The film "Milk". An amazing story about Harvey Milk.

"I am Harvey Milk and I want to recruit you". This is the main phrase of the film. This is the phrase that is most often heard during the fight against LGBT people. Allegedly, all LGBT people want to lure everyone who is nearby to their side.

Hey! I am Alex Cooper and I want to recruit you. I want to do this using a review of a film that I watched a couple of days ago. I cried from this movie. There is so much tragedy in him, so much pain. But at the same time, this film gives hope and strength to fight further! I am an open lesbian, it is difficult. Therefore, the film touched on my personal experiences.

What is this film about?

One day, insurance agent Harvey Milk, a forty-year-old gay man hiding from his superiors, got a click. He fell madly in love with a young interesting guy and after that completely changed his life.

Milk became a hippie, a free man who got tired of hiding, moved to another city with his boyfriend, and opened a photoshop on Castro Street, in a quiet, God-fearing Irish neighborhood of San Francisco.

The Catholics politely asked him to get away, just like on the famous scum poster: "We don't drink with gays." Instead, Milk turned Castro Street into California's gay capital, was elected to the City Council, and became a nationwide famous politician.

Milk never went to the federal level, but he performed a miracle and did not allow the adoption of a law prohibiting homosexuals from working in schools and medical institutions. Became, in short, Martin Luther King of the gay, and, of course, was killed.

Yes, it's a spoiler. But from the very first minutes of the film, you will understand that the main character will be killed. Moreover, this is a fairly well-known history in politics.

Although the film begins with the murder of the protagonist and his will, the creator of the film Gus Van Sant says that this film is not about death, but about self-sacrifice: "Milk sacrifices himself in the name of the idea. <…> He is not afraid of death, he jokes with it, hanging a threatening letter on the refrigerator - he believes that this way he will be able to deceive fate. "

Why is this movie important?

First, Sean Penn. The man Madonna called the Coolest Dude in the Universe plays a man who wants to be loved for who he is. He has a characteristic gait, as if according to the Remarkovian recipe: clamp a five-mark coin with his buttocks.

At the same time, Seann Penn is a heterosexual man who plays an incredibly realistic gay! Personally, I am delighted with his game. In short, Penn honestly worked out his "Oscar" for this role.

In addition, this film is important for every LGBT person. At least to understand that you are not alone in this world and that you are not sick. Honestly, I repeatedly wanted to end my life by suicide and miraculously survived. I am sure that this film has become a lifeline for many young people around the world.

History of the Film

Attempts to make a film about the life of Garvey Milk began after the documentary "Harvey Milk's Pores" won an Oscar. Various scenarios were considered in the early 1990s, but by 2007 all projects had failed.

The main part of the film Milk was shot on Castro Street and other streets of San Francisco, including the vicinity of the former Milk store "Castro Camera".

The release of the picture on US screens is dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Milk's murder. The pre-premiere screening of the film took place on October 28, 2008, in the "gay quarter" of Castro (San Francisco), where the hero of the film lived.

I thought Penn did a fantastic job in this movie. I'm glad I watched it because I somehow managed to not know about this man's life at all because it was I guess still kind of taboo back when I was in school.
