It's a pleasure for me to share with you once again a movie review, this time it contains spoilers, but it was necessary to explain a little of the peculiarities of this movie. I hope you like it and I encourage you to watch it soon. Thank you very much for being here.
No sé, la verdad es que no sé qué decirles sobre esta película. Ha sido tan confusa que me ha dejado con posibles teorías absurdas dando vueltas en mi cabeza, porque sí, fue solo la historia la que me dejó mordiéndome las uñas.
I don't know, I really don't know what to tell you about this movie. It has been so confusing that it has left me with possible absurd theories swirling around in my head, because yes, it was just the story alone that left me biting my nails.

De primera impresión parece ser una historia dramática en la que un par de amigos tienen una pequeña discusión y uno de ellos decide cortar la relación; algo sencillo, fácil de digerir, el ambiente es tan agradable que incluso hasta gracia da ver como el otro intenta buscar una solución para que todo vuelva a estar como antes. Cualquiera pensaría que hubo un desacuerdo y que con una disculpa todo se solucionaría. Creí que tal vez para que la película fuera interesante, habría alguna que otra situación nostálgica que me sacaría unas cuantas lagrimitas y yo estaría aquí hablándoles sobre el valor de la amistad y no intentando darle sentido al desenlace que tuvo.
At first glance it seems to be a dramatic story in which a couple of friends have a small argument and one of them decides to cut the relationship; something simple, easy to digest, the atmosphere is so pleasant that it is even funny to see how the other tries to find a solution so that everything goes back to the way it was before. Anyone would think that there was a disagreement and that with an apology everything would be solved. I thought that maybe to make the movie interesting, there would be some nostalgic situations that would bring a few tears to my eyes and I would be here talking about the value of friendship and not trying to make sense of the outcome.

Durante el desarrollo vemos a Padraic buscando entender el por qué su amigo Colm que consideraba de confianza ya no desea volverle a hablar en su vida con la única excusa de que ahora le parece aburrido y le hace perder su tiempo; para Padraic no es suficiente argumento y en varias ocasiones intenta convencer a Colm que deje sus boberías y sigan compartiendo sus tardes como siempre lo hicieron. Todos en el pueblo, que resulta ser una pequeña isla de Irlanda, creen que las acciones de Padraic por solventar la situación son sensatas y a mi parecer también, es lo que yo haría si uno de mis amigos me deja de hablar. Sin embargo las respuestas de Colm siguen siendo negativas hasta llegar al extremo de amenazar con mutilarse sus propios dedos si Padraic le vuelve a dirigir la palabra.
During the development we see Padraic trying to understand why his friend Colm who he considered trustworthy no longer wants to talk to him again in his life with the only excuse that now he finds it boring and wastes his time; for Padraic it is not enough argument and on several occasions he tries to convince Colm to stop his nonsense and continue sharing their evenings as they always did. Everyone in the village, which happens to be a small island in Ireland, believes that Padraic's actions to solve the situation are sensible and in my opinion, it's what I would do if one of my friends stops talking to me. However, Colm's responses continue to be negative to the point of threatening to mutilate his own fingers if Padraic ever speaks to him again.
Sin antes la película me parecía sencilla, en este punto todo comenzó a parecerme extraño, irregular, porque ¿quién en su sano juicio atenta contra sí mismo sólo porque alguien no quiere dejar de ser su amigo? Y si alguien te rechaza y te humilla en público ¿Por qué seguir insistiendo en una relación que ya no da para más?
If before the film seemed simple to me, at this point everything began to seem strange, irregular, because who in his right mind attacks himself just because someone does not want to stop being his friend? And if someone rejects you and humiliates you in public, why continue to insist on a relationship that no longer works?

Lo que siguió después fue lo que me perturbó más, Padrick le volvió a hablar a Colm y este sin dudarlo se cortó un dedo de su mano izquierda. Y como si no fuera suficiente Padraic le habló una vez más en un intento desesperado de entender su actitud tan atroz por alejarlo de su vida, pero Colm negado a reparar la relación se cortó todos los dedos de la mano para después lanzarlos en la puerta de la casa de Padraic.
What followed next was what disturbed me the most, Padrick spoke to Colm again and Colm without hesitation cut a finger off his left hand. And as if that wasn't enough Padraic spoke to him once again in a desperate attempt to understand his atrocious attitude to keep him out of his life, but Colm refused to repair the relationship and cut off all the fingers on his hand and then threw them at the door of Padraic's house.

Yo ya estaba desconcertada, a demás de lo extraño de otros escenarios que no me encajaban del todo, como una anciana con apariencia de bruja apareciendo en lugares inesperados, y también advirtiendo sobre la muerte de dos personas en la isla, deseando a demás que fueran Padraic y su hermana Siobhan, quién a su vez esta se marchaba de la isla por un nuevo trabajo dejando en completa soledad a Padraic, y un niño tonto que se inmiscuía en sus vidas durante toda la película, siendo bastante molestoso.
I was already puzzled, besides the strangeness of other scenarios that didn't quite fit me, like an old witch-like woman appearing in unexpected places, and also warning about the death of two people on the island, wishing they were Padraic and his sister Siobhan, who in turn was leaving the island for a new job leaving Padraic in complete solitude, and a silly boy who was meddling in their lives during the whole movie, being quite annoying.

Yo ya no sabía qué pensar, sin embargo, si antes no había una razón de peso para que se rompiera la relación entre este par de amigos, ahora para Padraic la muerte de su mini burrito a causa de ingerir los dedos muertos de Colm, y a quien amaba como una mascota, era razón suficiente para odiarlo por completo y tal vez por por primera vez considerar ya dejarlo en paz. I didn't know what to think, however, if before there was no reason to break the relationship between this pair of friends, now for Padraic the death of his mini donkey because of ingesting Colm's dead fingers, whom he loved as a pet, was reason enough to hate him completely and maybe for the first time to consider leaving him alone. But no, nothing stayed there, now Padraic is the one who takes drastic actions looking for revenge, it was then when he decided to burn her house while he was inside and steal her dog, but of course, without warning her the day and the exact date when he would do it.

Sinceramente llegué a pensar que Padraic y Colm tenían un amorío y por eso actuaban de esa manera tan absurda, por un momento me quedé con esa respuesta pero luego pensé mejor y era tonto creerlo cuando nunca dieron indicios de que así fuera, a demás, no podía ser tan sencillo.
I honestly thought that Padraic and Colm were having an affair and that's why they were acting in such an absurd way, for a moment I was stuck with that answer but then I thought better of it and it was silly to believe it when they never gave any indication that it was so, besides, it couldn't be that simple.
Es aquí donde viene mi teoría, que por supuesto tenía que ser más loca que la película. A mí parecer los personajes principales representan cualidades negativas, que como seres humanos en algún momento de nuestras vidas pudimos haber llevado en nuestra personalidad. Podemos ver el arraigado orgullo de Colm al preferir cortarse los dedos antes de aceptar una solución y la poca autoestima e insistencia de Padraic al persistir en salvar su amistad.
This is where my theory comes in, which of course had to be crazier than the movie. It seems to me that the main characters represent negative qualities, which as human beings at some point in our lives we may have carried in our personality. We can see Colm's ingrained pride in preferring to cut off his fingers rather than accept a solution and Padraic's low self-esteem and insistence in persisting to save his friendship.
Pero aun así, cuando esta teoría me parecía bastante aceptable, no era suficiente, así que me propuse a investigar. Generalmente no suelo leer sinopsis o reseñas de películas antes ni mucho menos después de verlas, pero está vez tuve que buscar un poco sobre ella al terminarla para intentar entender el por qué de lo abruptamente irracional de la historia. Es entonces que explota mi cabeza.
But even so, when this theory seemed quite acceptable to me, it wasn't enough, so I set out to investigate. I don't usually read synopses or reviews of movies before, let alone after watching them, but this time I had to look up a bit about it after I finished it to try to understand why the story was so abruptly irrational. That's when my head explodes.

The film is an analogy of the Irish Civil War of 1922-1923, a darkly humorous tragicomedy about the reasons and consequences of Ireland's war for independence from Great Britain, which also ended up dividing the island into two parts, Northern Ireland, which remained ruled by Great Britain, and Southern Ireland, which managed to form an independent republic.
¡Ahora todo cobra sentido! Padraic, un tipo básico, conformista y tradicional representaba esa parte de la sociedad que estaba arraigada a las leyes y política impartida por Gran Bretaña y Colm al ser un tipo creativo, con ganas de dejar una huella en el mundo se aleja de Padraic para no perder más el tiempo, representa a la población radical, firme en sus decisiones por la lucha de la independencia.
Now it all makes sense! Padraic, a basic, conformist and traditional guy represented that part of the society that was rooted to the laws and politics imparted by Great Britain and Colm, being a creative guy, wanting to leave a mark in the world, moves away from Padraic to not waste any more time, he represents the radical population, firm in their decisions for the fight for independence.

Los espíritus de la Isla es una magnífica sátira en la que sus personajes, desde los protagonistas hasta los personajes secundarios y los elementos de escenografías hacen alusión a lo trágico y desconcertante que puede ser cualquier guerra civil. Una pelicula que sin duda volvería ver.
The Banshees of Inisherin is a magnificent satire in which its characters, from the protagonists to the secondary characters and the scenography elements allude to how tragic and disconcerting any civil war can be. A movie I would definitely watch again.

Gran pelicula. La vi el año pasado antes de los Oscars y totalmente recomendable. Lo importante en una peli no es la premisa (que en este caso podria parecer la mas corriente del mundo), sino su desarrollo. Y Colin Farrel esta exquisito en esta pelicula.
