Kagame's academic journey, though interrupted by personal tragedies—including the loss of his father—laid a crucial foundation for his future. Showing an early aptitude for learning, he faced systemic barriers due to his refugee status. Nevertheless, financial assistance allowed him to pursue secondary education, marking the start of his yearning to contribute to the political landscape of Rwanda.
In the 1970s, a growing awareness of his homeland fueled Kagame’s visits to Rwanda, during which he gained insights into the country’s economic and political challenges. This initiated his desire to engage actively in shaping Rwanda's future.
