Part 7/10:
The Prime Ministership and Autocratic Governance
In 2014, Vucic was appointed Prime Minister following SNS's electoral success. His government quickly initiated policies that concentrated power and effectively stifled dissent. Amidst claims of electoral manipulation, Vucic leveraged his media control to craft a favorable public image, presenting himself as a tireless worker for the Serbian people, while critics questioned his authoritarian tendencies.
As Prime Minister, Vucic methodically re-established control over the media landscape, ensuring loyalty from major media organizations through regulatory and financial means. These actions led to a suppression of independent journalism, civil liberties, and the fostering of a cult of personality surrounding his leadership.
