Monetized content creation is probably one of the most loved ways of making an income these days, especially among millennials, some of them doing really really good in that regard, like for example Marquees Brownlee, who used to be one of my favorite youtubers when I was an avid tech videos consumer a few years ago.
According to some data on the internet it seems that he's generating an income stream of about 1 million dollars per year with its over 12 million subscribers YouTube channel. Not many youtubers are proud of such yearly earnings, but for me this guy is a pure example of passion towards content creation and doing that with style.
In my case, although not being able yet to earn 1 million dollars per year, content creation came out of nowhere. I haven't planned this thing to happen, never thought of myself becoming a blogger and have never at least imagined myself as a youtuber... I do remember that at some point in 2017 when I was still in Norway, I told my sister over a phone call that I plan on searching some income streams involving quite a lot of internet use when I get back to Romania.
I was aware since then that my time spent online needed to be rewarded somehow and on February 2018 I found about Steemit. It was the perfect solution for my unconscious wish. I always liked to write, mostly in Romanian tbh, but needed to adapt that to English as well, for a few years now, and Steemit not only offered me the chance to put this calling into action, but also allowed me to earn some crypto on the way.
I have not been a content creator prior to my Steem experience, and although I'm cross posting my almost daily content now to different other platforms, I'm about 90% of the time active on the Hive blockchain. I've created myself, or lets say surrounded myself by a nice community here, and that keeps me engaged and pushing forward. As I mentioned quite a few times on this blog, I hope to one day be able to entirely live off of this passion for content creating.
What's your story in this regard by the way? How did you started as content creator, on what platform, or in what way, and when you had your first blog, vlog, or whatever that got monetized?
Thanks for attention,
Adrian

Interesting question @acesontop!
I first became a monetized content creator in 1999, on a site named epinions which was — to the best of my knowledge — the first venue online to try a micropayments strategy to reward its content creators for their efforts... in this case, product reviews. This may sound crazy by today's standards, but we were paid THIRTY CENTS per page view! In case that sounds crazy, keep in mind that getting someone to look at a web page in 1999 took a good bit of effort, and just getting 20 people to read your stuff was a major victory!
Subsequently, I have been part of a little more than 50 sites that rewarded creators for content... pretty much all of them based on the ad revenue model supplemented with revenue from affiliate links via amazon, eBay and others.
Many you are unlikely to ever have heard of, a few like Squidoo and HubPages were huge well funded operations that both cracked the top-100 worldwide rankings on Alexa.
Blockchain/crypto based venues are showing themselves to have considerably more staying power, primarily because there is no "company" to eventually run out of money to pay contributors. Pretty much ALL venues I've been part of have failed (HubPages is still limping along, a shadow of its former self) primarily at the hands of thousands of people trying to scam/milk the system of every cent they could... without really contributing anything. That money-for-nothing greed has not changed...

Thanks for sharing your story.

My journey all started from Steem as well, till now I'm still here doing this contenting thing...

I see. Thanks for taking the time to share your experience.

Same as you, I decided my time on the internet should be monetized. Since then, I stopped using Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, and other at all.
Posted Using LeoFinance Beta
I still use twitter. Not as much as Leofinance though.

It is relevant to feel how nice it is to share content. Sometimes we tend to believe that it is only about monetisation, but the truth is that a user stands out more when they let their ideas flow for the pleasure of sharing. Or at least, that user profile is the one I like to follow, just as I like to value this content.

Well, I started creating content in 2014 on WordPress. My content was mostly poetry and short stories. Then I discovered steem in 2018 then started to make the shift away from creative writing to more financial type of writing--crypto-related. It has been that way since. Most of my income has come from writing content online and I enjoy it. It gives me the freedom I seek.

Great. Pretty much what I'm chasing.

My first time getting monetized was Steemit. It was only a couple of cents, basically nothing, but it got me hooked into alternative platforms. I haven't gone back to the more "mainstream" sites since.

We all starte from a couple of cents 😁

I started writing in 2013 with Bubblews, and other websites. I stopped for a while, and in 2017, I went back to writing through Steemit.

Looks like you're a bit of a veteran.

I began on Steem in June 2017. Before this, I had no experience in the world of blogging and to be honest, I really didn't know what I could bring to the community. I had been following Bitcoin and other cryptos since soon after Satoshi got the ball rolling but it was only when I found Steem through a friend that I realised that I could be involved in my own way. 'Proof of Brain' was the selling point and since I had no money but a small one of those I thought I would start using it to get involved in this exciting world and earn my way to a Lada, sorry Lambo.
'Write about what you know' was my English teachers advice when I was in school and with a long career in Ephemeral arts, I thought I would use this as a way to document my work which at that point was just a collection of photos and some memories in my head.
In those days of Steem newcomers were very welcome and as I posted my first content I was very happy that I began receiving some nice upvotes. They really encouraged me to keep going and make this a part of my life.
Luckily there were some other Steem remember in Dublin and we met up once a month for chats and Guinness.
I no way was it plain sailing from there. There have been many ups and downs but thankfully there has always been enough output for my input to keep me keen and stick with it.
I am still a long way from riches but I have earned a much more important thing and that is to feel part of a stong community with a vision of changing the world and it has also opened up a whole other creative outlet for me. My blog has become a very important part of what makes me me.
@ammonite is my main account. @ammonite.leo is my Lada fund

Great post!
I can't consider myself a monetized content creator yet but it's definitely in my plans.
I tried to start on Steemit back in 2018 but on that occasion, I didn't quite understand how the platform worked and didn't put enough energy to try and figure it out so I just put it aside.
I thought about trying Medium but for some reason - and I'm not really sure why - it just wasn't for me.
Recently I decided to give Steem another chance but in that process, I found out about Hive/Leo and really fell in love with the community and the potential that it presents, so now I'm starting my journey as a part-time content creator.
Actually, my first goal is to be able to generate a line of income that's more or less the same I make with my "day job" just in case I decide to go all in the content creator road. When I get to this point, I'll see how it goes from there!

¿Cuando? Nunca.
I just decide to say out my thought on this and here I am with my entry.
