Fast forward to the Arab Spring of 2011. Protests erupted in Libya against Gaddafi's tyrannical rule, prompting the international community to act. While the UN approved a no-fly zone under Resolution 1973 to protect civilians, NATO's involvement quickly transitioned from humanitarian assistance to active regime change. Despite President Obama's insistence that the aim was not to remove Gaddafi, the collapsing regime was but a consequence of NATO's airstrikes that decimated Gaddafi's military.
