Despite this, the United States, for reasons that remain somewhat unclear, chose to align itself with nations like Russia, North Korea, and Belarus, effectively voting against the very principles it has historically championed. While 93 countries supported the resolution, which included important allies from the Asia-Pacific region and Europe, the U.S. stood alone with its no vote, a move seen by many as detrimental to American interests abroad.
