In Somalia, regional militias have intensified operations against the Islamic State, managing to reclaim territory from this jihadist group. Puntland's forces, supported by U.S. airstrikes, have made significant strides against the Islamic State in Somalia (ISS). However, their defeat does not signify the defeat of extremism as the broader issue of governance and the lack of a central authority in Somalia remains.
