Part 2/7:
Gerber's book begins with the story of Sarah, an aspiring pie baker who is seduced by the romance of her craft. After years in a corporate job that she loathed, Sarah listens to advice from her friends and embarks on opening her own bakery. Although she starts off excited, it doesn’t take long for her to realize that operating a business requires her to be more than just a technician who loves baking. The grind of administrative tasks, marketing, customer service, and financial management quickly eclipses the joy she initially found in baking.
