Will he manage to compete in a race? What obstacles will he have to overcome to fulfill his dream?
Personal opinion
The way I came across this movie was basically when my dad bought us DVDs. Sometimes they had buy-one-get-one deals, so on that occasion, there weren't many options, or most of them had already been seen. We chose this one because it seemed like something to watch. I ended up really loving it because a zebra interested in horse racing? That's not something you see every day, is it? Anyway, that unusual premise turned out to be entertaining, plus the characters were so charismatic. The dynamic between the farm and the racetrack works wonderfully, especially with Tucker the pony and Buzz and Ruffles the flies, who provide some memorable comedic moments.
Of course, we can't forget Channing and Nolan; they're the kind of characters who give the film a real emotional anchor: the loss of a mother and the father's fear that his daughter will suffer the same fate add dramatic weight amidst all the laughter from talking animals. Despite being entertaining, it does have its flaws, such as the typical ending one might expect in these stories, which hasn't aged particularly well. The mix of real animals with digitally animated mouths also didn't always work; at times it looks quite artificial.
Stripes teaches us that you don't need to fit into the mold that society (or the stuffy upper-class types) has designed to be successful; it tells us to embrace what makes us different and use it as our greatest strength. At the same time, the story leaves us with a beautiful lesson about healing grief as a family and learning to let go of fear so that the people we love can pursue their own passions.
Positive points…
- Great voice cast and humor: Hilarious supporting characters (like Tucker the pony or the flies) keep the film's pace light.

La semana pasada les estuve recomendado una película animada donde, la canción principal es cantada por Hayden Panettiere, la reciente actriz y querida actriz que partió de este mundo; en esta oportunidad, les traigo una película protagonizada por ella, una que me gustó mucho y si nunca la vieron, es el momento de hacerlo.

Conocida en Hispanoamérica como Rayas, una cebra veloz, fue estrenada para el año 2005 dentro del género infantil y bajo la dirección Frederick Du Chau y protagonizada por Bruce Greenwood, Michael Clarke Duncan, Hayden Panettiere, Dustin Hoffman, entre otros.
¿De qué va la trama?…
La historia comienza cuando, una tormenta nocturna deja atrás a un pequeño recién nacido muy inusual, quien es rescatado por un antiguo entrenador de carreras, Nolan Walsh y su hija Channing, quienes viven el duelo de perder a su esposa y madre. Este recién nacido es una cebra, quien la joven Channind adopta y le da el nombre de Rayas (Stripes); este pequeño crece creyendo firmemente que pertenece al deslumbrante mundo de los caballos pura sangre, ya que, a lado, su la finca vecina, crían caballos de carreras.
Ignorando que sus llamativas rayas negras y blancas lo hacen completamente diferente a los demás, este intrépido e ingenuo protagonista se obsesiona con una sola idea: convertirse en el animal más veloz de la pista y competir en la carrera más deslumbrante del país. Sin embargo, el camino hacia la meta no es sencillo, pues, para cumplir su sueño, deberá desafiar la arrogancia de los estirados caballos de clase alta, vencer los miedos de la familia humana que lo acogió y ganarse el respeto de todos a base de puro corazón y coraje ¿Será que si logrará competir en una carrera? ¿Qué obstáculos deberá superar para cumplir su sueño?
Opinión personal
La forma que di con esta película pues, básicamente cuando mi papá nos compraba las películas en DVD, había ocasiones en que tenían promos de llévate dos, por tanto, y en esa oportunidad no se encontraban muchas opciones o la mayoría ya fueron vistas, así que escogimos esa, por tener algo que ver; realmente me terminó encantando pues ¿una cebra que le interesara correr carreras de caballo? No es algo tan común o ¿sí?. En fin, esa cuestión chocante resultó entretenida, aunado que, el carisma de sus personajes ya que, la dinámica entre la granja y la pista funciona de maravilla, sobre todo, el pony Tucker y las moscas Buzz y Ruffles aportan momentos cómicos memorables.
Claro, no podemos olvidarnos de Channing y Nolan, son ese estilo de personaje que le dan un ancla emocional real a la película: la pérdida materna y el miedo del padre a que su hija sufra el mismo destino aportan peso dramático entre tantas risas de animales parlando. A pesar de ser entretenida, pues si tiene sus fallas, como el típico final que podría esperarse en estas historias y que no envejeció del todo bien, la mezcla de animales reales con animación digital en las bocas no siempre envejeció bien; en algunos momentos se nota bastante artificial.
Rayas nos enseña que no necesitas encajar en el molde que la sociedad (o los estirados caballos de clase alta) ha diseñado para tener éxito; nos habla de abrazar lo que nos hace diferentes y usarlo como nuestra mayor fuerza. Paralelamente, la historia nos deja una lección hermosa sobre sanar el duelo en familia y aprender a soltar el miedo para dejar que las personas que amamos persigan su propia pasión.
Puntos positivos…
- Gran elenco vocal y humor: Personajes secundarios hilarantes (como el pony Tucker o las moscas) que mantienen un ritmo divertido.
- Personajes memorables: Realmente es una película que no se olvida fácilmente, pues el tema de una cebra queriendo competir en carreras de caballo, no es algo común.
- Carga emocional humana: La sub-trama del duelo familiar entre padre e hija le da un corazón genuino y maduro a la historia.

No recuerdo haber visto esta película aunque si recuerdo cuando la promocionaban en aquella época, también me gusta que analices punto por punto repasando aspectos positivos y negativos. Yo creo que los clichés estaban bien para su época, a finales de los 90 y principios de los 2000 los personajes eran muy estereotipados, las tramas eran predecibles y los clichés estaban a la orden del día.
