Greetings, Hive community! here's my review of Lost Ollie (no spoilers)
Lost Ollie es una miniserie que esperaba muchísimo, el director es Peter Ramsey, quien codirigió Into The Spiderverse, y esta escrita por Shannon Tindle, quien escribió Kubo y la leyenda del Samurai. Además, tengo entendido que mas gente de Laika trabajo en este proyecto. Pero no fueron solo los nombres los que atrajeron mi atención, desde que vi el poster sabia que esta historia podría tener madures y que no iba a ser dirigida explícitamente a un publico infantil. Aun así, tengo que decir que ha sobrepasado mis expectativas, y por mucho. Como se que la mayoría no la habrá visto, ya que Netflix le hizo nula publicidad, explicare brevemente de que va:
Lost Ollie is a miniseries I was really looking forward to, the director is Peter Ramsey, who co-directed Into The Spiderverse, and it is written by Shannon Tindle, who wrote Kubo and the Legend of the Samurai. Also, I understand that people from Laika worked on this project. But it wasn't just the names that caught my attention, from the moment I saw the poster I knew that this story could have maturity and that it wasn't going to be explicitly aimed at a children's audience. Still, I have to say that it exceeded my expectations, and by far. As I know most of you haven't seen it, since Netflix didn't advertise it, I'll briefly explain what it's about:
Ollie es un muñeco que de pronto despierta dentro de una caja que es dejada en una tienda de antigüedades, no recuerda como, ni por que llego ahí, pero lo único que sabe es que tiene que regresar con su dueño. En su odisea lo acompañaran Zozo, un payaso de juguete que ya sabe lo que es perder a un ser querido, y Rosy, una osa de peluche, que por algún motivo, tiene un apego con este payaso. Ollie tendrá que visitar los lugares en los que estuvo con Billy, su dueño, y así poco a poco, ir recordando el camino a casa, antes de que sea demasiado tarde.
Aunque la mayor parte del protagonismo lo tienen los juguetes, la parte de los humanos también tiene presencia e intenta tener una fuerte carga emocional.
Ollie is a doll who suddenly wakes up inside a box that is left in an antique store, he doesn't remember how he got there or why he got there, but the only thing he knows is that he has to return to his owner. On his odyssey he will be accompanied by Zozo, a toy clown who already knows what it is like to lose a loved one, and Rosy, a stuffed bear, who for some reason, has an attachment to this clown. Ollie will have to visit the places where he was with Billy, his owner, and so little by little, remember the way home, before it is too late.
Although most of the protagonism is given to the toys, the part of the humans also has a presence and tries to have a strong emotional charge.
Lost Ollie habla de lo que significa perder a un ser querido, pero no se enfrasca en dar una sola visión sobre esto, aborda el tema desde dos perspectivas muy claras: La aceptación, superación, y el seguir adelante. En contraste con: La negación, el estancamiento y el odio.
Todos los personajes tienen un apego emocional con alguien, pero no todos actúan de la misma manera. Ollie quiere estar con su dueño, y pese a las adversidades, siempre mantiene la esperanza, pero por sobretodo, nunca renuncia a su esencia. Billy tiene que lidiar con la perdida física de un familiar, y se ve obligado a madurar a una tempana edad. Zozo parece haber aceptado que nunca podrá reencontrarse con su ser querido, pero realmente, por dentro, le carcome un sentimiento mucho mas oscuro. Y Rosy, tiene que actuar como alguien que no es, por el simple hecho de no soltar aquello que claramente la esta lastimando.
Lost Ollie talks about what it means to lose a loved one, but it doesn't get bogged down in giving a single view on this, it approaches the subject from two very clear perspectives: Acceptance, coping, and moving on. In contrast to: Denial, stagnation, and hatred.
All the characters have an emotional attachment to someone, but not all of them act in the same way. Ollie wants to be with his owner, and despite adversity, he always maintains hope, but above all, he never gives up his essence. Billy has to deal with the physical loss of a family member, and is forced to mature at an early age. Zozo seems to have accepted that he can never be reunited with his loved one, but really, inside, a much darker feeling gnaws at him. And Rosy has to act like someone she is not, simply because she can't let go of what is clearly hurting her.
Zozo es el responsable de que esta serie sea lo que es. El es quien brinda la postura mas radical, y la que sirve para generar el contraste del que les hable antes, ya que es todo lo opuesto de Ollie. Es un personaje cuya esperanza se ha tornado en negación, y que lo ha llevado hasta el fondo de un abismo del que ya no puede salir.
Zozo is responsible for making this series what it is. He is the one who provides the most radical stance, and the one who serves to generate the contrast I mentioned before, since he is the complete opposite of Ollie. He is a character whose hope has turned into denial, and that has taken him to the bottom of an abyss from which he can no longer get out.
Otro de los puntos positivos es que juega muy bien con los tonos, y es que la serie tiene un punto de quiebre que hace que lo que parecía una aventura a lo Toy Story, se convierta en algo completamente diferente.
Another positive point is that it plays very well with tones, and the series has a breaking point that makes what seemed like a Toy Story-like adventure become something completely different.
El punto negativo, la parte de los humanos, si bien se me salieron un par de lagrimas al final, lo cierto es que el desarrollo de esta parte de la historia se me hizo un poco mas cliché, no siento que me aporte tanto como si lo hace la parte de los juguetes.
The negative point, the part of the humans, although I had a couple of tears at the end, the truth is that the development of this part of the story was a little more cliché, I don't feel that it contributed as much as the part of the toys.

Si vi el trailer en Netflix pero es verdad que no he escuchado nada más sobre esta historia, honestamente me pareció muy tierno el muñeco, algo que cualquier niño le gustaría tener, pero no se porque razón no le di mucha importancia al trailer, pero ahora que leo tu reseña tiene una trama bastante interesante y si tiene algo de parecido a las aventuras de Toy Story estoy segura que será una historia que me gustará ver.

Es una serie que te va a sorprender, y aunque tiene sus similitudes con Toy Story, créeme que en un punto notaras la gran diferencia que hay entre estas dos.
