One of the first hurdles would be identifying a suitable volcano. There are roughly 1,500 active volcanoes around the globe, many hidden away in remote locations, far removed from urban centers where most waste production occurs. This geographic limitation presents a logistical nightmare when attempting to transport tons of garbage to these volcanic sites.
Finding the Right Type of Volcano
Assuming we could tackle the logistics of transportation, we would need to find a specific type of volcano suitable for waste disposal—namely a shield volcano. Characterized by their broad, gentle slopes and iconic lava lakes, these volcanoes are, however, a rarity. Imagine having to find the perfect location for this grand waste disposal plan and, even then, the mission could still prove perilous.
