For a long time, humans have always been fascinated by the unknown, by the inhospitable and distant, thanks to our intellect and great creativity we can recreate before our perception incredible scenarios and creatures so interesting and relevant that today have become a symbol in our society, represented in movies, series, books and comics such as the aliens of the saga of Alien, the predator, the alien ET or the wide variety of beings that can be represented in the vast world of Star Wars.
Durante mucho tiempo, los seres humanos siempre hemos tenido fascinación por lo desconocido por aquello inhóspito y distante, gracias a nuestro intelecto y gran creatividad podemos recrear ante nuestra percepción escenarios increíbles y criaturas tan interesantes y relevantes que en la actualidad se han convertido en un símbolo en nuestra sociedad, representadas en películas, series, libros eh historietas como por ejemplo los alienígenas de la saga de Alíen, el depredador, el alienígena ET o la gran variedad de seres que se pueden representar en el vasto mundo de Star Wars.
From my point of view the reason why each one has given a significant impact to a lesser or greater degree is in addition to its image the background that represents it, whether ideas, customs, way of acting among other things that complement it, but what about that creature that for the cinema and us as viewers does not have a specific form, rather it possesses a capacity of adaptation and mimicry so perfect and terrifying, a creature that can replicate exactly what it is in an isolated environment with a group of individuals exposed not only to this entity but to a distrust that grows as the repercussions of the creature grow. That is why it will be a pleasure for me to bring you a review and a personal opinion about this old cult movie.
Desde mi punto de vista la razón por la cual cada uno ha dado un impacto significativo en menor o mayor grado es además de su imagen el trasfondo que lo representa sean ideas, costumbres, forma de actuar entre otras cosas que lo complemente, pero que pasaría con aquella criatura que para el cine y nosotros como espectadores no tiene un forma en especifica, más bien posee una capacidad de adaptación y mimetización tan perfecta y aterradora, una criatura que puede replicar exactamente lo que sea en un ambiente aislado con un conjunto de individuos expuestos no solo a este ente si no a una desconfianza que crece a medida de que las repercusiones de la criatura crecen. Es por eso que para mi será un grato placer el traerles una reseña y una opinión personal, sobre esta película de culto antigua.
The Plop / La trama
The story takes place in the year 1982, specifically in Antarctica we see a ship heading to earth when at first we see a rather peculiar and unusual situation, in which by means of a helicopter 2 individuals try to chase and kill a dog with a rifle, then we are taken to a scientific base where we can see our cast of characters doing their activities and specific roles in it, Upon noticing the presence of the helicopter and the gunshots, they all propose to go out and see what happens, the dog arrives at the station as well as the pilots, due to a tragic misunderstanding one of the pilots, unable to communicate with our scientists, decides to use a more drastic method, so he decides to explode the base but accidentally and tragically kills his partner, in defense by the group of scientists the leader kills him.
La historia se desarrolla en el ano de 1982, específicamente en la Antártida vemos una nave dirigiendose a la tierra cuando a primera instancia vemos una situación bastante peculiar eh inusual, en el cual por medio de un helicóptero 2 individuos intentan perseguir y matar a un perro con un rifle, acto seguido somos llevados a una base científica en donde podemos ver a nuestro elenco de personajes haciendo sus actividades y roles específicos en la misma, al notar la presencia del helicóptero y los disparos todos se proponen a salir y ver qué sucede, el perro llega a la estación así como los pilotos, debido a un mal entendido trágico uno de los pilotos al no poder comunicarse con nuestro científicos, decide usar un método mas drástico, así que decide explotar la base pero accidental y trágicamente mata a su compañero, en defensa por parte del grupo de científicos el líder lo mata.
To investigate this strange and bizarre behavior the group decides to investigate the body of the pilot and learn that they came from a scientific base not far from there, they try to communicate what happened to the outside but for various reasons can not so they are incommunicado, and a small team decides to go to the base of the dead pilot to investigate what happens.
Para investigar esta conducta tan extraña y bizarra el grupo decide investigar el cuerpo del piloto y se enteran de que estos venia de una base científica no muy lejos de ahí, intentan comunicar lo sucedido al exterior pero por diversas razones no pueden así que se encuentran incomunicados, y un pequeño equipo se decide a ir a la base del piloto muerto para investigar que ocurre.
The situation is worse than they thought, there are frozen and burned bodies but one of these is in a completely deplorable and inhuman state, a strange amalgam, they decide to bring such a body to their base and through some studies they discover that they are in the presence of an unknown predator organism that can perfectly assimilate the external and internal character of any living thing that it assimilates, but it is too late since the dog was that kind of organism and it begins to make the process of assimilation in the kennel with the other dogs (a grotesque and realistic spectacle) decide to act quickly and kill him, it is from here where the film will change drastically and will become an environment of suspicion, doubt, fear and above all distrust among the same group.
La situación es peor de lo que creían hay cuerpos congelados y quemados pero uno de estos se encuentra en un estado completamente deplorable e inhumano una amalgama extraña, deciden traer tal cuerpo a su base y por medio de algunos estudios descubren que se encuentran en presencia de un desconocido organismo depredador que puede asimilar perfectamente el carácter externo e interno de cualquier cosa viva que este asimile, pero es demasiado tarde ya que el perro era esa especie de organismo y este empieza hacer el proceso de asimilación en la perrera con los otros perros (un espectáculo grotesco y tan realista) deciden actuar rápidamente y lo matan, es a partir de aquí en donde la película cambiara drásticamente y se convertirá en un entorno de sospechas, dudas, temor y sobretodo desconfianza entre el mismo grupo.

It is a cult film of 1982, directed by John Carpenter who is known for having in his repertoire films of various shades with a somewhat unique style such as "Big trouble in little chine" or "Rescate en el barrio chino" in Latin Spanish, such film had a significant impact as a reference in the development of certain characters in the video game industry as Raiden from the saga of fighting games Mortal Komabat, or Solid Snake from the franchise of the well-known stealth and espionage game Metal Gear. However Carpenter's work also had a good recognition in the aspect of suspense and horror and it is here in the elaboration of the movie of the "thing" released by Universal Studios, based on the book by John W. Campbell's book "Who Goes There" where it had its greatest impact in my opinion, recreating an atmosphere of suspense without the need to resort to computer animations and without forcing scenes with the intention of scaring just because, the best impact it can have is by the development of tension in a remote and inhospitable environment decorated with a grotesque presentation by the alien when it interacts or assimilates the other organisms, and an attitude of paranoia and distrust is the best from my point of view.
Es una película de culto de 1982, dirigida por John Carpenter quien es conocido por tener en su repertorio películas de diversos matices con un estilo algo singular como por ejemplo "Big trouble in little chine" o "Rescate en el barrio chino" en español latino, tal película tuvo un impacto significativo como referencia en la elaboración de ciertos personajes en la industria de los videojuegos como Raiden de la saga de juegos de pelea Mortal Komabat, o Solid Snake de la franquicia del conocido juego de sigilo y espionaje Metal Gear. Sin embargo el trabajo de Carpenter tuvo también un buen reconocimiento en el aspecto del suspenso y el terror y es aquí en la elaboración de la película de la "cosa" lanzada por Universal Studios, basada en el libro de John W. Campbell "Whoes goes there" donde tuvo su mayor impacto a mi parecer, recreando un ambiente de suspenso sin la necesidad de recurrir animaciones computarizadas y sin forzar escenas con la intención de asustar porque si, el mejor impacto que puede tener es por el desarrollo de la tensión en un ambiente alejado he inhóspito decorado con un grotesca presentación por parte del alíen cuando este interactúa o asimila los otros organismos, y una actitud de paranoia y desconfianza es lo mejor desde mi punto de vista.
Personal opinion / Opinión personal
And well we come to my favorite topic, my personal opinion and my recommendation about this movie, the truth is that I personally enjoyed it a lot, I don't consider myself a fan or a cult person when it comes to movies in general and more about the aspect of horror and suspense, my opinion is directed more than anything to the aspects that for me I consider that they were very good. As is the case of the realism and elaboration of puppets in the film, they look and feel so real and grotesque that leaves you shocked, see the phases of the transformation is amazing and makes you think if at that time, having a modest budget to present something like that and they excelled enough in that aspect because currently there are no more movies like this? ? everything is currently summarized by what I've seen in computer effects, anyway another variant that I liked is the sounds that the creature emitted, quite frightening and sharp, as well as the adaptation of the dogs in some scenes mainly in the barnyard scene was very good.
Y bueno llegamos a mi tema favorito, mi opinión personal y mi recomendación sobre esta película, la verdad en lo personal lo disfrute bastante no me considero un fanático o una personal de culto cuando se trata sobre películas en general y mas sobre el aspecto del terror y suspenso, mi opinión está dirigida más que nada a los aspectos que para mi considere que eran muy buenos. Como es el caso del realismo y elaboración de marionetas en la película, lucen y se sienten tan reales y grotescas que te deja impactado, ver las fases de las transformación es increíble y te hace pensar si en esa época, teniendo un presupuesto modesto para presentar algo así y sobresalieron bastante en ese aspecto porque actualmente no hay mas películas así?? todo se resume actualmente por lo que he visto en efectos de computadora, en fin otra variante que me gusto es los sonidos que emitía la criatura, bastante aterradores y agudos, así como la adaptación de los perros en algunas escenas principalmente en la escena del corral fue muy buena.
With respect to the cast of characters in the base and their performance, there are certain scenes that I thought were very good, as the scene of retention for blood, the use of flamethrowers I loved, and distrust as well as psychological decline with themselves, as time progresses and the creature adapts faster to the behavior of some. In conclusion I recommend it is a cult movie that is worth it, but if you have a sensitive stomach in some scenes be careful and do not eat before watching it hahaha otherwise if you like suspense and psychological horror give it a chance.
Con respecto al elenco de personajes en la base y su actuación, pues hay ciertas escenas que me parecieron muy buenas, como la escena de retención para la sangre, el uso de los lanzallamas me encanto, y la desconfianza así como el declive psicológico con ellos mismos, a medida de que el tiempo avanza y la criatura se adapta mas rápido al comportamiento de algunos. En conclusión la recomiendo es una película de culto que vale la pena, pero si tienen estomago sensible en algunas escenas tengan cuidado y no coman antes de verla jajaja de resto si les gusta el suspenso y el terror psicológico denle una oportunidad.

Un clásico del género y además un film que me asustó un poco cuando lo vi por primera vez porque no me esperaba un monstruo tan bizarro y violento. Tengo años que no la veo así que quizás ya es tiempo de echarle un vistazo otra vez.
Eso es lo hermoso de esta película de culto, lo realista que pueden llegar a ser las marionetas y esculturas, ademas las escenas y el ambiente no los sientes forzado realmente. :D
