Hey there awesomesauce movie and tv shows lovers and welcome to my review for the week. I really wish I can write more reviews in a week but life gets in the way all the time.
Recently, a friend of mine (whom I won't mention) told me that my reviews had gotten too "serious". I didn't know what that meant because I know I try to add a little bit of humor here and there in my posts. I went back to my last two reviews and noticed that, yes, I tend to take stuff seriously sometimes. I also noticed that, nowadays, I watch movies and get too critical (so to say) with them rather than truly enjoy them. Well I don't wanna be a critic :(
Yeah sometimes it's ok to get serious but not this week. I'm gonna be talking about a movie that I saw purely for the thrill of it. Without wasting time, let's talk about Night Shift!

Bud Jablonski seems like a regular guy who works as a Pool Cleaner but in reality he is (you already guessed it) a vampire hunter. My Opinion on Day Shift/Mi opinión sobre Day Shift
I heard about this movie a couple of weeks back and was genuinely interested after I saw the trailer. It looked pretty fun to watch but I saw some bad reviews about it. Sure I know how critics can get so I did not let the bad reviews stop me from checking out this film. I approached the movie with a child-like mind and it was a good thing that I did so because I absolutely had fun watching it.
Day Shift does not have a lot of uniqueness in its storyline. It's just your typical good-guy-bad-guy movie with a lot of minions and a boss level. It's the type of movie which you don't expect so much in casualties on the side of the good guys. Because the good guys have to win one way or the other, there are a many conveniences that just seem ridiculous and may have caused people to write bad reviews about the film.
The thing is that you can always tell when a movie is expected to do more with its plot and when it is not. A movie like Morbius, for example, was expected to be more but just ended up being a total flop. Some people said that it was just fun to watch but because of the high expectations, I'd argue that it simply was not. Day Shift, on the other hand, was always supposed to have a simple story that was not to be taken too seriously. So normally, regular viewers like you and me would approach the movie without so much expectations and it would be fun.

I had a good time watching Day Shift but before I get into why it's so fun I want to talk about some of those "conveniences" that I mentioned earlier. Why? Because movies should not get away with plot holes. The vampires playing around before they get killed is one thing I won't criticize because that's just how it's supposed to be. Still, the fact that the good vampires were much stronger than the bad ones did not make so much sense to me. Ok it shouldn't because again, the good guys have to win.
The major flaw for me was this; there were five types of vampires and among them was the "Uber Vampire". According to the story, these are the only types that cannot be killed by decapitation. In the movie we see one Uber Vampire survive decapitation but we also see at least two that were killed in that manner. It did not make sense to me but I said I would not get critical :)
Ok despite the little gap in the plot, this film is really entertaining. The biggest win for me was how they were able to shift the vampire genre from horror and gore to action and great comedy. There were gruesome scenes for sure but for some weird reason they did not have that much of a negative impact. It was just incredible to see how quickly the mood would get lightened during or after something that should be really traumatic. The light music helped but the amazing wordplay just had me laughing like crazy. I would give the scriptwriters an A+ for the work here. Sometimes I remember some lines and chuckle a bit.

Another thing that was really good about Day Shift was the action. The fight scenes were properly choreographed. This movie had fight scenes that you would just hope would last forever because they are just that good. Every minute of watching the cool stunts was a delight and I just craved for more. Normally I like to really get into the substance of a film but for this one I was just in it for the action and comedy.
To be honest, the major reason I decided to see this film was because Snoop Dogg starred in it. He played a badass vampire hunter called Big John. Was his performance good? Yes it was. Am I being biased because I really like Snoop Dogg? Most likely. Still, the hype around him is real and I’d say he was a great addition to this film.
Of course the rest of the cast were very good. Jamie Foxx was a solid pick for Bud and there’s no denying the fact that he put everything into that character. Still he performance wasn’t the most impressive in my opinion. I’d say that the person that impressed me the most was Dave Franco with his Seth character. Right from the time Seth was introduced the movie received a whole new energy. This film would not have been as great without Seth and we can thank Dave Franco for the character. Dave and Jamie displayed some top notch chemistry that held this movie together.

I saw it a few days ago, some funny scenes, but overall, I don't think I liked the story very much. The villain was defeated too easily. The first fight scene with the old vampire if I liked it.
