a pesar que no se le ve de frente su reacción es tocarse su vientre mostrando su dolor como madre, el esfuerzo de no caer al suelo y luego reincorporarse y dar la vuelta mostrando una mirada feroz indicando que ahora las condiciones habían acabado. Ewan Mitchel lo hizo muy bien al interpretar las diferentes facetas de Aemond Targaryen, en los libros básicamente se le ve como un ser inteligente pero algo sociópata, la interpretación de Ewan nos dejó entender que su personaje es mucho más profundo, la gran carga emocional y la carencia de temores hasta que al final encontró algo en él, preocupación y una que existe solo por su amor a su madre o solo porque sabe que puede implicar lo que ocurrió. Incluso el elenco más joven hizo un excelente trabajo, destaco también a Elliot Grihault en su rol como Lucerys, su rostro de inocencia, compromiso, temores y a la vez con la determinación de cumplir con sus misiones, a pesar de que solo se le vio muy poco a lo largo de la serie, bastó para encariñarse con él.
- Speaking of getting attached, one of the criticisms that existed from the first chapters of the series is that it lacked the same emotional impact that Game of Thrones had, that is, the masochism of suffering for a character who died unexpectedly. And it's true, even though there were many characters either alive or dead, it was difficult to feel attachment for any of them and I consider it normal, the situation in this series is very different from what was seen in the other one and there was only a constant love and hate towards Daemon and Cole. But in this episode something happened that united all the users of the social networks, the death of Lucerys, as I said in the previous point, he appeared very little in the show but he won very quickly the affection to such an extent that seeing him die last night in the episode was a strong blow for everyone and brought out the desire to choose violence over dialogue.
- Hablando de encariñarse, una de las críticas que existían desde los primeros capítulos de la serie es que carecía del mismo impacto emocional que tenía Game of Thrones, dígase, el masoquismo de sufrir por un personaje que moría inesperadamente. Y es verdad, a pesar que habían muchos personajes sea vivos o muertos, era difícil sentir apego por alguno de ellos y lo considero normal, la situación en esta serie es muy diferente a lo visto en la otra y solo existía un constante amor y odio hacia Daemon y Cole. Pero en este episodio ocurrió algo que unió a todos los usuarios de las redes sociales, la muerte de Lucerys, como dije en el punto anterior, él apareció muy poco en la serie pero se ganó muy rápido el cariño a tal punto que verlo morir anoche en el episodio fue un golpe fuerte para todos y sacó el deseo de escoger la violencia por encima del dialogo.
- Something I wasn't expecting and found delightful was seeing Daemon singing in Valyrian, it was so out of place but made so much sense for the story of the episode that it just didn't look bad. The scene wasn't very long but it felt special, the soft and sweet singing as if it was a spell, the quiet footsteps and the flames of the torch dancing until that big dragon appeared roaring and showing his superiority. It was a great detail the way to show the Targaryen's bond with the dragons by having Daemon singing while looking into each other's eyes.
- Algo que no me esperaba y me pareció encantador fue ver a Daemon cantando en valyrio, fue tan fuera de lugar pero con tanto sentido para la historia del episodio que simplemente no se veía mal. La escena no fue muy larga pero se sintió especial, el canto suave y dulce como si fuera un hechizo, los pasos silenciosos y las llamas de la antorcha bailando hasta que apareció ese gran dragón rugiendo y mostrando su superioridad. Fue un gran detalle la manera de mostrar el vínculo de los Targaryen con los dragones al tener a Daemon cantando mientras se miran mutuamente a los ojos.
- One point I want to highlight because I simply loved it, the table, what a wonderful table with the map of Westeros! Although it was seen in Game of Thrones, seeing it as it was originally (historically speaking) is exquisite, I want one.
- Un punto que quiero destacar porque simplemente me encantó, la mesa, ¡qué maravilla de mesa con el mapa de Westeros! Aunque fue vista en Game of Thrones, verla como era originalmente (históricamente hablando) es exquisito, quiero una.
Overall it was a great episode, perhaps it leaves a feeling that it lacked more content and not for less, that ending left a great need for Rhaenyra to say some words full of anger and hatred towards Alicent and the others but her silence and look was enough to show her true emotions and the steps she wanted to take. Personally, I would have liked to see some sort of introduction to Jacaerys' meeting with House Stark even if it was just arriving at Winterfell, it would have been very exciting but it was not possible since he had to go through the Arryns first. The next season promises a lot but that two year wait is not at all pleasant, we can only be patient. I am happy that this season has brought emotions similar to those I experienced when Game of Thrones was on the air.
En general fue un gran capítulo, quizás deja una sensación de que faltó más contenido y no es para menos, ese final dejó una gran necesidad de que Rhaenyra dijera unas palabras llenas de rabia y odio hacia Alicent y los demás pero su silencio y mirada bastó para mostrar sus verdaderas emociones y los pasos que quería tomar. En lo personal, me hubiese gustado ver una especie de introducción al encuentro de Jacaerys con la casa Stark así fuese solo llegar a Winterfell, hubiese sido muy emocionante pero no era posible dado que él tenía que pasar por los Arryn primero. La próxima temporada promete mucho pero esa espera de dos años no es nada agradable, solo nos queda ser pacientes. Estoy feliz de que esta temporada haya traído emociones parecidas a las que viví cuando Game of Thrones estuvo en emisión.

Haha.. i just finished seeing a review of this same movie few minutes ago and it has long been on my to watch list but just dont find time to settle down yet. Its a good movie i believe because of home box office i mean i trust these guys so much and im hoping to make my review as well after finding time to see this wonderful series
I found out that the first season has finished, so I've been waiting for it to end so I can see it, many have talked about it and that it has almost the same essence of GOT, it was very good your publication friend.
