In 1974, Datasaab acquired Facit's computer business but continued generating losses, leading to decreased production operations and eventual cessation of various product lines. A significant joint venture with Unisys to continue development of mainframes ultimately did not result in the hoped-for success.
By 1976, Datasaab was merged with another telecommunications entity, yet it continued to struggle with profitability. The company faced a severe decline in market position, culminating in a disastrous loss of a major banking contract in 1979 and contributing to its acquisition by Ericsson in 1981.
