So, here are my thoughts on the film.

Fun fact: Matthew Lillard not only played the role but also went on to voice the character in the *Scooby* animated series after the movies—he was truly born to play that part. Furthermore, the chemistry among the cast was excellent; so much so, in fact, that Freddie and Sarah ended up getting married and starting a family.

Forced to smooth over their differences while navigating eerie attractions, haunted mansions, and beaches teeming with suspects, they quickly discover that this time they are not facing ordinary men in rubber masks. Something truly ancient and dark lurks in the island's shadows, patiently stalking each team member and plotting a diabolical ritual that threatens to change the world forever. Will they manage to put aside their old grudges to save the souls of the youth, or will they discover—too late—that the final trap was designed specifically to tear them apart and destroy them from within?
Personal opinion
Well, when I found out this movie was intended to be a parody of the teen films of that era—featuring quite a bit of adult content—I didn't really see it that way; I found it incredibly entertaining and funny, and the characters truly felt like they had come to life, thanks to their resemblance to the originals and their chemistry. Ultimately, I have to say that while the plot is deliberately exaggerated, it deserves immense credit for daring to break the repetitive formula of the animated series. Unlike the show—where the culprit was almost always just a person in a costume—this movie introduced magic, demons, cults, and identity crises, giving it much more personality.
As I mentioned earlier, the actors did a fantastic job recreating their animated counterparts. Matthew did a brilliant job bringing Shaggy to life—capturing the voice, the slouching posture, and the character's mannerisms—and achieved something nearly impossible: making a cartoon character feel organic in live-action. Linda struck a great balance between the resentful intellectual and the group's true brilliant mind, adding layers to a character who was previously quite one-dimensional. As for Scooby—while I liked him back then, I feel the CGI hasn't aged very well; consequently, the decision to use a more realistic-looking version in the prequel was a very smart move.
Although critics dismissed it as superficial and nonsensical, it was a resounding box-office success—and for good reason; it possessed a distinctive quality that set it apart from other films of the era. It even poked fun at its animated counterpart—in a way that didn't end up being off-putting, however. It was successful enough to spawn a sequel, which I’ll discuss next week; I feel it deserves a dedicated post of its own.
Positive points…

Hoy les vengo a recordar un clásico de los 2000, con un casting perfecto y, a pesar de ser escrita para un público juvenil y adulto, pues la audiencia infantil también tenía grandes expectativas, por lo que terminaron recortando escena para ser acta para todos en general. En fin, tras el anuncio de una precuela, que debo decir, me encanto el perrito, me recordé de este filme y quería hablar de ello, por si se habían olvidado del mismo, así que, aquí les dejo mis opiniones de la misma.

Fue estrenada para el año 2002, bajo la dirección de Raja Gosnell; sus personajes están basados en la serie animada de Scooby-Doo creados por Hanna-Barbera Productions. Conto con las participaciones de Freddie Prinze, Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, Linda Cardellini, Rowan Atkinson, entre otros.

Forzados a limar asperezas mientras recorren atracciones sombrías, mansiones embrujadas y playas llenas de sospechosos, van descubriendo rápidamente que esta vez no se enfrentan a hombres comunes disfrazados con máscaras de goma. Algo verdaderamente ancestral y oscuro se oculta en las sombras de la isla, acechando pacientemente a cada miembro del equipo y tramando un ritual diabólico que amenaza con cambiar el mundo para siempre. ¿Lograrán dejar atrás sus viejos rencores para salvar el alma de la juventud, o descubrirán demasiado tarde que la trampa final estaba diseñada específicamente para separarlos y destruirlos desde adentro?
Opinión personal
Bueno, cuando me enteré que esta película quería ser una parodia de las películas juveniles de la época, con bastante contenido adulto, realmente nunca lo vi así, pues se me hizo super entretenida, graciosa y realmente sentía que habían cobrado vida sus personajes, por el parecido y la química que tenían. En fin, debo decir que la trama es deliberadamente exagerada, pero tiene un mérito enorme: se atrevió a romper la fórmula repetitiva del dibujo animado, aquí no ocurría como casi siempre en el dibujo animado que era una persona disfrazada, no, metieron magia demonios, sectas y crisis de identidad, por lo que la dota con mas personalidad.
Como dije arriba, realmente los actores hicieron un gran trabajo en recrear a los del dibujo animado, Matthew hizo un trabajo brillante, pues dio vida total a Shaggy, la forma la voz, la postura encorvada y los manierismos del personaje que logró algo casi imposible: hacer que un personaje de caricatura se sintiera orgánico en carne y hueso. Linda logró un gran equilibrio entre la chica intelectual resentida y la verdadera mente brillante del grupo, dándole capas a un personaje que antes era bastante plano; bueno, con Scoody aunque me gustaba en su momento, siento que el CGI no envejeció tan bien, por lo que, al recurrir en la precuela con una personificación mas real, siento que ha sido bastante acertado.
A pesar de que, la critica la trato como superficial y sin sentido, fue un rotundo éxito en taquilla y no es por más, tenía algo distintivo a la demás de la época, además de burlas de su versión animada, pero que, al final, no te terminan disgustando. Tanto así que hubo una segunda entrega, de cual hablaré la otra semana, siento que necesita su propio argumento.
Puntos positivos…
- Casting perfecto: La química del elenco y la interpretación de Matthew Lillard como Shaggy fueron sobresalientes.
- Humor autorreferencial: Se burla hábilmente de los clichés y estereotipos de la franquicia animada.
