Part 3/9:
The Birth of Computers: BARK and BESK
The era of Swedish computing officially began with the development of the BARK (Binary Arithmetic Automatic Relay Calculator), which was completed in 1950. Fitted with 5,000 electromechanical relays, BARK marked Sweden as one of the first nations in Europe to create its own computer. Despite its historical significance, programming BARK proved cumbersome with its punchboard method, leading to its dismantling in 1955.
