You know when you have many movies lined up to see but a new one comes out and you bypass the rest to see it? That’s exactly what happened to me this weekend. I have several lists of movies I wanna see but every time it’s like the newest one is the best option. This weekend, a particularly special movie caught my attention and I just had to see it before any other.
I don’t know when Bullet Train was released but it has been the buzz for quite a while. In the past week a couple of my friends had seen the movie and said that it was really good. I’ve also seen the hashtag trend on Twitter with most people saying good things about it. A few days ago, I even replied to someone’s positive review on the movie right here in this community. So, as curious as ever, I set out to see this film and judge by myself whether it’s worth the hype or not. Let’s get into it…

I tried to approach Bullet Train as neutral as I could but it was almost impossible. Because of all the hype and good things I have heard about the film, I would be lying if I said I did not have a little above average expectations. Funny enough, with the high expectations, I was worried that I would end up getting disappointed because that is the case sometimes. Also, because I don’t normally like movies that happen mostly in a single place (the train in this instance) I was not very sure if I would enjoy Bullet Train. Yes I had mixed feelings yet I went on to see it.
To start, I have a question for you. What is the easiest way to create hype around a movie? Easy. You include a lot of big names as cast members. This was what was done in Bullet Train. Obviously the main reason I was interested in the film was the awesome cast selection. I’m pretty sure this was what attracted most people to the film too.
Now it’s not just about picking big names to fill in as cast members but choosing the correct blend of talent for a great product. I have to say that I like the choice of actors in the film. There were stars like Brian Henry, Michael Shannon, Zazie Beetz, Channing Tatum and even Zandra Bullock. Heck, they even casted our dear Karen Fukuhara from The Boys. There is another cast member I won’t mention because the story was told so well that when it got to the part that they were revealed, I screamed and clapped. You should check out the movie and see if you’d have the same reaction.

Now to the best part. As the face of the film we have Brad Pitt who played the assassin, Ladybug. This guy has gotten to a point in his career where people hardly question his skills as an actor. Well, why would they because he’s just that good and he proved so in this movie. I really don’t have words to describe Brad Pitt’s performance except “It was perfect”.
Bullet Train is an Action/Thriller movie so you’d expect a lot of action from it. Well there was no shortage of that in the film. These action scenes were not just weak fights and whatnot but properly choreographed scenes with a lot of thought and detailing put in them. There’s a good amount of blood and body slashing sound effects that make every fight scene feel real. The gore is not so much but it is definitely enough to make you wince or drop your jaw.
Moving from the intense to the mild, let’s talk about the comic elements. In my opinion, many movies are incomplete without some healthy comedy. A good laugh here and there is enough to keep me glued to the screen for hours. Bullet Train did not just have comedy elements here and there but it was all over the movie. There was just the perfect balance between bloody scenes and ridiculous lines.

In Bullet Train you can definitely feel the hand of David Leitch at work. I’m no expert but the similarity in filming quality of the fight scenes between this movie and a lot of his other movies is clear.
The biggest win for the director is how the story is told. I really like the narrative style that consisted of multiple flashbacks that all came together to make a whole story. In this movie, every detail matters. Everything starts off so unrelated but in the end they all come together to meet at a point. Everything is related some way or the other. It was very beautiful to see how these came together in a very non-messy way to produce a really good story.

I started watching this movie like few hours ago, the fight scenes are really catchy and we'll staged kinda looks real. The story line is good butvi must say I watched it all because Brad Pete starred in it.
