Hey there movie lovers! So for today, I’m gonna share about the current series I’m following, and it’s High Potential. So, just a quick intro on how I came across this series—yesterday, we had a shooting for our video project. It took hours to finish it, and when we did, they decided to watch something on TV. Supposedly, I planned to go home immediately after the shooting's done, but the moment I started watching the episode, I was immersed in its story. Its first episode immediately hooked me, and so today, when the botched speech delivery was finally finished—I rewatched the first episode, then I watched the next, then the next, until I’m almost halfway. My phone already gave up, so I stopped watching for a while to charge it, and that’s why I’m here to briefly share my reaction to the preliminary episodes I watched, but before I proceed, first let me share a short peek at what this series is all about.

High Potential is a mystery-drama series that was released last year September 17. So the story follows the life of Morgan, a quirky single mom who works as a cleaner in the LAPD. Yet one night, when she’s cleaning—she accidentally bumps into a pile of evidence. Upon seeing them, she immediately spotted mistakes in the interpretation, so she compulsively arranged it in order, not knowing that action would forever change the course of her life.

The moment I knew that the main character had a unique ability, I was immediately convinced I’m going to like this series. Plus her character’s ability was so admirable—like she’s sooo intelligent, I mean, isn’t that amazing? Her quirky and sassy attitude also motivated me to watch further because I’m quite fed up seeing women as damsels in distress, though those characters also had their a charm of their own; I can’t deny that I’m more into characters who can stand by themselves. Her confidence was so enviable because aside from the way she acts, she also dresses fabulously without caring what other people would think of her. She kinda reminds me of Elle from Legally Blonde because both of them didn’t let their line of work intimidate their fashion style.

Aside from her character, what I also like in this series is how informative it is, because it’s not every day that I get to know why medieval staircases are built clockwise or why most of the old churches face east. I actually learned interesting stuff, and for me, that makes this series more interesting. Also, the cases were pretty much something that entertained me because some made my neurons work for a while. The cases on each episode vary, so every episode was like a surprise to me, and I like how unpredictable most of them are, especially that episode about that tap dancer who almost got murdered. I thought my guess on who the suspect was right, but in the end—it’s quite far haha. So yeah, I really enjoyed it just as much as I enjoyed the thrill and suspense I feel whenever I’m watching the cases.

Although it has strong points, it also has a fair share of flaws (well, not exactly fatal flaws, but just the ones that made me hesitate to continue watching it)…for example, the premise of having a highly intellectual main character in a mystery story isn’t new. Like I’ve already watched a lot of movies with intelligent main characters steering the plot, but anyway that wasn’t much of a turn-off for me. Also, the drama—family drama specifically, I’m not really fond of them because they tend to divert the focus from the main plot. It’s not that bad a thing tho, because with that family drama, I was able to get to know about Morgan more and why her life was like—I mean, she’s highly intelligent, so I doubt that her life became like that overnight. There must be a reason why she’s a single mom…and because of that drama, her character lore slowly unravels.

Overall, I can confidently say that I enjoyed watching almost of its first season, and if it weren’t for my lowbat phone, I could have finished its first half today. So I guess that’s it for now, and if you’re still here, thanks for staying with me, and I hope that I can soon share a complete review of this series when I can finally finish all of its episodes. So until then, see ya~

Wait—before I totally end this, let me share first its trailer and hopefully it’ll pique your interest.

I just started watching this show too! Such a coincidence! I'm definitely liking the show, especially the mystery bits and little facts sprinkled in.
