Part 3/5:
Ryanair contends that Aena has persistently sought to increase fees each year, especially at smaller regional airports still in recovery from the pandemic's impact. In January, the Spanish government sanctioned a 4.09% fee increase for airlines, a move intended to address inflation and rising energy costs.
Aena's Defense
Responding to Ryanair's criticism, Aena defended itself by stating that its average fee of €10.35 per passenger is among the lowest in Europe. Furthermore, Aena urged Ryanair to "calm down" and abandon its aggressive tactics, accusing the airline of using misleading rhetoric to pressure public institutions. The operator contends that Ryanair's methods can be interpreted as an attempt to coerce Aena into lowering its fees.
