In contemporary society, there is a prevalent tendency to shield ourselves from the lessons of history. Anything predating World War II seems almost irrelevant to many of us today. Consequently, our social vocabulary is starkly limited, making it challenging to comprehend the issues we currently face and those we foresee in the future. This modern detachment leads to a dangerous complacency, particularly as we are ruled by a social class fixated on the notion of "progress." They uphold progress as an unquestionable belief, blinding them to historical cycles of rise and fall that societies have historically experienced.
