The dawn of the electric vehicle (EV) era can be traced back to the early 2000s as various startups emerged post the mock funeral for the General Motors EV1. This event galvanized a movement; static adherence to the model of internal combustion engines amid developing environmental awareness opened the door for visionary thinkers. Among them were Martin Eberhard and Marc Tarpenning, who founded Tesla Motors in 2003 to create a stylish electric sports car, markedly different from the clunky EVs of the time.
