Part 2/7:

Born in 1957 in the Tambo commune of Rwanda, Kagame was raised in a Tutsi family under the protective shadow of notable connections, including ties to the Rwandan royal family. However, the socio-political landscape darkened when ethnic tensions erupted during Rwanda's transition to independence in 1961. Amidst the violent Hutu Revolution, Kagame's family fled to Uganda, embarking on a thirty-year journey of displacement.

Settling in refugee camps across Uganda, the conditions for Rwandans were grim. Despite meager resources, Kagame's family and fellow refugees learned to integrate into Ugandan society, with many children, himself included, embracing the local culture and language. Yet, the shadow of their status as refugees loomed over them, often leading to discrimination and hardship.
