Part 4/8:
The conflict in Ukraine has exacerbated tensions between Hungary and the EU further. Orbán has resisted sending military aid to Ukraine, resisted sanctions on Russia, and has maintained a close relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin. This stance has drawn ire from more liberal European leaders who have occasionally called for Hungary's expulsion from the EU. Historically, such calls have been dismissed due to a lack of legal avenues to expel a member state and the fact that Hungary's sanctions could serve Orbán's political interests.
