¡Hola, hola! ¿Cómo están? Espero que su año esté finalizando de la mejor manera 🤗. Después de un tiempo, decidí volver a publicar en la plataforma haciendo una de las cosas que más disfrutaba hacer: comentar sobre películas y series.
Hoy me encuentro por acá para hablar un poco de la película Encanto de Disney. Creo que es una película de la que hay mucho que decir, por lo que me emociona poder contarles mi experiencia viéndola y mi opinión sobre ella (prometo que con el mayor intento por no hacer spoiler).
Comienzo contándoles que esta es la primera película que veo en el cine desde que empezó la pandemia, por lo que había pasado más de un año y medio sin pisar una sala de cine y estaba muy emocionada por volver. Fui a Cines Unidos y me alegró ver que, al menos, todo seguía igual. En la sala solo estábamos yo y mi grupo de amigos y dos familias con niños pequeños. Por supuesto nos causó gracia que éramos los únicos veinteañeros que voluntariamente fueron a ver una película “infantil”.
Hello, hello! How are you? I hope your year is ending in the best way 🤗. After a while, I decided to get back to posting on the platform doing one of the things I enjoyed doing the most: commenting on movies and series.
Today I'm here to talk a little bit about Disney's movie Encanto. I think it's a movie that there's a lot to say about, so I'm excited to tell you about my experience watching it and my opinion about it (I promise with the greatest attempt not to make spoilers).
I start by telling you that this is the first movie I have seen in the theater since the pandemic started, so it had been over a year and a half since I had been in a theater and I was very excited to go back. I went to Cines Unidos and was happy to see that, at least, everything was still the same. In the theater it was just me and my group of friends and two families with small children. Of course we were amused that we were the only 20-somethings who voluntarily went to see a "children's" movie.
Encanto (2021) cuenta la historia de la familia Madrigal, cuya historia comienza cuando la abuela y el abuelo Madrigal, junto a sus trillizos recién nacidos, se ven obligados a escapar de su pueblo. En el camino, al verse sin salida, el abuelo Madrigal decide protegerlos pero fallece, y ante el dolor de la abuela Madrigal la magia toma lugar en una vela protegiendo tanto a la abuela Alma y sus hijos como al resto de las personas del pueblo que les acompañaban, creando una casa mágica que llaman “casita” y rodeándoles de grandes montañas a modo de protección. La magia de la vela, además, les dio habilidades sobrehumanas a los hijos Madrigal y así también a sus futuras generaciones, poderes que ponen a disposición del pueblo.
Si, básicamente la familia Madrigal era el ejemplo de perfección, lo que se prestó para el desarrollo de una dinámica familiar bastante particular. A lo largo de la película podemos ver como la abuela Alma busca mantener esta imagen intachable de su familia, muchas veces a costa de la felicidad de sus miembros, para honrar este don recibido. En la familia Madrigal no había espacio para la tristeza o la rabia, para la debilidad (o vulnerabilidad), para errores, y tampoco para las malas noticias, que muchas veces no dependen de nadie y que por desgracia forman parte de nuestra realidad.
Encanto (2021) tells the story of the Madrigal family, whose story begins when Grandma and Grandpa Madrigal, along with their newborn triplets, are forced to escape from their village. On the way, seeing themselves with no way out, Grandfather Madrigal decides to protect them but dies, and in the face of Grandmother Madrigal's grief, magic takes place in a candle protecting both Grandmother Alma and her children and the rest of the people of the village who accompanied them, creating a magical house they call "casita" and surrounding them with large mountains as protection. The magic of the candle also gave them superhuman abilities to the Madrigal children and their future generations, powers that they put at the disposal of the people.
Yes, basically the Madrigal family was the example of perfection, which lent itself to the development of a rather particular family dynamic. Throughout the film we can see how grandmother Alma seeks to maintain this unblemished image of her family, often at the cost of the happiness of its members, in order to honor this gift received. In the Madrigal family there was no room for sadness or anger, for weakness (or vulnerability), for mistakes, and neither for bad news, which often depends on no one and which unfortunately is part of our reality.

En general, me gustó mucho la historia de esta película, y sin duda la volvería a ver. Fui a verla sin haber visto el tráiler completo así que fue una sorpresa para mí la historia, la cual me pareció bastante interesante y entretenida.
Me llamaba la atención la película al estar inspirada en la cultura colombiana, y debo decir que en términos generales me sentí más identificada con esta película que con otras que han representado parte de la cultural latina, aunque no dejó de tener sus momentos clichés, “parcerito”. Específicamente, me sentí más identificada con el humor que se manejaba en la película y disfruté mucho más su música.
Otro aspecto de esta película es la centralidad de la familia, característico de nuestras culturas. Con esto quiero decir que inicialmente pensé que sería la típica historia donde había un solo protagonista buscando ser el héroe con ayuda de su familia y no necesitando a su familia para poder serlo.
Cada uno de los personajes de esta película tiene su propia magia (dejando a un lado sus propios poderes, por supuesto) y es muy fácil quererles. Si creo que la historia de cada uno pudo ser más desarrollada, de hecho la película a mi parecer duró muy poco para el potencial que tenía, pero en general da espacio para que cada uno resalte y tenga su momento de ser el favorito.
Overall, I really liked the story of this movie, and I would definitely watch it again. I went to see it without having seen the full trailer so I was surprised by the story, which I found quite interesting and entertaining.
I was attracted to the film because it was inspired by Colombian culture, and I must say that in general terms I felt more identified with this film than with others that have represented part of the Latin culture, although it still had its cliché moments, "parcerito". Specifically, I felt more identified with the humor that was handled in the film and I enjoyed its music much more.
Another aspect of this film is the centrality of the family, characteristic of our cultures. By this I mean that initially I thought it would be the typical story where there was a single protagonist seeking to be the hero with help from his family and not needing his family in order to be the hero.
Each of the characters in this movie has their own magic (setting aside their own powers, of course) and it's very easy to love them. Yes I think the story of each could have been more developed, in fact the movie in my opinion was too short lived for the potential it had, but overall it gives room for each one to stand out and have their moment to be the favorite.

Personaje favorito: Entre las cosas que más me gustaron de la película están sus personajes, con sus personalidades y sus historias. Es difícil elegir a uno solo así que lo haré por categorías:
- El personaje más divertido: Me reí mucho con la tía Pepa, su esposo y Camilo, pero quien más me sacó risas fue Luisa 💪.
- El personaje con mejor poder: Para mí todas las habilidades de los personajes son bastante geniales. Una de mis favoritas fue la de Antonio, que podía hablar con los animales, pero realmente se ve muy poco de ello en la película, por lo que escogeré a Camilo, con cuyos poderes no solo se divertía sino que también ayudaba a otros.
Favorite character: Among the things I liked the most about the movie are its characters, with their personalities and their stories. It's hard to choose just one so I'll do it by categories:
- Funniest character: I laughed a lot with Aunt Pepa, her husband and Camilo, but the one who got the most laughs out of me was Luisa 💪.
- Character with the best power: For me all the characters' abilities are pretty cool. One of my favorites was Antonio, who could talk to animals, but you really see very little of it in the movie, so I'll pick Camilo, with whose powers he not only had fun but also helped others.

This song is performed by Luisa's character, making you see all the weight that was falling on her and how she felt trying to live up to the high expectations others had on her

Esta canción la canta Isabela cuando descubre que con su poder no solo crea cosas hermosas a la vista de los demás sino también cosas diferentes, divertidas, coloridas y fuera de lo esperado. De cierto modo es un canto de libertad.
- Inspiration:
This song is sung by Isabela just when she discovers that with her power she not only creates beautiful things in the sight of others but also different, fun, colorful and out of the expected. In a way it is a song of freedom.
- No se habla de Bruno:
Esta canción es interpretada por varios miembros de la familia Madrigal y representa la negación de todos a cualquier mínima sensación de amenaza ante ese mundo ideal que creían vivir, esa negación a que la vida tiene momentos difíciles y que no dependen de nadie.

This song is performed by several members of the Madrigal family and represents the denial of all of them to any minimal sense of threat to the ideal world they thought they were living in, the denial that life has difficult moments and that they do not depend on anyone.
Encanto me parece ideal para estas fechas, que generalmente se asocian con el cierre de ciclos en nuestras vidas. Es una trama que nos invita a reflexionar sobre cómo es la dinámica de nuestra familia, cuál pudiera ser la posible razón y cómo ha influenciado en las personas que somos hoy día. Da lugar también para pensar en el perdón y la reconciliación, ya que nuestros antepasados también pertenecieron a dinámicas familiares particulares, de las que a veces es complicado desligarse y que también influenciaron su forma de ser, para bien o para mal.

Encanto seems ideal for these dates, which are generally associated with the closing of cycles in our lives. It is a plot that invites us to reflect on the dynamics of our family, what could be the possible reason and how it has influenced the people we are today. It also gives room to think about forgiveness and reconciliation, since our ancestors also belonged to particular family dynamics, from which it is sometimes difficult to detach and which also influenced their way of being, for better or for worse.
